Beautiful Song but also bittersweet
Karen never got to record vocals for this track . It was planned for a carpenters album but Karen passed away before she got to record and Richard actually had Dusty sing this song
Thanks to Tori we get to hear “ Karen” again
I can’t imagine the emotion this must bring up in Richard to finally hear this song as he had first heard it in his heard
Wow that makes this even more special, Jesse. I had no idea that Karen didn't sing it. It must have really given Richard an idea of how it may have sounded with Karen. You are so right. This must be so bittersweet for Richard ❤️
@@playitagainsue I didn’t realize the word Bittersweet is. Lyric as i wrote the comment but heard it when i listened a 2nd time
@@jessem470 Bittersweet because the song was planned for Karen, but since she died before she could record it, I wouldn't be surprised if Richard had wished once again that he had done more to save her, or even his parents.
Sounding like Karen or not this young lady is a breath of fresh air. No backup dancers. No seductive moves or twerking. Just a beautiful talent.

Thanks for mentioning Tori's production chops. She's a whiz with production software on top of being a singer who makes me cry. She doesn't have a nice voice; she has a gorgeous voice.

Hi Sue and thank you again for a sweet and wonderful reaction. I see Jesse has made some of my thoughts already. Karen never heard the song, it was in progress when she died. Richard was writing it and there are three more writers on the credit. So it was never a “Carpenters” song but yes for Richard and Dusty Springfield gave voice to it for RC’s “Time” album. Also you realized that with her backing vocals this wasn’t the live version. She even synced her video to it but not for very long. It was mostly stills from the show or what looks like the rehearsal, also. I’m very familiar with the Dusty version which is beautiful but I must say this one is giving me the goosebumps even more. The live show did too. I can see a bit of modesty in her video, she toned down the applause, we were all very loud after this song. She done did good. Even if the sound quality wasn’t there it was live and raw and just so special. Tori’s voice rang through, on both versions. She should be very proud. This is, I believe, the first time she gave herself a “Producer” credit. Overdue on her self produced videos. The original Medley should have one also, IMHO.

Hi Joe, yes Tori should be proud of herself for all the work she has done...well done on the production. It is extra cool that Karen never actually sang the song then so we can hear through Tori what it may have sounded like if she had sung it. It is a hauntlingly beautiful song that Tori kicked butt on. Thanks again Joe. I appreciate the super thanks so very much 🤗🧡
Cynthia Weil co wrote this song and may be the reason Dusty was picked to sing it but just a guess as they go way back to Brill Building Days

Sue, I heard from someone who I seem to remember was at that memorial, now you know, this was done in Downey California, so many people there knew Karen. I heard when Tori did that song people in the congregation started crying, I guess it was so bitter sweet hearing Karens voice to that song because it's the closest to their former resident they have ever heard. Karen herself never had a chance to actually sing that song because she passed away. So Richard recorded it with Dusty Springfield instead, so for Tori to do it was something really special.

Richard was at the event the last day but not at this performance....I was though 😄. Of course this was held at the church where Karens funeral was held and where Richard was married.

@@playitagainsue Yes, and remember it was in Downey. I sat right behind Toris Dad and it was cool watching him videoing her with his phone...so proud. It was only her second time performing in public...she's a good friend of mine.

I have a strong suspicion that Tori will be taking the "Carpenters" style of music to new heights as Karen was unable to do, which I hope she does as Karen is definitely my favourite female singing artist. Hopefully with a bit of input from Richard, seeing as he now knows who she is and the wonderful talent she has, will be prepared to step up to the plate. You have a very good and heartfelt way of reviewing songs as compared to many others, and are you planning to create a playlist for the Carpenters, including Tori?
