There are so many Dan songs that fit here, it's ridiculous. Speaking of which, I almost don't like it when Justin does Steely Dan songs, because I know I'm going to have to go down the rabbit hole and spend hours listening to their songs.
My favorite Dan track. The melody and syncopation of the horn section is just soo badass. I just sing: da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da anytime life requires it. Which is a lot honestly. Thanks to the Dan.
A great track, and as already stated, smooth as silk. And this LP, as i've said before, my all time fave 'Dan' album. Bit of a slow burner this one JP. You started it about 4yrs ago, and we're not even half way through 🙂 But as the man said, Good things come to he who waits'. And FYI our american cousins, it wasn't Abe Lincoln, it was an English guy who coined it some 300 yrs prior. Who said music review channels can't be educational, haha.
I also had some technical difficulties but luckily they untangled themselves with my help. Nuff said, Steely Dan got me calmed down and grooving, just what I needed, and so many others. Be well everyone.
What an intelligent review! I really enjoyed this video. This is one of my favorite songs. I remember hearing it as a teen and still love it at 62 years old. Well done!
Great deep cut pull. There are reactors who have done quite a few SD reactions and this one is rarely given its due. Leave to you Justin to do it justice? Loving those horns!!
They assemble a diverse collection of musicians and craft their vision of what is possible beyond most people's wildest dreams. Edgar Winter Group to Poco......Toto, before they were......How the heck did they pull Timothy B. Schmit into the mix so brilliantly?
This is based on Plato's Allegory of the Cave. Very deep song. Listen to words. Are you still sitting in the cave and looking at images? Or have you walked out yet?
'Ole Audiophile to JP: Now you got me nervous about your 2nd copywrite infringement notification. There are some pretty fierce protectors of Steely Dan material, especially when it eventually involves the families of deceased artists. I don't know anything because I'm just the cook but a guy can just worry, can't he? I'm not sure picking the more obscure tracks will work but I guess it's worth a try. I hope you got your lawyer hat on this early in the morning pal. Concerned in Northeastern Ohio cares...
As my wife streams Bates Motel, she pops out of her room & mentions Norman's mother just stated she's born & raised in Akron, Ohio. Small world getting suddenly smaller. The classic motion picture featuring Jimmy Stewart titled 'Harvey' has a lot to say about my home town as well/thanx.
Good Sunday morning, that hamster you have needs more discipline! Let's hope he's not Lemmiwinks, that cave is long and slimy! Ha ha. What do you get with great writing, arranging, and the best session players in the L.A. area? Steely Dan of course. Peace & Love.
Great song. But I got a little bit distracted wondering what a _demeure_ is. (My guess is it sounds like "de myrrh" but that didn't help as much as something called Reverso). "Waking up to the sound of Steely Dan at the start of the day is like letting the sunshine into your home." That's my rough translation of the French comment to your reaction (which I suppose you've already copied and pasted to Google Translate, and can correct already.) And yes, that's pretty spot on. (My neighbours would kill me if I woke up to the sound of anything, because I tend to wake up earlier than they do, so in my case it would seque into something involving my blood smeared all over the floor where the body was dragged. I exaggerate, but being given hard looks by people doesn't make for much of a story.) Hmm ... I know someone who has just moved to a rural area where there's no piped water, and the toilet is a long drop, who's happy she's there, now, because at last she can rest at night because there's no crime there. But that story gets a bit too close to being literal to fit nicely either. (The place she moved from is basically ruled by gangsters. Cops are too scared to go in there. Lay a complaint and the only part of the job they do is the paperwork.) Hmm ... ja, and if those same gangsters tried their tricks in the place she's now in, the chief's men would deal with them, and the cops would be too scared to get involved afterwards. Some kinds of violence are better than others if you don't have the option of proper peace. Damn, that went far away from letting in the sunshine, didn't it? Hang on, I think I can make amends. A guitarist I follow at times is promoting the album of his favourite students, and their music fits the "let the sunshine in" quite beautifully, if you weren't now in the mood for more disintegration and chaos. ua-cam.com/video/zVo9UdkUsaM/v-deo.html *Into the Blue*
One of my favorite SD songs, always gets overlooked!
Yeah Ricky, I agree. It's brilliant. "For you and me we understood".

Me too! One of the very best…….those horns in the outro…….!
First one I heard. Life was never the same after that.
Steely Dan just gets better and better. Their lyrics are so deep and tell such sophisticated stories. Their groove is infectious as well.
Clever lyrics and a beautiful melody accompanying great musicianship define this song. A very underrated track and one of my favourites amongst many.

This is a great Steely Dan song off one of their best albums, The Royal Scam. The group had a great funk influence on this album.
Not gonna lie, this is my absolute favourite Steely Dan track. So damn smooth.
You can't go wrong with Steely Dan. All of their albums are great. Countdown to Ecstasy, Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied. They're all amazing.
Another brilliant of about thirty more by this incredible duo and all those studio musicians!
Very underrated track from this album. The harmonic changes and arrangement are superb.
I also had some technical difficulties but luckily they untangled themselves with my help. Nuff said, Steely Dan got me calmed down and grooving, just what I needed, and so many others. Be well everyone.
My second fave track after ''Don't take me alive'' Magnificent.
What an intelligent review! I really enjoyed this video. This is one of my favorite songs. I remember hearing it as a teen and still love it at 62 years old. Well done!
Used this track to test the speakers back in the day
Hey Justin, I haven't been here in a while, good to see you again, glad you're still around!
I never get tired of hearing this one. In my personal Top 5 Steely Dan songs.
A masterpiece.
Lead Sax player is John Klemmer, one of the great jazz sax players of the 60’s and 70’s.
Écouter du Steely Dan en commençant la journée, c'est comme faire entrer le soleil dans sa demeure :-) Merci
Excellent track! Great reaction with a great drum set break down and an interesting topic.
Steely Dan's first masterpiece (the other being Aja). If you haven't done the rest, you're up for a heavenly discovery.
One of my favorites albums. Great reaction.
Great tune and beautiful chorus

This is honestly one of my favorite SD tracks 😃
A snare drum from the 2oth century...always welcome. Yum.
It's just acidic jazz funk, it's like everything is drowning when the drums, saxophone, piano play, wow
The Whole album is great. Every track.
Bad ass, this tune is. Time to do the whole LP, yes?
Yourtechical reaction expertise has now gone supernova you have an appreciation of the Dan that Fagen and Becker would purr “yep he gets us”
Haha ty Warren!
John Klemmer on lead sax. One of ther great jazz sax players of the generation
Great reaction !
At this point it's kind of incredible that JP hasnt listened to this album yet
When the cave painting light went on….😅
😅
To think I had to figure that out “before there even was an internet!” 🤣
This is based on Plato's Allegory of the Cave. Very deep song. Listen to words. Are you still sitting in the cave and looking at images? Or have you walked out yet?
Great great track.
As with all SD songs, this one has an awesome bass line. And who else would write such layered song about cave drawings?
I want the last horn part to go on for another ten minutes!
Who else writes songs about cave paintings and being the last man on earth? "King of the World"
John Klemmer on Tenor.
smooth
❤The❤Royal❤Scam❤
...waiting on the horns...
How have you NOT finished this album yet?? LOL

If you still don't like Steely Dan After hearing this track then there's nothing I can do to help you! LOL Move on.
every song off Royal Scam plz

Pffft, more jazz lite. Next. 🙃
