  • In this video, I'm trying to find the best clip on guitar tuner by comparing the TC electronic Polytune Clip with the Snark SN5X.

You did not mention the strobe option, pressing the button on the side a couple times activates it, significantly increases tuning accuracy, not as fast but extremely accurate. The Poly tune clip is far faster at acquiring notes, can play any note and it tells you what it is as you play along, sweet.

Just changed the battery in my Poly Tune clip and apparently it's just dead. I have had it for years (probably at least 5), so I suppose I can't really complain. Dig it a lot, and will certainly, great both at home and on tour, and I'm about to go score a new one from Amazon so I'm all good for upcoming west coast dates in May. Definitely a great tuner, solid construction, accurate, great/sturdy clip, and sleek.

Two questions 1) does the PolyTune use mic or vibration? 2) how wide does the PolyTune clip open? I use Snarks on wind instruments, they can clip onto something up to 1 inch in diameter such as an Alto Flute.

nice over all review but you miss the poly feature of the poly tune , and how low does it go , not everyone play in stanard that became a limiting factor in my choice of tuner alot

TC Electronics also has a UniTune. Same device w/out the polytune feature. Its what I use for my bass.

I've used both and like them both. However, I have always been a Peterson kinda person and so I go with the Stroboclip HD. I got mine as a gift, but can understand how it wouldn't be for everyone...the cost is much more than any casual player should spend. A good compromise would be the Polytune which has a Strobe mode included, or at least one model does. Still, if value is of paramount importance, you can't go wrong with Snark.

The display on the Polytune looks a lot dimmer, lower-rez, less-adjustable angle/height, and harder to read on camera. Interesting to hear that's not so in person.

Thanks for your review. Just wondering if the poly feature works well with bass guitar? If you pluck all four strings can the tuner give an accurate reading of which ones are out of tune? Thanks.

I bought the Snark SS2 yesterday for a gig, definitely not reliable and not even accurate. I tested it this morning against my direct in Korg chromatic tuner. The Snark was about 1/4 step off. I’ll be returning the Snark.

What type of chromatic tuner did you use a ca-1? Or another type I’m trying to find a good one

I have a Super Snark 2 and it's _very_ fragile. The casing is splitting open and the head popped off after about roughly one and a half years of use, during which it fell on a hard floor only once. It tunes my E string, but it just barely detects it. For these reasons, I wouldn't recommend the Super Snark 2. You're probably better off with something more durable and accurate such as the Polytune Clip. I don't know about the other Snarks, but DEFINITELY stay away from the Super Snark 2!

My buddy has a Polytune, I've got a couple of different Snarks, the rubberized ST & a cheaper white one (I forget the model). The Polytune is certainly better overall, but for me, I use a Polytune pedal playing live or rehearsal with a band, but the Snarks are perfect for just sitting around at home & for the money, works just fine for that. That battery life isn't incredible, but I try to turn it off every time I'm done.

Did you use the bass setting on the Polytuner? If so....when the tuner times out while you are tuning each string....does it come back to the B setting when you re-start it? if so there seems to be no need for the separate B setting. I just bought one and have been unable figure it out from the manuals. Thanks.

@@OnlineBassGuitar1 Thanks for the reply I am using the default setting too. I'll contact TC electronics and see what they say. Regardless this is a great tuner. Thanks for the demo.

Had a Unitune delivered today. Disappointed with it so far. It arrived with no battery even though the instructions said one was included. Very hard to clip it on in a sensible way so that it can be read. It moves up and down on the cheap metal clip but not from side to side. The only way I can clip it on and see it is by having it vertical but then the tuning indicators are small. To see full width display it has to be clipped sideways but then it's hard to see and the note ID letter stays sideways. Very strange. Thought it would be more accurate than my Snarks but it's not. AND it cost me three times what the Snarks cost me!

Snark suggests taking the tuner off your instrument after using it to preserve the life of the clip/spring. So just take it off your guitar and put in the storage bin of your guitar case. Is this really an issue? lol

The Snark rubber breaks down over time, turning into a sticky, melting mess.
