This is my first 7 string, and it's also my first guitar of this price range. I got a demo guitar, in the black finish. It plays and feels like a dream come true. Its definitely a person to person guitar. Also wonderful review!

Cheers for the honest review. I was thinking of getting one of these as my first 7 string as there are a few deals on them at the moment but think I'll keep looking.
Think some of the negatives would bug me.
Absolutely right about the bag/case in this price range.

There are a few 7s in the same price range that will give you plenty of choices and options. The charvel is not bad, but it also may not be what people are looking for or expecting.

10:00 the pearlescent paint makes the sanding imperfections stand out a lot more than regular paint would. But as you say, they could put more effort into the sanding, and priming.

The Finish on mi nova is spot on. Not rough at all. I agree on the tuners. I swapped mine out to gold goth locking tuners. Did not have to shim my neck. I had to rout the back of the cavity because the tremolo springs were rubbing on the body. Other than that in pretty happy with it.

Totally agreed with the case/gig bag comment. Epiphone actually gives out hard case with guitars cheaper than this one but yeah its not an apple to apple comparison..anyway, looking forward to get mine and hoping the guitar will be everything that I hopes it would be

Definitely not my quickest or most right to the point review.

Hey Joey, love your vids, can you comment on what you think of scale lengths in regards to 7 strings? In my experience, regardless of string gauges used, I experience a much deeper voice from the guitars I've played with a 26.5" scale vs 25.5", those with 25.5" tend to sound like my 6 strings whereas 26.5 has a noticeably different quality. That has been the deciding factor for me in the past, even though I thought the Rg752ahm was superior in nearly every way to the KM7 I kept the km7 for its noticeable difference in tone from the rest of my 6s... I no longer have that guitar but am now with my first Strandberg and I am experiencing the case where it's not giving that deep sound I got from the Km7 or my other 7 I currently have, the PRS Holcomb. Thinking guages have some sort of factor into it but I've had 11-64s on a 25.5" 7 string and noticed it didn't add too much.

Ooft. That's a big question. So, yeah, longer scale length is going to give you better bass response, but, it also depends on construction. The KM7 I believe is neck through, the strandberg and Ibanez are bolt on, so will be snappier tone even with a longer scale length. Think Les Paul to Strat. Strats are longer scale length, but often single coils, bolt on and with trem systems all adding to that higher end snap. Scale length is just ONE part of it, with all the other factors mattering too. Generally I change my amp and patch settings to accommodate each different guitar. Hope that helps!

@@guitarnerdjoey1192 Thanks Joey that definitely does help. And makes sense too. The only exception I can think of with guitars that I’ve played is the Larada Legion 7 which is also bolt on but has insane bass response. I couldn’t tell what strings are on it but they’re thinner than the 11-64s I tried on another guitar. My Strandberg has Abasi’s fishman fluence pickups as does the Larada but the lower end is so apart from them both. I’ll have to try tampering with amp settings and see how I can get the Strandberg to sound.

@@fishermanryan I love a good Larada, my J series is my number one for sure. But even then, different construction. Headstock, different hardware and even the way the body is shaped it could give it bigger bass response. Heck, even the pickup height will matter. Scale length helps a bit too though, and the Laradas do go all the way out to 27.2 inches on the low B string, so it will certainly impact it.

@@guitarnerdjoey1192 Yeah Laradas are really cool. I’m currently going back and forth between my Strandberg standard 7 with abasi fishmans and a friend’s Larada Legion with the same pups, and it just is so shocking how even with the same pickups they sound so different. More bottom end and clarity on the Larada, and I’m using that as a reference to try and get my Strandberg sounding as close as I can before I return the Larada to my friend. I noticed that even though the Larada is a 7 string it has 8 string pups. And oddly, I’m hardly noticing a difference with the push pull pot on the Strandberg. I bought it used w/ the pups as an upgrade and am overall really happy with it just want to get it sounding more like the Larada with the variables that I can change even though I understand there are some I cannot. I’ve tried adjusting pickup height and didn’t really get anywhere with that and next I’ll try Strandbergs optimized string guage for the 7…

@@fishermanryan Tone chasing is something we do forever and a day.
But just a small correction there, the fishmans on the Larada are 7 string ones, they are just the oversize ones for multiscale guitars. A wider soapbar, where as if your Strandberg is the trem optioned 7 string then the pickups will be the straight ones, and sized to fit a normal humbucker route. Just on that, if you strandberg is a trem version, that will be the vast majority of difference in tone right there with the much larger mass of metal in the trem system impacting tone more than the scale length would.
