Thank you for that history. I'm 70 yrs old and finally got to see them for my first time a couple weeks ago. Had. A. Blast.!
The song is absolutely a masterpiece because it defines the 60's. They possessed the talent & it's sad they were underrated. They had a unique sound because they mainly used an electronic piano. But it was fitting that Rod Argent used an organ for the song. Using their creativity they brought the song to life. If they were part of the British Invasion then they're part of Rock History. They're still performing out there, because they appeared on The Jimmy Fallon Show. Guys "Keep On Rockin" while you all can.
I think The Zombies influenced The Doors' sound with the use of the electric piano. To me it's like, "no Zombies, no Doors."
Odessey and Oracle is somewhere on my top ten album list. Glad you made this video!
Odessey and Oracle is criminally underrated.
I bought a new copy of Oracle and Odessey, in 2011, on the Big Beat label. The songs were remastered. I saw The Zombies in 2013 in Charlottesville Virginia. I met Rod and Colin after the show, spent 10 minutes with them as the stage was being taken apart. They both signed my album. Both very normal and nice people.
The Zombies are legends. They still sound amazing to this day. Loved their most recent studio album too. Still got that hunger :)
Man I never thought you’d actually do a video on the Zombies, love their keyboard sound!
Ooh ooh! I've been wondering about that genius breath riff or clap and mouth percussion. So amazing. Thank you, this was super intereeting.
I "discovered" The Zombies on the first Moody Blues Cruise......they were the talk of the ship. Since then I've seen them a few times each year when they tour in the US until 2020 when all the concerts were cancelled. They're supposed to be back in June 2021 across Canada and a few shows in the US. The Zombies are better than ever and they were also the first band British Invasion band after the Beatles to have a hit with a song written by a member of the band (Rod). Their last album "Still Got that Hunger" is also terrific.
Thanks for the video. I guess the Abbey road connection explains how Alan Parsons found Colin for his own group. I remember his beautiful voice on a number of Parson’s songs.
With their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, it's just great to see video essays like this to really showcase how good they were in their day, and their writing and recording processes. Thank you for this and I hope you'd discuss more songs from many artists in the future.
I just saw the Zombies perform Odessey and Oracle when they opened for Brian Wilson like two weeks ago. It actually sounded really amazing live.
Did you know that after Time of The Season was a hit and there was no band to tour the states for it; some guys in America made a fake band to tour as the zombies.
Well, I was around when they were, and finally got to hear and meet them in 2004 (and '05 and '13). Good luck with your writing, you have good taste.
I just got the Zombie vinyl box set. They have tons of great stuff. Very underrated band.
The Zombies were so underrated.
one of my all time favorites...thank you so much for posting an amazing video, once again:)
Great content in the last few days!! PLEASE KEEP UP!
Congratulations to the Zombies on their induction into the RRHF!
