I'm so proud of you, lady! I know that mental health combined with nail polish isn't widely spoken about, but it is a really important conversation to have. I had my polish reckoning last month when I was moving into my new place...I realized that I don't want 500 bottles of nail polish. I decided that I'm comfortable with one shoe box full of each season of polish. I've got spring, summer, and autumn more than covered...I just have winter and holidays, and now that I'm on my low/no buy I'm determined to stick to my goal. Today, was a bit of challenge with PPU opening up, but I stuck to my two rewind polishes (Wildflower Lacquer "Geralt Can Have All My Coins" and KB Shimmer "Rise Up"). I love doing my nails. I spent three years learning how to keep my nails super healthy, so now I want to spend time learning about polish application and technique. I'm going to pick up the nail desk I showed you and a few other nail related items like an electric polish shaker and a lamp with magnifier...keep to my low/no buy and enjoy my passion for polish. I don't want to ruin my love of polish through compulsive behavior, you know? There are a couple of collections from Mooncat that I may one day get, but for right now I'm focused on being content. :)
@@lisabartz2719 yes! I'm also doing things to keep my love for polish alive without actually buying nail polish!

Good for you for addressing this. I know others struggle with going over budget limits! I have been there. We can only wear so much. I also love supporting all of the small businesses, but even then, I can't possible afford it all. I don't feel bad anymore if I can't grab a polish from a new release anymore. ♡♡
That's a great mindset to have. I'm going to try to adopt this into my own way of thinking around polish. I was so freaked out about missing out for June's PPU that it was stressing me out. Nail polish is supposed to be a fun hobby for me...a unique way for me to do something creative for myself and a way for me to take a timeout a couple times each week to self-care...I'm going to make this my focus. Thanks for sharing wisdom. :)

@@lisabartz2719 it took me some time to come to this, but yes, polish should be FUN. It definitely got to the point where I was stressing, and I was thinking, this isn't right. Had to reevaluate my hobby.. do I want to be a collector or a wearer. I do not have the space to be a collector & that is not what I got into polish for. ♡♡

@@hollyb3rri3s Very well stated. I also have other hobbies that I really enjoy and I don't want to be consumed by any of them. Balance is part of healthy living. For my polish, I want to be a wearer. For my vinyl collection, I want to be a listener. For my joy of life, I want to care for my cats and plants. :) For my love of reading, I'll maintain my kindle unlimited subscription. :)
I really appreciate this video. I need to buy less too, impulse buying is directly effected by my mental health. It really helps when you and Linry have talked about mental health and connections with buying. It feels less stigmatized and less lonely.

It takes a lot of strength to seek help, so that is awesome that you are getting it and that you have a diagnosis that can help you see patterns in how you act or react. I totally relate to the imposter syndrome. I think the limited editions and sites like PPU encourage impulse purchases and I'm definitely not immune. In yesterday's order, I REALLY wanted Great Lakes Lacquer Come Again, but I had to make some cuts. My mind was telling me I would never be able to get it. Later in the day, I saw some new release swatches from Victorian Varnish. One of them looks to be nearly identical to Come Again. Hugs. You got this!

i know it can be hard having bipolar disorder (my husband has one). we always discuss our orders with each other, so everyone can point it out to the other if it's a bit too much (as a form of protection, not criticism).
a destash can be very liberating 🙂 i had about 300 nail polishes a few years ago and reduced them to 100. i often bought nail polishes that my mother, sister, sister-in-law might like if i did their nails. i don't do that anymore 😊 i've allowed myself to be a little cuckoo this year when i buy nail polish 😅 i don't normally buy that much 😄
@@couchpotatolovespolish I do that too!! I do my nieces & friends nails, so I pick up polish that they may like too!
@@TiffanyFord_13 i'm sure if you only buy polishes you love, they will find something they will like to wear 🙂 my mom has her own polishes (mostly pinks and reds) but she started trying blues and greens (from my collection) and she loves it so much that she start buying polishes in that color for herself 😊

Thanks for sharing all this, Tiffany. And I will say that late June/July has been such a mashup of so many sales, my head is spinning! You're doing good on your mindfulness journey - I applaud you! I just started entering all my polishes into a spreadsheet, and weirdly it's giving me so much joy, because I revisit them again in my mind. I did not expect that!☺💜
@@lunarules1 that's what I'm hoping it'll do for me too!! It's such an overwhelming task but I'm telling myself that I don't have a deadline, I can go as soon as I want lol
@@TiffanyFord_13 Yes! I started by cataloging what I've pulled out to wear on my nails every time I change my manicure, and then also cataloguing any new purchases as they come in (is my plan)...and sometimes something I'm wearing, or I've bought, will remind me of something else in a similar collection/finish and I go pull that out and log its info. And yes, no deadline, no rush, just inputting whatever data you decide you want for each polish. I've been using the free "MS Office-like" tools from Open Office (by Apache) for my spreadsheet. I like it, it works similar to Excel, but not being an Excel master myself (despite using it sometimes at work), I find myself looking up how to do things on Google or UA-cam, and so far I've found everything I'm searching for, sometimes with a bit of digging. Now I've got my spreadsheet dialed in, and formatted kind of cute, and I really like it. ☺💜
@@TiffanyFord_13 Yes you can go as slowly as you wish. There's no rush, and I hope you grow to enjoy the process bit by bit, as I have. 💜💜💜
This is so relatable to me. I’ve been having such an awful, stressful week, or more like month. And I have spent so much. I have literally spent like $350 (Canadian) in July and it’s only day 5. I bought 4 from PPU today, plus 4 of the secondary polishes from the maker sites, plus a few of the Polished for Days recent collection. And I bought some stamping polishes while a site was having a sale. I’m overwhelmed and embarrassed and very obviously using it as a coping mechanism. So I am really trying to cool it after this, and like you said, be more mindful. ❤
@@rparstar I use it as a coping mechanism too. But we got this! Usually if I had already spent a lot, id just continue spending bc fck it but you've realized it & are aware of it! That's so good!!
Thanks for sharing and kudos to you for addressing this. I think that many can relate. I’m not bi-polar but I do, admittedly, have a nail polish obsession that I need to keep in check. I tell myself that I’m a nail polish enthusiast in an effort to not exhibit obsessive behavior. It’s a process. Nail polish makes me happy and it’s a hobby I thoroughly enjoy so I really have to keep the urge to have everything not take over. You can do this! Acknowledging this is a great first step and you are not alone. Well wishes for you! My budget for fun expenses this month, whether they be nail polish, or something else is $100. So far! So good but it’s only July 6th…

My collection has gotten ridiculous since I started actively collecting ~13 years ago and I know it's probably over 4000 (maybe over 5K, I'm scared to count). I am so overwhelmed by my collection right now that I've almost stopped buying completely. I will only buy polish now if I'm certain I don't already have polishes that are similar. I really want to cut my collection in half but the thought of doing a destash is so daunting!
@@KzooBeerGirl it really is! Do you plan on selling them bc that's even more daunting.
Yes, that's the daunting part! I already have ~600-700 pulled out and in destash bins just gathering dust. The thought of photographing and listing them and then putting together orders, etc. All of it seems like so much work!
