Australian Army soldiers train with Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Darat (TNI-AD)

Australian Army soldiers from Darwin’s 1st Brigade deployed to Indonesia to train with Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Darat (TNI-AD) for Exercise Wirra Jaya 2022. Hosting duties of Exercise Wirra Jaya rotate between Java, Indonesia, and the Northern Territory in Australia each year. This year was the ninth iteration of the exercise, which was held from 7- 20 October 2022 at Baturaja Training Area, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Australian and Indonesian teams progressed through platoon-level motorised training and urban operations training.

it seems that the Australian hand to hand combat training is more realistic and effective. Traditional martial arts does hv some effective technique but the overall curriculum and training methods arent realistic and doesn't effectively train its practitioners to be able to apply techniques in combat conditions (high stress situations) where the opponent is actually resisting/ actively fighting back.

Nah the traditional silat is mostly there for show and parades, for the real training TNI uses mostly mix martial arts from many different styles like judo or krav maga or modified silat to fit modern unarmed combat

We are neither your allies nor enemy, just neighbours. Australia supported Indonesia occupation in east timor, they recognised it as one of our province. Indonesia,Australia , and US were making goood money back then together in east timor it's a lot of money makes balibo five is a worthwhile collateral damage, Australia and Indonesia both are dirty in this case, doesn't matter here or there not many people in higher up willing to talk about it.
