  • Approximately 30 protesters gathered in front of a General Dynamics factory in Repentigny, Quebec yesterday to protest the defence company's sales to the Israel Defence Force. General dynamics manufactures artillery ammunition and bombs for attack jets used by the Israeli military in Gaza.
Protesters link weapons made on the site to what they say are contributing to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Local 514 called and emailed General Dynamics to request a comment in response to this protest but did not receive a response before the deadline of this report.
General Dynamics, which is the third largest federal government contractor in the United States of America, has seen its stocks increase more than 10% since Israel's bombardment of Gaza began in October.
Numerous activists encouraged the workers to leave General Dynamics or change employers. Drivers were seen honking and taking flyers passed by members of ACTIONMTL and Montreal4Palestine-the two groups involved in organizing this demonstration. The Repentigny police were present and only warned some members to stop blocking the access for cars and trucks, which the protesters promptly did after the organizers told their members to keep a decorum.
"Our goal here today is mostly to use our voice. To be vocal against Genocide Dynamics," Montreal4Palestine activist Ahad Malhi told Local 514. "Like in any country, I can tell you whatever. Local 514 interviewed an employee at General Dynamics who wished to stay anonymous for fear of retribution.
"Take us employees, we're not aware, well, we don't know much. I got a job to do, and, I do it," said the General Dynamics employee. The employee said they were disappointed with the lack of transparency from their employer and appreciated to know about their involvement with Israel as only the high-level employees and management are aware of where sales and distribution goes.
