I've had the 55" model of this tv (M55Q7-H1) since the holiday season of 2020, this is the most feature-rich tv you could get then for $499. FALD, AMD Freesync, VRR, ALLM, eARC & 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs (4K@60Hz panel). The display is worth that price alone. Semi-matte finish cuts glare well enough for brightly lit areas, 30 local dimming zones & 600 nits is low compared to others around the $500/$600 range. You will notice blooming when captions and menu text are on black backgrounds. The blacks are surprisingly deep without much crushing. Out of the box display is good. Once you tweak the picture settings it gets great. Keep Active Full Array set to medium, high is a bit aggressive. To enable motion control you must disable VRR in the ProGaming Engine option. Sound is pretty bad, (2x10 Watt speakers) turning volume leveling on makes it louder without cranking it. This is worth the money. The VRR on this set even makes SKYRIM on PS3 move butter smooth.

Just got this for $300 bucks flat for the 65 inch at Walmart. They over stocked it and cashier gave me the option and I had to take it. Pictures pretty decent and HBO MAX is on the TV now. Probably the best TV I’ve had for the price. And has composite plugs in the back, which most TV’s don’t have anymore. Pretty happy with this purchase.

Glad to see the review and confirmation of my purchase! :) I've had the M8 version and it's been great. I agree with there still being a little too much red, but I only noticed more in comparison with other TVs. And with minor adjustments while not going on full calibration, it's a great picture for the money! Those extra dimming areas and the updated firmware last month helped a lot!

Thank you for posting. I picked up a Vizio M 48” (????) 4K right just as HDR was starting to be announced. I would rate my old model for it’s day about how you rated this Vizio today. My Vizio is right before HDR hit, so I’ll be upgrading to new 4K 2022 probably to go with my Panasonic 4K Blu Ray player. I probably won’t get Vizio again (nothing against them) but move directly to LG’s OLED of what ever type is better HDR real world at that point. When I got my Vizio it was $499 vs LG’s OLED at $1,899 for same size and better image quality. Adjusting the Vizio tv’s with a set up dvd is really helpful, tweaking dimming sections and brightness. It’s decent cheap. I had to buy something due to insurance time limit from a fire and loss of house, but yes I always 2nd guessed my choosing a Walmart Vizio vs a LG OLED even though it was about 3x as much. The new and next gen OLED or Q or what ever promise to be far better.. and honestly with what I saved 5 years ago on my Vizio just about pays for a new LG OLED... and that will be a better LG than I could get 5 years ago.. so yeah, I’m ok with thumb “UP” for Vizio.

I'm glad that Vizio went with that kind of remote. Not fond of the voice command thing. Vizio is the least smart of the bunch, which is to say the least intrusive. Sometimes you just want a TV, just a TV. Which is something impossible to get now days. If you want a really good display you have to accept all the bells and whistle. Some TV won't even let you opt out. Either accept the Google terms or don't use the TV. Getting a new TV soon and it'll probably be a Vizio or an LG. My experience with both has be very good.

The audio is very disappointing out of the box. Like Caleb said, turning off surround sound helps big time. Also, I’ve turned on volume leveling to keep the volume on a consistent level when switching between content (also helps with commercials). I’ve set dialogue enchanter to low (helps boosts vocals when watching Dolby content). And I went into the equalizer and switched it to dynamic (it’s flat out of the box). This setup is “good enough” for me as a bedroom tv.
Definitely get a soundbar for the living room though.

    @DronePilotCalgary 3 роки тому

Caleb, I appreciate you telling folks to consider at least a soundbar over the TV's speakers, but realistically have you reviewed any TV that had "decent" sound? Even with features like Sony's Acoustic Surface or LG's Crystal Sound, I haven't heard decent sound. I know acoustic panel speakers work, but in TVS?
And then the remote. The first thing I do with a new TV or Blu-ray player or soundbar remote is toss it in a basket and use a universal remote. Even the cable box remote is 100% better. I do admit to using a Harmony remote as my goto remote.
Finally, the day I can get a "talk to" remote or TV or speaker to get the content I really want will be a miracle (eg, "please play the oldest episode of X show that I have have saved on my PVR that I haven't watched yet" has never worked for me).
Thanks for the videos all the same. I enjoy them all.

Ok so I have a bit of a dilemma.
This is a VERY specific question and the lack of an answer has me in a bit of a major conundrum.
In my LR I currently have a Vizio P55-F1 55”
    I just bought a Vizio M55Q8-H1 55”
I know that generally, the P Series is the better line, and has a brighter picture, but now having gotten this New Quantum M-Series TV, I’m wondering if it is close to the same level.
My problem is, I’m getting rid of the tv in my room, and upgrading from an M50-E1 due to a bad panel board, (Horizontal Pin Stripe Lines) and it being an older tv with an inferior picture,)
The thing is, I want to get to an Atmos/DTS:X Soundbar to add to my current 7.1 system, (My current Soundbar is an old Vizio VSB 202) and the P Series DOES NOT support/have eARC, while the newer M-Series Quantum does have eARC.
I want to make sure I can get the most out of superior sound technologies when it comes to adding a Dolby Atmos soundbar.
(Yes I realize it will not be the full experience, but I already have a Onkyo 7.1 surround system with a HUGE subwoofer, and full Atmos 9.1 Is not in my current budget, nor does it seem feasible to my current setup.
    My question is :
Will I be sacrificing significant picture quality by putting the P Series in my room, and using the new M- Series in its place due to the eARC feature on the newer TV ? If not, Are there any workarounds for superior sound ?
The P55-F1 Is a BEAST, and amazing for watching movies in the main room with family and guests.
I’m not sure what to do and will appreciate any help you can give.
    Thank you.
P.S. I’m also trying to decide between the SONY HT-X8500 DOLBY ATMOS and DTS:X and the Vizio M21d-H8R (DTS:X Only)

I was actually waiting for this review as I just purchased the TV but the 55" variant. It took a lot of adjusting and figuring out what each setting does but I got a picture quality that I am very impressed with given I paid less than $500 USD. I actually anticipated that you might destroy the TV being that once you've reviewed much higher end sets these budget options must be quite hard to watch lol. However I was wondering if I was missing something in the blooming observations because it was performing better then the TCL P605 which it replaced. This set handles blooming rather well and when watching regular content I am not seeing much or any blooming at all. Also for peak brightness highlights in HDR content I found myself very impressed compared to that TCL P605. One scene in Gears 5 Hive Busters DLC there is lava, the brightness actually strained my eyes some and the detail of the lava flow remained visible not blown out. Overall worth every penny given the already great price. Sill some bugs however, HDMI 2.1 VRR feature requires a yet undelivered patch to work properly. There is stutter in gaming when its set to on even though frames are not dropping. Vizio has already acknowledged the issue and says a patch is coming to fix it, but it's not a deal breaker as most games are playing flawlessly at 60 fps on Xbox Series X consoles. Also Vizio advised the next patch will improve local dimming performance and brighter HDR picture, so things may yet improve still. Great review DT!

I also just replaced my TCL with this M7 55”. So far I’m impressed. My current issues is that I can not make the tv work through eArc with my Soundcore infinite Pro Soundbar. Also when I go to game mode the colors look oversaturated so I’m using Calibrated* mode instead, which then flattens colors to much. But so far, for $479 from Sam’s.m, can’t complain.

I got a M55Q7-H1 and returned it in about 2 weeks. Didn't like it at all. The picture was nice when the set worked perfectly. But in the time I had it that amount of time was very little. Constantly had WiFi issues on the set (not with any other device in my house) and it would kick you out of the apps back to the SmartCast menu. Had to use my PS4 for any streaming apps as the Vizio just never wanted to connect. Chromecast rarely functioned properly. Overall was just a massive headache that I wanted nothing more to do with. Returned it and got a Samsung 55" Q60T, and despite some lower reviews, I am much happier with the Samsung.

I just picked up a M55Q8-H1 from Walmart. I went with the Q8 because the 3x increase in dimming zones over the Q7 means that, on paper, it has better picture quality. I have to agree about the sound -- completely wimpy, and the virtual surround mode is almost cringe-worthy, so... like the video says, turn it off. One big disappointment was that the default color calibration was atrocious, with significant magenta bias in the reds. For comparison, the default color on myHisense HU43K300UW was WAY more accurate. Luckily, the color and brightness adjustments on the Q8 were adequate to tone down the magenta saturation, and I'm getting a good picture with the Calibrated mode. Overall this was a decent value, but I was really disappointed by the out-of-box color settings in this mid-range model. I expected better. However, paired with a decent surround system and some picture tweaking, this model makes for a good, affordable home theater system.

I had tested the three of them.
The Sound on TCL 5 is good, but the TV has dull colors compared to the Vizio and Hisence.
Tested the Vizio and the Smart OS was a disaster. It lagged too often and lagged on availability of application. Also, Vizio reliability has always been a problem. So I returned it and got the Hisence H8G.
Picture quality of the HG8 is great. I have not notice the Motion problems that Caled mentioned, and I am very sensitive to Motion stutter, I returned a TCL 6 because of this specific problem.
The sound on the H8G is ok, it lacks a little bit on the bass area bit it is loud. Both TCL's sounded better.
Long story short, I kept the H8G and I am a happy camper.
Opposed to what Caleb sugested, I will take the Hisense any day to the Vizio reliability and the TCL is a joke compared to picture quality of the H8G and the Vizio.
      Just my two cent!
