Is there a way to use an old phone as an android tv using a dongle or a dock (I have a galaxy s8 but has cellular problems but WiFi and bluetooth still works. I was hoping that could use it with my old hdmi monitor )
Just picked one of these up and there seems to be some problems with streaming on certain apps. Netflix seems to work perfectly, besides occasional quality drops. Even got ppsspp running some games. I hope to see it in its fullest potential in the future of Android TV.
I would choose Tivo over the Chromecast because it has Android Tv home screen and adding extra storage is easier. Google Tv has way too many paid Tv suggestions even when you unistall those apps. You can go apps only mode but then you might as well use a custom home screen. The channels option is missing on Chromecast. I love the channels option on Android Tv interface. Google Tv is just launcher that the Tivo Stream application does. I disabled all the Tivo stuff and it works and looks really good. The Chromecast needs a U-green powered hub to add storage. The Tivo only needs a usb adapter.
I've been a TiVo customer for about 4 years and I was actually going to buy this device. In the TiVo forums, there actually was a thread created about the (then) upcoming Sabrina device. I decided to go with it, instead. For one, out of the box, there were issues with the TS4K which have since been fixed through updates. Also, there were compatibility issues people were experiencing with attached devices. With Sabrina, I actually tested two hubs, one of which did not work correctly, which is my own fault for not reading the forum thread enough. Unfortunately, I could not figure out a way for the Sabrina device to recognize a 5TB portable hard drive, so I'm looking into other ways of connecting to the drive, including through a router. Initially, I was going to have portable hard drives going in my network, one for the main use and another for backup (1 attached to the router and the other to Sabrina). Now, I'm going to have to find a way to attach both to my router. I purchased a USB 3.0 hub but apparently it was low powered. I have another one coming soon to test.
Thank you for this comment. I feel like this device is more suited for the dozen of us actual TiVo users, and not someone looking for a Chromecast replacement. ETA basically skipped over this entire function.
@@bakedbeans6 i was only initially interested in the TS4K because I was hoping in the back of my mind that at some point, it could connect to a TiVo DVR for live TV. I got the understanding that it's not technically possible so I went with a better device overall. It runs better and has better overall support.
I left TiVo five years ago due to my then new home not having access to cable. I was with them since the S2. I have this device, and wondered if it was possible to side load the Fire TV TiVo.apk? I like the remote for nostalgia.
I got one one clearance for $15, and it's actually awesome for the money. Great for a kids room or someone who doesn't want a cable bill, but already has WiFi
Cool video. I remember when tivo began, they where tv recorder, that revorded tv shows,so that you wont miss them. There's many products to make your tv into an entertainment center. It used to be smart tv in 2013. and had yiutube available. But a few years ago it's updated and became service based, apps, or you need a ps4 , apple tv, or someting like this. It gets technical to how to set things up onto your tv and was interesting because of the mobile games in playstore , to the tv.
I bought this from the Tivo site 1st day, because I was looking for something certified at that time that had newish hardware that would not lag, so I already had an account but the usb c port supports PD so can be powered through a hub, currently I'm using the port with a 1Tb SSD drive. Now that I have played around with the device I'm considering buying a second Android TV device but I think I may go with a newer box with the latest amlogic SOC, I would have bought a second Tivo if it weren't for some firmware bugs but for me the Tivo has the potential to be much better with software improvements.
I have this and so far it is the best streaming device I have used. (I have not used shield or roku or the new Chromecast.) Compared to Chromecast 4k and Fire TV 4k it is amazing!
I like the remote better than other devices, how well does the ff/rw work, if you're skipping through commercials can you tell where you are or is the frame frozen?
Now I got to learn how did you connect a USB stick to this thing and how to setup playing recast adn N64 on Google TV.. something fun to do soong. Thanks for the vid.

Hey ETA, unrelated to the video but, can you test Geforce Now on a Raspberry Pi 4, through Chrome? (If it does not work by default, you can show your browser as Chrome OS using an extension.)
Hmm yeah this actually seems pretty good. Been waiting for a legit cheap android tv device that got a usb port. I have my eye on the Mi Box S but it hasn't gone on sale for months now. Which do you guys think is better, this or Mi Box S? And I already have a Shield TV. Just looking for another android tv device for another tv.
You repeatedly said that you would choose the new chromecast over this but you don't say why? If they have the same specs and performance, why choose one over the other?
PLEASE HELP!! When i go to the tivo stream app and say i search for the Avengers and i click the prime video button, it says rent/buy it doesnt launch it, what am i doing wrong ????
I have the tivo and new chromecast. They both have same performance, but for emulation the tivo is hands down a better choice simply due to the type c input to add micro usb and usb stick storage. The chromecast requires a powered hub and its very picky about what hubs it likes. So if making a decision based on emulation, the tivo is bu far a better choice due to convenience alone.
Not about that video specifically but, is there any handheld that can emulate 3ds/gamecube perfectly? And maybe wii/wiiu/switch, even that with low fps, but still playable?
Please tell me where to get roms (zip) not (rar) files I have tried everything to get resident evil 1 rom (zip) but can't find it for many ps1 roms either
How do I connect my Bluetooth controller to it? it says "Bluetooth pairing request from wireless controller pair with this device?" But it won't let you accept anything
You guys do know for the same price you're paying for these cheap low quality streaming boxes you can get better boxes out there for fifty bucks and have more space and are just generally better made like the w95 TV box with about fifty bucks it's a killer box better than the firestick you don't have to sideload garbage like you do on the fire stick and it actually is bigger so you have more ways to cool it and keep it running more efficiently and it supports more codex and just a better out box and the firestick
I wonder if the telemetry is as bad with TiVo as it prob is with the Google TV Chromecast. I'm not hyper aware of that kinda thing as a piHole is a (maybe only) solution, but it's good to know.
I'd love to find a chromecast like device, that I can just stream a video file to it from a PC on the same network.. with one catch, that it can do 2x playback! Chromecast+VLC is choppy and un-usable. The Tivo Stream 4K, seems like I need to navigate with a remote/menu, and find files on the network manually? A bit more of a hassle.. but can it do variable speed playback?
Hello everyone, I have a problem with the tivo 4K: When pairing bluetooth headphones without volume control, I cannot vary the volume with the remote control. Does anyone know how to fix it? I have tried it on other TVs and the result is the same. Thanks for reply and best regards. The headphones are the Realme buds Air pro
You need some buds that let you control the volume on them. I have the original Pixel Buds that works better with the TiVo than my AirPods with no volume control.
I think ETA Prime likes the Google remote because he has big fingers and the buttons are much larger, just guessing because he doesn't actually explain why which is strange for this channel.
Hey I have a question that I can't see no one here talking about I wanted the Google TV since I love Google only products but it doesn't have Google play on it because I wanted to play some android games like Call of Duty mobile can I do it with the Tivo? If anyone knows that so I don't waste time getting it if it doesn't do what I want it to do.
I got that Nvidiashield stick and I'll never go to any other streaming device unless it is the Nvidia shield box. But I feeling this tivo stream don't get it twisted and will also choose it over chrome cast.

Yup, and still a better device than the Onn box they sell for the same price despite the tivo bloat
Not only did I learn more about the Tivo Stream, I found out about a few movies and video game emulators.
