Just after entering freeway and getting up to speed, this line of vehicles approaches stopped/slowed traffic on freeway. A delayed reaction from one of the cars results in a heavy rear end crash. Sth Coast NSW

Unfortunately everyone knows what happens when you leave a five-car gap...you will quickly find five cars in there!
A bit like when I leave a 1 car gap, and still 2 cars force their way in and then brake check, because I am so close, and how dare I?
If someone moves into your gap, then you drop back again, and you lose a couple of seconds out of your trip. It's not a big deal. And no, it doesn't constantly happen. I follow at 2 seconds, and it doesn't happen to me. The idea that people will keep moving into your gap is something that people tell themselves to justify their bad habits. And in any case, most people change lanes only because they need to. If I let someone change lanes, then I have done something nice.
Remember when we actually used to drive the car? Seems to be a lost art
That's why you need a decent following distance. The cammer was following at 1 second and managed not to crash, but only just. A lot of people follow at half a second. They will crash for sure. We are told to follow at 2 seconds in good conditions, and more in bad conditions. Maybe driving into the sun counts as bad conditions.
That's why you need to say off the phone, as well.
Three in fact.
I was taught by my grandad and he said 1car length for every 10km of speed. Never had an issue following that on highways or anything over 60km/h. Sure you can't do it in town or in the suburbs but even half a car length per 10km of speed and you're in a much better position to reaction.
@@Jezato At 100 ks that's about 50 metres or less than 2 seconds.
Ideally I count 3 Bananas, 2.5 Bananas should be minimum even in good conditions...
Tailgating, will get you everytime.
OUCH! eyes forward
Right up the clacker haha
Unbelievable, and its not even a busy freeway..
100kms per hour is 27 meters per second
Slow down, you Goose. Now it is going to take even longer to get there
must be the sun
All I can say is 5 Car distance (100klm), and don't rely on the chump in front for working brake lights...
A five car distance at 100 km/h is 0.8 seconds. That's not much.
slow vehicles/stopped traffic ahead on the highway is a hazard. use your hazard lights when you see it then start to slow down.
Oh well.
dont they have eyes? 'oh look a car stopped in the middle of the road......Ill just keep going'
WTF?
so of course, despite being able to both move, they decide to pull over where the barrier is, rather than go a few hundred metres further to a nice wide shoulder...
braindead in all regards.
always ALWAYS 4 seconds or more, or 2 car lengths, three if you don't have ABS.
reaction time is limited and if you're tired or distracted or daydreaming, it's even more limited.
also try to be aware of those behind as they may be air heads too
“4 seconds or more, or 2 car lengths”? Somethings not adding up….
Driving at 100 km/h converts to travelling at 28 metres per second.
So 4 seconds or more >= 112 metre gap
2 car lengths = approx. 5m x 2 = 10 metres = approx. 0.36 of a second gap
@@WS_00you forgot to include
“always ALWAYS” (40 / 100 zones) into your calculations
that’s why your answer was wrong
