Saw this competition this morning and thought it was a cool community interaction. Don't understand how people got upset. Hope it goes well and people still get involved
I can its elitest most people don't even have PCs these days (including me I'm on a tablet) you need to have money to be having a decent camera or phone to film with and a PC for editing so its very niche and exclusive to the better off.
@@GreatSageSunWukong If you do even the slightest amount of research you can find a number of free video editors out there for both Android and Ios tablets/phones. Also you can do editing within the youtube app itself. So nothing nich, exclusive, or elitist.

And even then people don't like giveaways in general because it's luck dependent like the lottery or gambling. At least with this kind of contest it allows people of a particular skill - like editing - to be pit against other people of the same caliber, that way when someone wins it lets that person know that they did it the best out of all the others. I don't know how to edit a video. I'm not angry I can't get a Gameboy, I think it's a great idea to do a competition instead of just a giveaway.... People surprises me everyday....
For people who don't know how to edit a video and want to participate - one tip is that Windows 10 has a video editor included now. It's part of the Photos app, search the start menu for "video editor" and you can probably find it. It lets you put together clips and add captions etc. Basically windows movie maker features but more modern.

Unfortunately, when you become a public figure (youtube or otherwise), you open yourself to criticism from people who don't know you. That doesn't mean it's right, but it's just what it is. That being said, please don't worry too much Elliot, I know you didn't intend to piss people off, sometimes it just happens. Keep up the good work, man.

I'd take a custom gameboy over like 50 dollars cash. Editing a bunch of videos together is *Not* worth what most editors pay anyway. Literally I have sony vegas, I am not a super skilled editor, but jump cuts ain't worth shit. Which I guess will speak to who wins the contest, who is most creative with their editing.
@@johnwest6690 as someone who edits as a hobby, it can be a ton of work depending on what you're doing. If you're just compiling a bunch of shots, all you have to do is watch the video and cut. It probably takes the time of the content you're cutting + 20%. However, I recently chopped a 2 hour stream down to 16 minutes for a highlight reel, but the editing after took me about 13 hours
As a former graphic designer and video editor exposure is so important. Being able to have your work broadcasted in front of more people than you’re used to can only help the cause.

As a designer, I had countless remarks of "FREE design needed, you'll get exposure" and all that - this, is NOT one of those occasions. This is a competition, with a prize, with an entry requirement to enter. This is a great idea with so many free editing software and tutorials out there, ANYONE can do this, if they spend the time to learn instead of moaning haha.
I know this feeling, I had so many trolls when I did a giveaway. It's a hard thing to take when you know how hard you work editing and uploading. Keep doing what you do because there are people like myself who really appreciate you and the awesome content.

Took me a couple hours to master Davinci Resolve, most of that watching "how to" vids, OK watches is a bit of a dry subject at any time and I am not the best at being the smooth suave and sophisticated presenter but I have been knocking out some pretty good vids this last few months for the want of a couple hours learning.

Here in the UK what elliot has asked for is illigal. It's not a competition if the payout it worth less than the work provided. If he gets one subscriber from any of the compilation videos. He's made money from advertisement. It's not a compatition any more it work that should have been payed for that he is using to create videos that get him subscribers that make him money.

If I choose to do a little video for Elliot, then that’s my decision as I am going i to it knowing the rules and rewards of creating something. The video won’t be monetised, and to be honest I wouldn’t care if he decided to monetise it, there is nothing illegal about what he’s proposed, god if it was then I spent 10 years of my career doing illegal pitches to companies that might or might not go with my campaign/concept. As much as I understand where you were coming from, I can see where the people with issues came from. You did basically ask for a free edited video from multiple people, to just compile together and watch on your own stream. Sure, the winners got something, but for the others it'd be effectively for nothing but the chance for a couple more people to see their stuff. People will always have issue with things like this, but at least this was better than the whole Shaq fiasco

the contest prize is more than awesome, many people just edit for people because they enjoy their content. I myself do animation and illustration but i’ll tell you that something along the lines of what he requested isn’t too difficult to produce.

Took me a couple hours to master Davinci Resolve, most of that watching "how to" vids, OK watches is a bit of a dry subject at any time and I am not the best at being the smooth suave and sophisticated presenter but I have been knocking out some pretty good vids this last few months for the want of a couple hours learning.

Here in the UK what elliot has asked for is illigal. It's not a competition if the payout it worth less than the work provided. If he gets one subscriber from any of the compilation videos. He's made money from advertisement. It's not a compatition any more it work that should have been payed for that he is using to create videos that get him subscribers that make him money.

@@sakuraslight I’m in the U.K. too, I’ve been a graphic designer for almost 20 years, I know the difference between spec work and doing something for fun. If I choose to do a little video for Elliot, then that’s my decision as I am going i to it knowing the rules and rewards of creating something. The video won’t be monetised, and to be honest I wouldn’t care if he decided to monetise it, there is nothing illegal about what he’s proposed, god if it was then I spent 10 years of my career doing illegal pitches to companies that might or might not go with my campaign/concept. I like the idea. I did some video editing in the past, but now I'm GameBoy modder cause like that. Contest is cool and I really don't know why would someone be upset. I hope there will be cool and unique videos in the end. :) Good luck to everyone who will enter.
Why are people even mad?
As much as I understand where you were coming from, I can see where the people with issues came from.
You did basically ask for a free edited video from multiple people, to just compile together and watch on your own stream. Sure, the winners got something, but for the others it'd be effectively for nothing but the chance for a couple more people to see their stuff.
People will always have issue with things like this, but at least this was better than the whole Shaq fiasco

the contest prize is more than awesome, many people just edit for people because they enjoy their content. I myself do animation and illustration but i’ll tell you that something along the lines of what he requested isn’t too difficult to produce.

elliot, I thought this was a great idea. I think you hit the nail on the head. people are just sour because not everyone knows how to edit and this would actually reward hard work, instead of random chance. and even if you didn't want to put a video together yourself, this could be a fun way to offset that labor, and as you said, let some budding editors have a shot at proving themselves. you spend hours of your days editing free content for us. how could anyone be upset about that?
