I'd say Parks & Rec is very forgettable (with the exception of a couple characters) compared to The Office, but everyone has their own taste. The Office is in my top 2 comedy shows of all time together with Friends

@@haraldsbaumanis That's fine, but Parks & Rec holds a higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes and similar sites. Parks is a little bit less goofy, but has way more heart and is very endearing. The first season was a blueprint of The Office, but luckily they realised what they had and changed the format a bit after season 1 to make it their own thing (Leslie stopped being a moron and became a competent leader, unlike Michael Scott who stayed a very lovable baffoon throughout The Office). Then there's Chris Pratt, the legend Ron Swanson and a plethora of other funny and unforgettable characters. Tbh, I never understood why peeps care for one show but not the other when truth is, both shows are overall very similar and were created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur (latter was a writer on The Office and showrunner on Parks).

The Office seems to get better and better. Steve Carell brings the energy in the first few episodes but you quickly see the other personalities shine throughout.

Just like Friends, this show hits its stride later in Season 1 and is great from there.
Friends and The Office are the only comedy shows I know that don't become terrible in later seasons. Definitely the two best comedy shows of all time, in my opinion.

The Office is so rewatchable, a million little jokes and inside things you get when you pay close attention. Example, Creed randomly dyes his hair black and then later someone mentions all the ink is missing from the printer.
Before The Office, Steve Carell was somewhat known. He was one of the main correspondents on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Jon Stewart was a genius in his own right. The Daly show was epic when John Stewart reigned. over it. He got away with so much.
Theres something so special about Season 1, I knew instantly it was going to be even greater when this came out, one of the best sitcoms ever made

The Six Million Dollar Man was a major hit tv show in the 70s about an astronaut who crashed a plane and who was rebuilt with a bionic right arm, both legs and eye. So he became a superhero working for the government. They had no idea how to make it look like he was going "fast" so they made the very questionable decision to show him running in slow motion with that "shatatatata" sound effect repeatedly. And somehow that was supposed to be him going super fast. There was a lot of very horrible physics in that show for sure.
Steve Carell is just brilliant.

I only got into it myself a year ago and I’ve already watched the entire series dozens of times. You’ll love the characters. Constantly laughing and/or tearing up 🥹

As someone who owns the full dvd sets of every sitcom you listed I can say without hesitation The Office is absolutely the best!!!!!
The Office is one of those shows that starts off moderately strong but gets really good as it goes on. I personally would say go for it.
edit: no spoilers, but as it goes on it does start focusing more on other characters and less on the awkward boss man.

There are some parts in later seasons that are so funny that it will literally put you on the ground laughing! There is also a fair amount of drama and romance! This is one show that should not be missed!

The actors who played Ryan and Toby and Kelly were writers for the show which is why they are kept in a different part of the office so they could be writing on the go during filming.

You get to know all the different employees in the office over time…and they’re hysterical! Yeah it starts with mostly cringy Michael Scott as the boss, but as everyone else’s characters are revealed it gets even funnier!

The Office was lightning in a bottle. it was based on the British series of the same name. However, they had to make some changes especially with the Michael Scott character, they had to find a way to make him more likeable for the long run because there were only 12 episodes of the original series in Britain. And Steve Carell brought a really heartbreaking vulnerability and loneliness to Michael in later seasons.
Both series are shot like nothing else. All of the people on the show sat at their desks all day. There were two cameras operating, one that followed the main action, and one that picked up reaction shots from the other characters sitting at their desks. So to many of them, who had actually worked in offices like Pam, the receptionist, it felt like working in an office because it wasn’t a typical set where you shoot a scene and then go offset while they shoot someone else.
Also they had three writers who had roles on the show. Paul Lieberstein played Toby. Mindy Kaling was Kelly Kapoor. And BJ Novak was Brian the Temp. That is unheard of. Also, the writer of the episode would be onset as a producer. Also unheard of. On most shows the writers and actors often don’t even meet each other.
The series was not shot in the traditional manner. They did not want young hot stars that looked like friends, though I loved friends. They wanted realism.
That realism led to some of the most in-depth character development on a series in history. The show had moments of great pathos as well as comedy.
You’ll notice the comedy is not typical of many sitcoms with set up line, set up line, punchline. All of the comedy comes from the characters. Which is the hallmark of really great comedy series.
The first season of the office was rough, but the second season is where they really started to hit their stride after the network decided to trust them and leave them alone lol.
Continue with it it is in someways more popular now than it was when it was on the air. With Podcasts books and the highest streaming minutes of any comedy series worldwide.
I implore you watch the whole series. One of those that must be watched at least once in your life. It was the entire reason I kept Netflix till they removed it

24:24 The side characters gradually do get more crazy / unique, to the point where Jim and Pam end up being the only "normal" characters left, but in a good way. My favorite side character is the old man "Creed."

I wanted to work in an office at the time this premiered. Infact I just graduated a year before it aired. Like you Quinn I wanted to work as a secretary.

In the late 70s, there were 2 popular shows on television. The Six Million Dollar man starred Lee Majors (also was the original "Fall Guy" in the 80s) and the Bionic woman with Lindsey Wagner. Both characters had suffered catastrophic accidents and were "rebuilt" using robotic hands, arms, sight, hearing and legs. When the bionic people would run, it would be shown in slow motion and a repetitive sound would play in the background, sort of the equivalent of making the noise when playing with light sabers. Kids would make the noise while they would play outside running with friends, pretending they too were part robot.
The Office is probably my favorite all-time comedy which is endlessly rewatchable. Outside of Twin Peaks, I can't think of a better choice.
