okay their not freakin emo posers first off and just because they sing about people they love and emotional things dont make them filfthy emos secondly ben gibbard is prob the straightest man alive... he married zooey deschannel for christs sake
well oddly enough, im not twelve. it just doesnt make much sense to say that a guy sucks, but then say "no offense to any billy bragg fans" haha. if you dont mean any offense, i would just not say it, but whatever. plus to say that billy bragg "sucks" is just false, you can say you dont like him, but not that he sucks. if he sucks he would not have been chosen to put music to woody guthrie songs, an honor in itself; if he sucked he would not have been able to tour with bands like wilco and rem.
O man they took a great song and made it suck ...... they call it "indie" (a marketing term) i want to call it emo though.... still its cool they like Bragg i guess, I should like that and mabye not be such a snob
The original Billy Bragg version of this song is excellent. Unfortunately, Ben Gibbard's whiny, morose delivery sucks any remaining life out of it. As Billy would say, "Fuckin' saddo!"
as in "had he seen it" i don't know maybe he has ... if your reading this billy :D hey! lol my ex asked me if i wanted to go see him in cardiff next month
@P10videos The whole concept of 'emo' is messed. Are we saying all songs and bands before the likes of Hawthorne Heights, etc weren't emotional? Emotion is inherent in music from its very beginning- blues, punk, jazz, rock, music is emotional. I love typically labelled 'emo' bands- Death Cab (why people call them emo has confused me for years), Thrice (again), Dashboard Confessional but I reject the labelling of music as being exclusively 'emo'.
@jaishalattacks I think emo means music that is not just made to dance to, but has meaningful and emotional lyrics. Today, emo is also labeled as following those criteria and also requiring that the music have a degree of indie in it.
The term "emo" is so corrupted these days. People refer to bands as "emo" even when they aren't truly emo. DCFC is a true emo band, Union Station (or whatever) is not.
@GJ3200 well that's kind of the point about a cover. it's not meant to be an exact copy, and it would be weird for DCFC to do the song in the style of Bragg.
Never listened to anything by Death Cab before, and very pleasantly impressed. The singer has a great voice. I hear a faint echo of Feargal Sharkey in that slight vibrato which is most welcome.
Every time I want to hate this band, they pull out a cover of a song that I never would have expected - Freedy Johnson, Billy Bragg.....Gotta give these guys credit...............
12 years later....Its from Billy Braggs album DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. My first time hearing Death Cab cover it...but I used to cover it in various Seattle pubs with a friend back in the 90s
ben is quite ugly but has a great voice and great guitar skills good for him and actually sounds better than billy bragg...that guy sucks lol no offense to any billy bragg fans just my opinion
What do you mean "would have"? He's not dead.
okay their not freakin emo posers first off and just because they sing about people they love and emotional things dont make them filfthy emos secondly ben gibbard is prob the straightest man alive... he married zooey deschannel for christs sake
this is so strange, I love Billy Bragg, and to see them do a cover of this song is so weird.
such a great cover of a great song!

Yep. I was skeptical of anyone covering this classic. But you good job. 🏭
HAVE A LITTLE CRY ABOUT IT.
mainstream doesnt have to be a bad thing. it's not like as soon as a band beomes popular their music becomes obsolete.
as in "had he seen it" i don't know maybe he has ... if your reading this billy :D hey! lol my ex asked me if i wanted to go see him in cardiff next month
well im sorry bout the republican thing, it was sort of a joke; i saw your name was lbjhater and figured you were a conservative.
is this a billy bragg one?
Pretty lifeless compared to the original. Doesn't do anything new, or interesting.
well hes doing pretty well...hes married to zoe deschanel...babe
he has a very unique voice.
So you're suggesting that Death Cab is emo?
Pwn
grow up.

Ben (the singer) also has done a fantastic cover of St. Swithin’s Day
I wouldn't call them emo, they don't scream or cry. They sing about emotional things.

Does anyone have this version, i don't know where to find it.
