I am totally supportive of this idea of locking the screen and batteries and everything because if somebody steals your phone, they don’t deserve access to that. I am also very much in support of right to repair but not with stolen goods.
Please, my iPhone 12pro max got stolen some weeks ago but it has activation lock enabled. If the person has disassembled it and used the parts on another device that has iOS 18, will it be locked or only if I had upgraded to iOS 18 before the phone was stolen?
I bought an iPhone a while ago from someone, it was a newer model at the time. When I realized it was useless due to being iCloud locked, I was able to sell it for parts for a bit of money. Sucks for people who get scammed but I’m sure it will do more good than bad
I like the idea of the feature, but it doesn't help stop the phone from getting stolen. If thief's know about it then maybe it will help deter them so maybe that's a plus.
What are your thoughts on getting the new phones and not even being able to utilize some of the features until they come up with the software later on down the road?
Hopefully this only affects iCloud locked phones that were put into lost mode to target thieves but not cause huge wastage of parts in recycling places where people don’t take off their accounts but leave them there
Lol this is the reason I’m never giving up on iPhones. Truly the most secure devices out there; hardware - software synergy at its peak. Hope this comes to other apple devices too!
Please, my iPhone 12pro max got stolen some weeks ago but it has activation lock enabled. If the person has disassembled it and used the parts on another device that has iOS 18, will it be locked or only if I had upgraded to iOS 18 before the phone was stolen?
If it’s an actual third party display (usually shit quality) then you’ll be fine, however if it’s an Apple Original (and you suspect the parts are from an iCloud locked device) then NO IT IS NIT SAFE, however a work around is downgrading via 3u tools if you’ve already updated
I can see this backfiring on so many innocent people. It would be different if you could choose to lock the parts then I’d be all for it. But for someone like myself that does repairs to phones and reuse parts, this can be a huge problem.
@@ThiiPSXboxGamer if the phone isn't stolen and the person who owns the phone has given permission to the person working on the phone there's no issue, the only time there would be a an issue gonna pop up is if the phone is stolen and there's no one to unlock what you need unlocked to do the work
This is stupid. You can literally just skip the calibration and use it with the same old non-genuine notification in settings. Even if you put a stolen battery in it, it’s not like it’s going to brick the entire phone or refuse to charge the battery or some other dumb shit.
How is this a welcome change????It’s to apple’s benefit not the consumer.Changing a battery is $100 at Apple Store so a thief will likely only make 60$ with the battery so THIS DOESNT MAKE SENSE.IT’s Apple employing this tactic to make it harder for self repair.
What are you even talking about? When you sell your phone voluntarily with Apple ID removed, it can be used as a donor. But if it’s stolen, it’s just as good as a paper weight as they neither can’t use it or sell for parts. And this reduces theft. What part of it doesn’t make sense?
To be fair, if they got iPhone money, they can afford repairs from official places. If it helps deter theft then whatever, nobody’s life is worth getting injured or getting killed for a phone that can be replaced..
That only helps Apple. Another reason to force consumers to buy new instead of recycling a used iPhone. Most people will forget to remove deactivation lock prior to selling their used iPhones. So annoying that this is being touted as an anti theft measure. This just makes legit buy and sell transactions more complicated and risky for used iPhone shoppers.
@@trend_netyou will own nothing, you will not be able to save parts from a phone to swap to another phone even if legitimate, just buy the thing and blindly support your corpo overlords, and you will be happy

I agree, this is an excellent move by Apple, the more of a phone that’s left unusable to a thief the better
