There is a reason for this. To reach this level of brilliance takes time, hard work, dedication and commitment. It takes great sacrifice. And unfortunately the young musicians of today are not prepared to go that road. They think that making enough noise and making it LOUDER will compensate. It won't.

This "ear-candy" is JAW-DROPPING. Absolutely stunning!!! I recently watched the MGM filM, "The Ziegfield Follies" and although The Astaire/Bremer dance sequence is magical in it's own right, when watching the film, the visual overpowers the music. Listening to the music by itself, it takes on a whole new dimension. The Conrad Salinger orchestration is one of the most uplifting I've ever heard. It actually brought me to tears of joy and .... sadness. Yes sadness at hearing the majesty American Pop music once achieved in its "Golden Age" and the depths to which it has finally sunk. As an American songwriter and music publisher, I offer major kudos and gratitude to John Wilson for reminding us of what Western Culture was once capable of producing. I'm new to The John Wilson Orchestra, but I'm hoping he will be doing a West Coast American tour in 2019. I sure hope a CD of this concert is available.

    • @richardlee8495

well, it's a good song, and well done in the movie, even if Fred and Bremer seem to be playing out a contrived scenario. check out their Limehouse Blues number in the same film. the best thing in it, and a stellar achievement in its own right. Wilson's version of this seems a bit bombastic, and the singer soloist was not exactly to swoon over. love the song, though. nice to hear it in an orchestral setting, and nice chorus as well. i would have liked to have heard Judy Garland do it. maybe she did.

No concerto or symphony has ever moved me as strongly as this brilliant Conrad Salinger orchestration. The exhilaration this piece and performance brings me is immeasurable, but it comes with a great sense of sadness that American (and Western culture) could have reached such a musical zenith back in the 1940's, only to descend to the depth's and depravity of today's American Pop music. I love this kind of music, far superior to 99% of modern music. I have been to a number of JWO concerts, which seem to have been halted by the pandemic and I miss them so much. John Wilson is still working as a conductor, but mainly of classical music. This is equally worthy, of course, but doesn't have the same joie de vivre of the music of the 1920s to the 1950s.

I don't know how many musicians there are but it sounds really very good thanks to John Wilson, if you study and are demanding you achieve these things in addition to being talented, thanks to the Choirs, Musicians, I saw it a bit late but it is still better to see them to learn

Absolutely wonderful. I listen to any JWO music frequently.
Bonus to be able to get up close and personal with the players and John and Matt. Not possible from the audience so something to be said for TV.

Thank you so much for posting this. We have so much to be grateful to Mr.Wilson for but this video shines as being a rich ensemble piece for the entire band.
Sure, we love all the 'greatest MGM plus hits' but here's one of the lesser known routines allowed full bloom.
    Bravo!!

Harry Warren wrote the music, Arthur Freed the words and Conrad Salinger the arrangement, but can someone say who who trancribed it as well, a real labour of love! It's the way it goes from 3/4 to 4/4 then back to 3/4 that greatly enhances my enjoyment of it.

everything that John Wilson does with his incredible orchestra is very good, if he could implement the Spanish Song "Libre" by Nino Bravo who sang it in the 70s, a tribute to him and to all the countries that are under civil and military dictatorships such as currently the US, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, China

In his field, what an outstanding singer Matt is - simply sublime? Compare his voice to the misguided souls that worship the voices that Simon Cowell and his ilk promote.

If you get a chance compare a photo of John Wilson and the actor who played the father on the U.S. sitcom Denis the Menace. I swear they must have been separated at birth.
