    Manufacturers have been making washers for decades, you would think that by now they could come up with a washer you can get the washplate and tub out without issues. Crappy way to make a living

    These air bags work. Try it before destroying things. A bear to get under the lip of the agitator but once you're in, keep your head out of the way. Look for a box of four bags. Same price as three individuals.

    LG solution. use 2 flat bar nail pullers on spider. on wash plate leave screw in but 3 turn out and pry across top of screw to edge of hole. also a cheap harbor freight gear puller. reversable teeth? put silacone grease on all parts. good luck

    I had a five year old washer like this and removed the agitator plate yesterday. I tried pounding it, liquid wrench penetrant, tools that let me get under the plate and pull straight up, the citric hot water wash and it absolutely would not bulge. Finally I noticed that the agitator fins stick up high enough that they can be struck laterally. I decided to try loosening with a rotational force since I could not get it to budge with a vertical force. I started rapping one of the fins left right left right with a rubber face shot mallet. After a couple of minutes I could see the agitator was rotating slightly left and right relative to the shaft with each stroke. The rust bond had loosened and I was able to reach in and just pull the agitator off by hand.

      I saw your comment a few days ago, thought agitation does something similar, had a customer with a ge stack,
      Had to pull the adjitater, tried the hammer back and forth because my air tank was at home, no Bueno on this one, returned today, used the airbags, came up ok...

    Hello. OK, FOllow the bouncing ball here, this is not that difficult. FIrt, remember the splines that connect the wash plate to the transmission are ! Prying up on ANY side of the plate only makes things worse since it pinches the splines together and all manner of yankiing on the edges simply tightens the two splines even more! Here is the best way that worked perectly for me: First, once you remove the center bolt, pour either heated white vinegar or a good spray of BLASTER around the bolt hole making certain it gets into the splie area. Let that soak in for at least an hour. Next, gently tap all around the center collar of the plate including tapping both sides of each impeller vane. NOT TOO HARD, just enough to break any corrosion between the two splie parts...make and female. Probably should NOT hit down onto where the bolt was...that will only further jam the splines together. Not good. Now, take a GOOD pair of channel locks, tightly grip anywhere around the top edge of the bolt collar (the raised circle that surrounds the bolt), and yank up. Voila, it should come right out but make certain you pull it STRAIGHT UP and not torqued to one side of the other. All the other methods only worked againsT you. And when you are ready to replace the impeller or wash plate, make certain you take a good brass brush and clean out the splines as much as you can to remove any loose corrosion. Take a tooth brush soaked in blaster or WD40 to clean out the inside of the plate spines. Then, coat both splines with a good Anti Seize lubricant (Permatex is a good choice in the gray tube). Replace the wash plate or agitator and exercise up and down gently to evenly better distribute the lubricant. You are done. Relplace the bolt with the BLUE Lock Tite lubricant. Now if you need to remove it at a future date, repeating the above provess will allow the plate to be removed easily if even you need to do that. And no, the lube will not stain your clothes. It is fully encapsulated by the tight fit of the two splices. Enjoy.. Dr. Z (Lou)

    Love it!!! Thank you for giving me permission to use a hammer! I tried the string approach first to no avail. The hammer worked though!

    Use vise grips on one side and a 45 degree pick in a hole on the other side and it will pull right out. Not hard at all

      Probably 60% of these are truly stuck, won't come out that way, I started off trying to pry these out when I first got into appliance repair, found out pretty quick that only works in rare occasions.

    Hope this helps, these are one of the most frustrating problems I've dealt with in appliance repair, I noted I said the bags provide 300 psi, lol, 300 lbs of lift overall not psi, take care family..

    the cost of 4 air bags is same as a new agitator plate, what's the point?

    • @foreverendeavors6210

      @majorrgeek three* airbags are cheap at harbor freight, Amazon, my opinions and channel are aimed more at techs doing appliance repair on a daily basis, anyone can check this out then decide how they want to proceed weather it be in the case of a homeowner situation, or professional as prescribed...

    I had a man come to attempt to remove this plate. Tried everything. He , Couldn’t do it. Had to pay him for service fee but no repair. Lost my money plus time from work. Just gonna get a new washer with a longer warranty.

      I had 1 a few months ago that even this method wouldn't remove, in that case you split the wash plate in half, and use a puller to remove the steel splined insert from the shaft, still a reasonable repair, the wash plates are around 75$, sad they left it on there.

    How do you even get the bags in?

  • @williamanderson4681
    @williamanderson4681 2 роки тому +1

    Only works if the plate is half way off. ??? And if its that loose just use some penetrating oil and wiggle it. 36 years experience speaking.

    • @foreverendeavors6210
      @foreverendeavors6210  2 роки тому +1

      There are 3, 300lb lift bags under it, had to pry up the edge to get them under it, then had to pound on it, you would have had a 36 year experience trying to wiggle this one off by hand with wd40..
      When the drive block strips out the basket rests lower, thats why the retaining clip broke in half also, looks like the wash plate is up a little, but it's not...

      Thank you @williamanderson4681! I used nylon twine under the agitator attached to a 2 X4 and kept turning the 2 x4 to pull up the agitator without success. I then added boiling water down the center where the hole was, and following your suggestion of penetrating oil, I alternated every 5 minutes between boiling water and BLASTER PB. I just went into the laundry room to reposition the twine to another area under the agitator. I turned the 2 x 4 and the agitator POPPED off the shaft!!! Thank you so much!
      This is a 31-year-old washer and it is pretty gunky along the inside neck of the agitator. I am cleaning it up now after removing what's left of my rosary beads in the drum under my agitator. SUCCESS!
      Thank you Forever Endeavors for this helpful video!
