This one was bloody hard. Haven’t had so much trouble with a metroidvania boss since Hollow Knight’s endgame (and post-game) fights, wow. Absolutely amazing fight, though. A complete visual spectacle (without being indiscernible), and brilliant sound design. The music is perfect throughout, of course - very menacing and erratic, perfectly befitting of the nightmare we face. Also I thought the last phase was a survival timer lol (like Fidus) so I waited it out almost until the end of the countdown. Must’ve won with just a second left.
I still love how a pain in the ass boss, literally born of the Child's fear of you, is in of itself afraid of you. A concept of fear itself that views its source as a nightmare. Makes you wonder if the dreamborn is aware that it is only a nightmare/concept and you are the real deal.
The frantic pace of this track really captures my desperation to land a hit from a heavy weapon onto this boss. Not to spoil too much, but this kind of fight is my favorite in soulslikes/metroidvanias
Thanks Alex for your beautiful music, it felt like I was in the End of creation itself beating the source of all evil in the world, and i had a little heart attack dealing with him.
What a beautiful, terrifying song to go with such an intense boss! This had me glued to my seat as I repeatedly broke and reformed - and the little touches make everything about this fight even better! I think my favorite part about the fight was how you immediately reformed when you died and the music mostly persisted. Also, the extra synthesizers really lean in to the otherworldly terror, and the tenseness of the song combined with the striking colors filled me with as much fear and determination as the final boss filled me with despair! Amazing work, I can't wait for Grime II!
I really like the more electronic sounds in this one. It's not very common in a lot of your tracks, but you execute it wonderfully. Makes it really fresh and exciting to hear! Dang, I really gotta pick up GRIME when I get the chance, especially now that it's had two big updates recently! Update: Just grabbed the game and I'm having a blast!
Glad you're enjoying it! It was really fun to expand on these elements as I don't often get to. There are electronic elements peppered throughout the soundtrack that are more layered or textural, if I was to mute all the orchestral elements they'd be a lot more noticable. I often think about Lords of Shadow 2 which does that really well. I kind of wanted that to represent the chaotic energy of the protagonist, I had more ambitious ideas like every acoustic instrument would pulse with a layered synthetic sound but it was quite ambitious and not something I was able to give enough time to. And then when I was asked about this boss there wasn't talk about music at first but I was like I have to do this lol.
@@alex-roe It's a great textural detail; not one I see very often. Gives it this crackly otherworldly instability and really love when it's used like this.
It is trending also because it's in the Humble Choice bundle this month. The bundle has Grime, Remnant: From The Ashes, Ghostwire Tokyo, and five other games for $12 total
This f**king guy....I think i might've spent roughly an hour on attempts before i first beat him, which is like, 3 times longer than i've spent on any other boss in this game. But at least the OST was good enough to encourage me to continue going back
Heavy spoilers ahead I think we fight what the Child feared as soon as they understood what we were. So the desperation and fighting against the end of the world makes a lot of sense. As we ARE the end of the world, and fight a dreamed, distorted version of ourselves.
@@Rhabarbarumwow, I've thought that this "reality transfer" was real and wasn't just a game mechanic, so I've assumed that we are basically fighting ourselves from the different reality
Another thing i love about this boss is that it embodies the 2 core fundamentals of GRIME: parry/absorb and patience. If you do not have both, its going to hurt a lot.
Love this piece. It is frightening yet dreamy at the same time, just like actual nightmares. Meanwhile the strings give nostalgic feeling, as if telling you that this is the end of your journey.
just like Goku , I felt like I was fighting a really tough opponent And was having fun with the fight at the same time, even though it was frustrating in some cases. By the way, I know he's not a real person but you can't help but feel that kind of sense during the whole fight.
The Bisexual boss Edit: Just found out this game is made by Israeli, as much as i love that game i can't bring myself to like it, unless the devs aren't in support of the atrocities

This boss... This boss is everything there needed to be.. One of the best boss's in metriodvania's period
You must’ve chuckled when I was asking for more game content after finishing grime
Maybe a little!
I swear this guy kicked my ass something fierce for a solid hour straight. Longer than any other boss i’ve fought

0:50 to 1:10 i never heard a song that much beautiful really !!
i think so!!

Congrats on beating the entire game, it's not easy!

Just beat this boss, thanks for elevating the fight with the otherworldly, eerie music.

Such an amazing boss, with an equal ost
It's actually beautiful, you're basically relieving the Child from a nightmare... about you.
The metroidvania boss of all time, change my mind.
Grime probably has the best bosses among all metroidvanias. Surrogate Vulture, Final Performance and Fidus also go HARD!
Now it seems that some of nine sols bosses and prince of persia lost crown bosses have joined the club .
Holy shit! More Grime content!
Hauntingly beautiful as always
Your talent/skill continues to refine with every piece! I always get excited to see a new release from you in my line up! Keep killing it man! 💪
I actually bought this game solely because I love your music and saw you did the OST for it. Easy sale for me!
It is trending also because it's in the Humble Choice bundle this month. The bundle has Grime, Remnant: From The Ashes, Ghostwire Tokyo, and five other games for $12 total
Thank you so much 😊
This boss was so hard and his OST so beautiful, that i have to go here to enjoy hit more than 10s
Love GRIME and especially your music in this game. Thank you and wish you further creative development

You ever realize the music has the same cues from Akhlan's theme. Which makes a lot of sense since you're fighting another vessel
Don't even know why we fight that one, but this track motivates like we fight for the survival of the world.
Bit ironic, thinking of it.
Heavy spoilers ahead

You made it, Alex
Keep it up
This boss is epic, but the music is a masterpiece.
Beautiful Track again! But it's hard to compete with the masterpiece of "The Final Performance" :)
Hardest & Best Boss by far!!!!! OST IS SO GOOD

im not looking forward to this when i spent an hour on the upgraded vulture
I came out 4 months ago and theres still no extended version?😢
Hey Alex, I am rather curious whether you are still going to make OSTs for GRIME 2, anyway awesome music.
I got to play this game
Love this piece. It is frightening yet dreamy at the same time, just like actual nightmares. Meanwhile the strings give nostalgic feeling, as if telling you that this is the end of your journey.
God I hope to hear you again in the sequel, sir!
Do you mean the Dreamborn Terror or me haha
@@alex-roe I mean your stuff has always gone hard enough to tear holes in reality, so why not both?
this ost so gotdamn good

Any chance for an official release?
I hope so, but not my call to make.

Incredible fight, incredible song, thanks for all the work on Grime to you and the devs team 🫂
