  • Marcus Cartwright and Adam Gussow jam on Jimmy Reed's "You Don't Have to Go" at the 2015 Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Cartwright was sitting in with the Blues Doctors; this is the first time he and Gussow had played together.

I worked for the phone company and was working out of Harlem from 1990 to 2000. For a short while I was stationed out of our building on 125th st. across from the State building and Adam Clayton Powell blvd (I think) where Satan and Adam played. I was privileged to hear them on many occasions and realize now I was watching history in the making.

taxfree4 : Yes, we played directly across the street from the State Office Building. We played through 1991, I believe, but when Giuliani swept all the street vendors off the street--which is when the African Market was created down on 116th--we got swept off, too. We played a few more times in other locations, including 145th and Broadway and down around Times Square, but that was pretty much it for Harlem. We played right in front of the phone company; that was our spot.

This has good rhythm. Love that kind of fast paced blues.

I have very fond memories of that time there; having lunch at Woolworth's along that serpentine counter and listening to you and Satan were definitely the most outstanding, good food and great music what more could a guy want. Thank you for the response, it was a nice surprise.

Wow! Adam, you and Marcus hit the groove right off the bat. It'd be good to see more of you together, hopefully on June 25!

perhaps the other fellow could've sang instead; both are great on their instruments though
