Luther's and other Christian's view on Jews were not racist in the same way as the Nazi's, but religious. If a Jew converted he was a Christian, not a Jew. They might be suspicious that he wasn't sincere and secretly kept his old religion but there was no need to keep the race "clean".
His first treaty was with the Catholic church. He was Catholic. He gave free reign over education and his birthday was celebrated at the pulpit until 1964. The Vatican was complicit in it all.
