And thus, Luffy begins the most difficult solo adventure of his life. No crew, no ship, just him and his hat.
Last time that happened he end up in a barrel lost in a vortex in the middle of the ocean. But I'm sure he'll be fine.
And his family jwells
And the suffering for the next 3 arcs
And securing a wife
2 yrs without the crew from Amazon Lily to Marineford (in real time when making the arcs after sabaody)
Jack: "This gotta be the worst moment in Luffy's life."
Us who know what's coming: "Worst day of his life so far."

The reason why this scene hits so deep is because we are too used to seeing luffy being an wholesome heart warming character, especially his smile that brings happiness to everyone, seeing him lose everything that mattered for him right in front if his eyes and him crying is something we arent used to.
Makes sense
As Luffy also wasn't used to feel that much despair. This was way worse for him than everything before.
In addition he knew that he has caused this with his punch against the celestial dragon.
Yeah, amazon lily is a dark place. Plus, the sabaody scene is sad too.
Spoiler don’t read if ur not on the time skip yet
It was for the good for the straw hats
That's one thing. The biggest reason this scene hits hard for me is Luffy and crew suffering such a devastating loss when we expected the plot armour they had in all their previous adventures. The reality check that they weren't even close to being strong when they had always prided themselves on their strength
Fun fact: after Kuma sent Luffy away, the manga went on a break for a few weeks. Imagine having to wait a few weeks to see what happened to the crew after that
I remember that Very well....... 😅
oda got a excuse to get a break lmfao i love that. btw i was wondering after marineford did the manga also have a 2 year break symbolizing the 2 years they spent training?

He’s very good at details
Luffy eating the Laughing Mushrooms so that he won't feel lonely and sad is so heartbreaking, and often overlooked by fans.
Luffy always speaks his thoughts, but Amazon Lily is probably the most “internal monologue” we get from him. Him reaching for drugs to help ease his loneliness is pretty bleak. I’m assuming Oda hasn’t actually used any mushrooms…though I’m not sure.
Yeha No one understands it
Ya he wasn't eating cause he was hungry, he trying to have fun without his friends

True
"Should I root for Kuma?!"
For the greatest hero in all of One Piece? Yes, yes you should.
While I agree, let's not operate on future knowledge. That would be great.
When this chapter was released, Oda took a break, a month. We know there are 1000+ chapters/episodes now, so the "fear" of death now for the main cast is low, but when you think way back in this moment, everyone felt a little weird real, questioning themeself: Did Oda really kill them?
Everyone made this question at least 1 time
The month of break was so painful
I was just thinking about this because I was like, "Why doesn't Jack get upset?" Then it was like, "Oh right, there's 1000s of episodes, so there's no question that the show will continue on"
And it's way scarier in manga since there's no sounds for Kuma's power. The anime sound choice is very tame imo. Overall my favorite arc in OP
Hands up for those watching it first hand and bully Oda why the series ended at that time 🙋🙋🙋
Pops for one piece fans back then
I was one of those that read this when it came out. By happenstance this was the most recent chapter that was released when I caught up. Because I was like 12 or 13 I didn’t have much understanding of the manga industry so for around a month I thought one piece ended with the deaths of the strawhats. Pain that was only later surpassed by the eclipse in berserk.
Easily one of the best emotional moments in anime. We NEVER see Luffy like this. On the ground, writhing with guilt, crying his eyes out, unable to do anything about whats happening to his friends. He feels so useless. Its hard to watch our boy, this young man whos always so carefree and confident, reduced to this😢
And it only gets worse later
@@Rannos22 just like the animation
@@Elijahhh443 wtf are you talking about
If I had a nickel for every time luffy was on his knees screaming in painin this arc, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice...
Who knows where the others are, Kuma. Kuma knows. As a side note, for Kuma to send someone to another island, especially so far away, he would have to know exactly where that island is. Which is just so impressive!
I love where Sanji was sent, and glad he wasn’t sent to Amazon Lily!
lol he would have died from excessive bleeding even before he ever got turned to stone.
Rewatching this I realised Kuma took some time to know the crew members' skills.
I suppose all are rewatching but if you're not, spoiler alert:
For Zoro he already knew, so Mihawk.
For Brook he decided with his look, all boney, so a place he'll be accepted.
For Usopp he saw how he's using special items.
For Sanji, the kicks so okama kenpo.
For Franky, he saw how he had metal fist so Dr Vegapunk's hometown
For Nami, I suppose he knows she's a navigator.
Chopper as a doctor.
Robin to a place revolutionary army will go soon.
And Luffy to go learn Haki from the best Haki users country.
It's subtle and never mentioned but good representation from Goda sensei.
Wait why tf was bro ever at Amazon Lily?
🤨📸
luffy crying here breaks me over and over again, every time i watch it
Without exception!
No joke, Kuma is one of my favorite characters in the whole story, cool design, awesome characterization, and i believe the reason for him carrying a bible is symbolic of Kuma's own massive amount of faith in whatever crazy grand scheme he seems to be taking part in by seemingly "helping" the strawhats here, plus you'd have to have an immense amount of faith to willingly allow yourself to be turned into a machine as part of a plan that may not work anyways.
And thus, the beginning of the absolute wildest series of arcs this series has.

@@gameuniverse5973 AL is peak

"Should I root for Kuma???"
and that right there is what makes this scene so complex.
So many people just getting into One Piece have the luxury of knowing the story continues, but for those reading week to week in the manga, this is devastating because we had no idea if or how the whole crew would be reunited, or if it was just gonna be Luffy alone having to make a new crew.
Now you know why Moriah let their shadows go on Thriller Bark. He knew first hand, that compared to what Luffy is feeling now, death would be a kindness
To be fair moriah didn’t let the shadow go
Yeah, "let go" would not be the words I'd use.
Pretty sure we punched the living out of him and got him smooshed under the mansion.
tbf Moria also kinda foreshadowed what would happen to Luffy. He told them that he'll lose his entire crew because they are weak.
Honastly:
Even with hindsight and the full context behind that moment, it still hits right in the feels.
Can't we appreciate how much work he does to keep us entertained
I mean I appreciate it, but he is just watching anime in the comfort of an air conditioned room and then I assume editing the videos or maybe even hired an editor. I do like how he keeps track of all the lore and stuff, though. That is going the extra mile.
i was like, this man did not just repeat great googly moogly three times in a row lol
@@LiquidusSnakeX
I think it's a bit that just repeats this line in comment sections of random popular channels. At least it sounds like a bot
When that lady says "He's not very well endowed" it's referring to Luffys breast size, being that (most of them) have never seen a man they'd obviously have no reference point for the other kind of endowment.
Damn... Rewatching this after the latest chapter... And all I can say is damn...
True kuma goat
Happy Birthday, Bonney 🥲
Same reason I am here
It's a bittersweet feeling that I caught up to these reactions right in the middle of my favorite arcs. On one hand I get to experience it in real time, on the other I have to wait for every video.
Kuma was so OP at that point. One of the saddest moments in the series.
You know it’s not the end, but the first time I watched this, seeing and hearing Luffy in utter despair and panic at watching what he understands as the deaths of all his family completely destroyed me, man. This was the hardest hitting few minutes of all of one piece on my first go through.
That point felt like Luffy's bubble just burst, realizing being a pirate isn't just going on adventures but is also sacrificing everything you have at all times
Damn, seeing this right after reading the chapter that explains why Kuma did what he did makes it so much more impactful.
14:44 I hope you get to recall what you said during the last part of their fight with Moria cause that was such a nice prediction of his. The Straw Hats were far from ready for the New World and I was so happy when you reiterated that
Brook was with the crew for only one arc and than just gets separated from them after spending literally a week with them. 😂
These scenes hits hard cuz of how we see Luffy throughout their journey.
We are used to seeing the Danger Luffy puts himself and crew through. No matter what danger Luffy always pulls through.
This time there was no hope.
If you put yourself in Luffy's head space. He is failing not just his crew but his closest friends. Friends he himself adamantly invited to accompany him.
What first brought my tears after the shock and disbelief was when Nami called out to Luffy asking him to help her just like at Arlong Park then it was nothing but me in a sobbing mess😭😭😭
still remember watching this on my laptop and headphones with my parents in the room, trying and failing not to sob lmao
Jack: "are those other orbs his crew?"
Literally everyone who reacts to this say that the first time, idk why they keep forgetting that Kuma's fruit is PAW PAW fruit so the shape of his attack is in the form of a paw print XD
impressive how he nailed Kuma nearly down to a tee
These scenes with Kuma are so much better now than they were then. 😭
Ever since I first saw the separation of the straw hats crew, nami disappearing always hits me
Love your content - keep up the one piece episodes! It’s a treat to watch someone who actually stayed spoiler free to go through the straw hats adventures 🙌
One Piece knows when to pull punches and when not to in the best of ways. This devastating moment is cemented as one of One Piece's most powerful
IVE BEEN WAITINGGGGGGGG FOR THIS ONE! i remember bawling my eyes out while watching this. loveeeee u jack🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
The most heartbreaking moments I ever seen. Seeing the straw hats separating was so hurtful watching it.
This episode started it all for me. We had One Piece in our local TV when I was in the Middle School. The last episode I've watched was when they shot down the flag at Enies Lobby. I didn't watch One Piece for years after that. Then, one Sunday, I woke up earlier than usual, turned on the TV, and discovered that the same TV channel was airing One Piece again. It was the episode when Kuma "erased" them. I didn't know who Kuma was. I didn't know the context. I just knew that his crewmates were "dying" one-by-one. I felt devasted for Luffy. I jumped out of my couch after watching it and looked up on the Internet for the next episodes. I have watched the whole thing till I catch up to the lastest episode maybe 3 times now.
Don't worry, dude, Luffy just stretching, that don't hurt him.
Just realized Kuma sent Zoro to triller bark cuz he knew Zoro needed to not go far so he could make it back in time XD. Just send Zoro to the island next door that can also sail even closer if need be, cuz you know he'll manage to get lost for way more than 2 years otherwise.
I love that we r both currently on the same episodes cuz our emotions r exactly the same at the same time
Oh boy its this episode. Jack here wasnt ready
God, when I wasn't ready for this episode. Seeing Luffy break like that, for the first moment in his life question himself when before he was always confident, facing death with a grin, was gut wrenching.
I was waiting for the is ep since so long😢 the first time i cried in one piece
What about when the merry died?
"I want to live" and "Luffy, help me" are my 2 favorite scenes of Luffy and his crew
SUFFERED A COMPLETE COLLAPS.
i think i read this a few times the last months...
This was so hard to rewatch. Even knowing what comes next.
After brook started playing music i couldn't hold back tears
The second episode this video is actually super underrated ngl. Shows how powerless luffy is without his crew, later on we even see him take notes from Vivi
"most tight-lipped man" my butt xD
Also: Fun fact. Enel is currently just chilling on the moon with some aliens in his new empire
it's nice having the saddest scene and the "mushroom" pulling scene in one video
Jack your reactions are gonna make me start watching One Piece again 😭🤍
Note: Btw the mushroom part was so hilarious! I'm still laughing! 😂
Peak fiction😭
The hardest part of all of this is Luffy feeling like he wasn’t strong enough, they were so close to the new world.
It was so intense waiting through those filler, not knowing.
Time to go full full full throttle!
"I thought this was just going to be another peaceful episode." Back then, we thought so too 😂
that "we will never meet again" -Kuma . . . hits diff . . .
Zoro didn’t get teleported away by kuma, he just got lost again
It was the latest episode back when I watched this episode. It was the most devastating moment in anime for me. I felt Luffy's helplessness and desperation back then.
The only reason this arc’s conclusion didn’t hit me as hard as it did most people is that back when Skypiea aired I saw movie 6 with a similar scene and it broke me at the time.
Jack: "he's sending them anywhere on earth"
Me when i was watching this scene: crying "OMG are they dead"
Props to Kuma for doing this, so that The Straw hats can have 2 years of power up for The New World
I was emotional first time watching the episode ten years ago... .. But watching this reaction... I smiley😊
These episodes being paired together is so wild lmfao
When I saw you start crying I couldn’t help but cry as well. I’ll never not cry at this fucking series
You are at my favourite part of the anime! I have rewatched one piece from this episode many times over
Oh god the moment they pulled it, I also felt the pain 🤣
This is the first time I've seen THIS ep be the first of a two part, instead of the last. I like the break-up here instead, this is great
You guys are among my favorite reactors these days!
This was the only one peice moment that made me cry
I like how the show goes from utter dread and despair to funny ‘guy parts’ joke in the span of two episodes… 😂
What other piece of media was brave enough to take the existing cast of protagonists and have them suffer a tremendous loss, pretty much killing them, and then only focus on the main character for the foreseeable future? Oda was pretty ballsy to go ahead with this plan.
and this is only the beginning of his pain....
Luffy eating those laughing mushrooms to cheer him up, the person who can laugh anytime easily, He was broken
I literally cry everytime I watch these episodes
I’ll never be able to watch this without crying apparently. After all these years, the 100 times I’ve seen it, I still can’t. And I remember there’s a different translation to the narration, but not how it went. The straw hat crew was annihilated or wiped out. Something like that.
You won't see the reunion for more than 100 episodes, but I promise it's totally worth it.
True, but the worst heart ache is yet to come before then.
After all these years, these eps still make me cry and emotional. Ugh One Piece goat!!
I believe this is where I caught up with one piece
With just like 2-4 ep ahead of it.
I was crying thinking it was truly going to end with just luffy fighting for his life. Or something else.
Those were the days I felt sick to even go forward to next ep.
After all this years that episode is still the best episode of one piece anime.
the next few episode kinda creeps me out, because you can see how much luffy is trying to cope with his grief of being separated from his friends, he's all fidgety, twitching every small interaction and there's just something about the way he smile and laugh just feel uncanny to me
And this begins the harem arc
Captain Jack: You Miss the Critical Moment Where Luffy Actually Turned into THE Meme
Funnily enough the bubbles popping isn't a metaphor it's just the crew fly so fast through the bubble we can't see em
"Oh my god, there is no way Duval is the first thing I see after that" LMAO, that had me rolling
Man's not ready for hancock
Told y’all he wasn’t ready
At 17:25 I thought of him landing at wonder woman's home
17:16 bro said this place is awesome from heart xD
When i saw how close you were to this episode i knew i had to catch up on your reactions
One Piece has sort of taught me by accident that there aren't really many stakes most of the time.
Characters can tank insane hits and be basically fine afterward. Anytime someone gets hit with an attack I'm like "Eh, they're fine" and 99% of the time they are indeed fine. There's just not much impact a lot of the time.
This was similar for the first 3/4 strawhats. I knew they were alive... somewhere, and that they'd all return. But then I shifted my focus.
I started viewing the scene from Luffy's perspective. He doesn't know what's going on. For all he knows his friends are permanently lost or even dead, and all those relationships and his journey to become the pirate King end here. He thinks he's losing just about everything important to him. And to him, this happens because he wasn't good enough. Even though he didn't do anything wrong.
And then he breaks down in what to me is the most relatable way I've seen depicted in fiction. That sort of flailing where you want to lash out but whatever you do it's not enough because your body's movement is restricted - either by some physical barrier like the ground in Luffy's case, or just by your body's inability to move in the way you want it to.
I almost cried. Which may not sound big to some people but only one thing in fiction has ever made me actually cry, so yes that's an insane achievement. Incredible episode.
Bro I just subscribed yesterday, I didn't know you were gonna get to this part immediately after 😭
the magic of oda, i watched this eps in total of like a hundred times from the anime, yt and tiktok.... but i am still crying.
This is when Oda said "The Hell with Plot armor"
Luffy going g2 and punching kumas hand is one of the best impact frames/action shots in whole series. You can hear the oomph of the impact when he punches kumas paw pads.
This is one of the saddest episodes in one piece.
I agree heavily. Even though the Straw Hats are severely assisted here by Kuma, it's still heartbreaking to watch Luffy lose his crew in front of his eyes one by one and simply break at the end of it.
Kudos to Jack for putting the puzzle pieces together. I've seen other reactors not getting the bubble popping symbolism, or the manga reactors spoiling the anime reactors because the anime-onlys were going to throw stuff at the screen they were so mad at Kuma.
Luffy definitely hit the Jackpot, and Sanji would be super jealous.
