I was just there for a brief period, because I liked to explore up the slopes of Mt. Shasta, where there is very strong spirit winds. Also, I like the Native Americans around there, and did a Spirit Quest with a Shaman up Mt. Shasta too! It was one of the most powerful experiences I have had...
No renting 3 bed 2 bath around $750 not to bad. very beautiful area to be in. Great people. Snow during winter good in some ways and bad as far as transportation goes unless you have 4wd. Summer is awesome though. Hope i helped answers your question :)

Been around there couple times the energy around Mt Shasta is unexplainable I've seen white orbs in the area too floating around
