Old 611 chugging down that old train line we never forget that train and its sweet whistle gone lost to history on those tracks and off of the pelica boards banned lost to history but a long time later here in 2023 IT IS BACK
hello steamers folks.i was raised here and heard about mr link when i ws little.i am so proud to been raised in this area but live in midwest now.the man from the mountains misses those mountains every day.
I'm pretty sure I met the woman playing in the background. I'm from Marion (great grandfather had a big part in the Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat) and grew up Lutheran, but my confirmation was held at Grace.
I know I'm being nitpicky but what would have made it perfect is if you stood in the exact same spot and in the same position that Winston stood in to take the picture of the train passing the depot
Did 611 spend the night at Rural Retreat? Based on the video it looks like she arrived late in the evening and the later footage appears to be early morning before transitioning back to a night shot.
This trip the 611 started out of Bristol and headed to Roanoke, VA. The train headed during the night back to Bristol, through Rural Retreat. There is footage from trips Manassas to Front Royal, and Roanoke to Pulaski. During the years 1992-93, I virtually went out and videoed every trip in Virginia. So I was able to fill in lots of needed footage in this presentation. I certainly thank you for watching this video!

Very much enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
That last whistle at the end brought a tear to my eye. Like the Goliaths last breath...

Gonna watch and listen to this when I return home from Christmas Eve church service every year from now on starting last year with Christmas Eve 2016.
I was on that train in '94
Ty excellent film
The 611 has been restored and makes excursions. Search J 611 and you can get a schedule- and perhaps take a ride.
Simply amazing. Excellent work. Thanks for doing your part to preserve history!
Man, you hit a grand slam with this one...right out of the park. Superb!
Does anyone know if the video of the Southern Crescent pulling into Alexandria is on UA-cam?
This is a fantastic piece of history! Beautifully edited.

And now in 2021, we tolerate dangerous criminals to be set free on our streets so they can run us down at our Christmas parades.
