I want to sew a senator for a boy just entering a year old, is the 4 inches extra at the back applicable to him and likewise the five inches opening at the front?. His neck circumference is 12 as well.

Thanks and God bless you.My question is this,there are some senator wears that doesn't have placket at the front for wide opening but zip at the shoulder instead.I remember I sew one for my son but it was difficult for the head to enter since I put Zip at the shoulder.So pls how can I get the accurate measurement if I use zip at the shoulder part for enough wide opening.I think you get my question.
