Finessed Analyzer, you are probably used to pro scoring where they score Mayweather or Andre Ward slaps in order to help the hometown American star fighter win. In the amateurs I believe they actually go by the rule book, which says that the punch has to land with the knuckles to be a scoring blow. Dirrell slapped a lot and hit GGG on the side of the head. The one jab Teddy Atlas says landed and snapped GGG's head back, but didn't score, actually missed. It went by GGG's left ear and hit his head gear on the side. GGG's head snapped back and to the right from that impact to the headgear on the side, as well as his natural motion to avoid the jab. Don't be fooled by biased commentary. GGG on the other hand picked his moments better to throw real, hard, knuckle punches. _Clean_ and effective punches are what are _supposed_ to score the most in the pros, and what _do_ count in the amateurs. That was GGG all day. If you want a good parallel to this fight, check out Lomachenko vs Gary Russell. Russell was a little faster, like Dirrell, and threw lots of flashy combinations and arm punches, but the harder, better set-up, much cleaner punches were landed by Lomachenko almost every round. This fight between Dirrell and GGG was closer than that, because the speed disparity was much greater and Dirrell was much bigger, but it's still the same idea in effect. GGG was the rightful winner of this fight, in my opinion.
Thank you! I appreciate it! By the way, what do you make of GGG in this fight vs the Canelo fight? Am I the only one who feels like GGG's reflexes have slowed significantly from the Dirrell fight in the amateurs to the Canelo fight now, or do you notice that as well?
Golovkin clearly won the fight, the scoring was not perfect, but the result was about right. Dirrell had a few punches not counted, but not enough to affect the result. The American commentators were obviouly biased towards Dirrell, so only pointed out punches landed by him that didn't score, but Golovkin also landed a few that weren't scored. Golovkin was holding at the end, because he knew he was winning and just needed to close out the fight. Dirrell, his team, and the commentators didn't make any complaints about the final result, because they knew he lost it.
I like how Dirrell said that Golovkin was holding, when he in fact initiated every single clinch in the fight. i don't understand how anyone sees golovkin holding.
People dont realise that GGG secret is staying just a few inches aways and constantly putting the pressure of him being so close but not close enough to hit. And his head movement adds to it with his parrying the shots
phantomelmisj Greatest amateur of all time, gots to be Teofilio Stevenson, 3 Olympic golds, should have won a 4th. Power, speed, slickness. I think he's a Muhamed Ali with more power, cuz he knocked out more guys in the amateurs than Ali did in the pros. History would have changed had he fought as a pro for sure.
Ok maybe people don't understand how it's scored. You have to hit with the WHITE part of the glove to score a point. Dirrell was slapping quite abit. Plus the shot must be clean and effective otherwise it doesn't count. And 3rd you have to consider where the judges are sitting, so if one judge see's a punch land but 2 others don't, then it doesn't count. A flaw in the amateur scoring system to be honest.
People saying Dirrell got robbed but neither the commentators nor Dirrell or his team looked too salty about decision - even if you discounted two shots from GGG and gave Dirrell two more shots like the commentators called it it would have been 21/20 in favor of GGG.
There's a lot of punches that GGG landed also, that they didn't give him credit for. The announcers are pro American so they will keep in mind not to mention it. It has to be a solid punch, knuckles landing.
Dirrell is a lightning-fast, good boxer with a few inches of height and reach on GGG, yet GGG landed the harder, straighter punches, avoided or blocked nearly all of Dirrell's punches and outpointed him. And this was in the amateurs, which usually puts slower, power punchers at a disadvantage. This example, along with GGG's amateur world championship and record tells me that he has very, very good skills to go along with his power. He has good defense but just hasn't needed to use it much as a pro (he used it well against Curtis Stevens, though, when he needed to). His style should mean he will be a much better pro than amateur, and he was one of the best amateurs ever. He is the real deal. Still don't know if he could beat Andre Ward (I slightly favor Ward...he is the real deal also), but anyone who thinks the answer is simple is deluding themselves. I would LOVE to see that fight!
TheAtheistReader Ward beats him. I really couldn't tell the difference between him and Dirrell and Teddy said they didn't score some blows for Dirrell. Amateur/Olympic style should favor Dirrell though so he has no one but himself to blame.
+TheAtheistReader I think GGG offers too much patience, timing and explosive punching for ward to deal with. Gennady can really step up the pace when he has to and that's what he would use to walk ward down to the ropes and body him.
TheAtheistReader, that's true, but GGG actually looked pretty fast in this fight. Now in 2017, 13 years later, when he is 35 years old, he does not look nearly as fast to me. But I agree, prime GGG, especially in the pros, would have been a problem for almost anyone, and his great performances in the amateurs, despite having the exact opposite style of what most succeeds in the amateurs, proves that. In fact I'm not sure how many other power punchers have been able to outbox the best fighters a weight class above them in the amateurs. It's very telling because as you said, the amateurs are suited to Dirrell's style, not GGG's, and yet GGG was able to beat Dirrell, a weight class above his own, at Dirrell's own game. Just imagine what it would have looked like in the pros, prime GGG against a middleweight Dirrell. Damn!
Direll got robbed smh , an Olympic robbery get me more pissed than a pro robbery. You weight 4 years for the tournament, and have to quilify also before to even go after chasing it your whole childhood them they rob you and it's all over. They gave credit to golovkin for throwing straights to the body but direll landing 3 punches at a time no credit smh
Thw judges completely fucked up the scoring. Dirrell landed ao many shots that thwy didnt count and they counted blocked shots and shots that barely landed for golovkin
***** The thing is , GGG is not a big middleweight . He's pretty small actually . He could easily make 154 ,but 168 will be a serious challenge for him IMO . Most of those guys are considerably bigger than he is .
***** WARD HAS A FIGHT IN FIVE WEEKS. These Gaynady fangirls are so fkn scared of Ward. Ward approached Gaynady's promoter just this month at the #MayPac fight. Find the YT video before you respond.
DoomCity202 GGG just weighed in at 165 a week before his fight. He was 170+ pounds for the 30-day weigh-in. Let's stop with the "GGG is so small" thing.. The only reason Golovkin is looking at fighting Welterweights like Floyd is for the money. The reality is that there are FAR more fights for Golovkin at 168/175: Golovkin/Ward. Golovkin/Stevenson Golovkin/Fonfara Golovkin/Chavez Golovkin/Kovalev Golovkin/Dirrell Can you name five equivalent fights for GGG at 160?
They robbed Direll plain and simple. But the olympics have a history of robbing blacks so it's no surprise. It's all good Andre, you're a world champ now and you beat cancer. You got the last laugh and came out the real winner.
These next Olympics will be very interesting. As the scoring has changed to a 10-9 system almost like the pros. Just not getting 2 points for a knockdown and no head gear as well. But dirrel didn't get alot of credit for punches he landed clean and made GGG head snap back.
Golovkin won rather clearly in my book. Dirrell looked like he got shook up in the first half when he felt the power. He couldn't keep GGG away and tried to bully him. Would get KO'ed in a pro fight.
Yeah the judges did f up but they didn't count close to half of the shots Golovkin had landed. Dirrell landed about 5 or 6 they didn't count while Golovkin had about 12 or 13 that weren't counted.
Be butthurt about this if you want, but listen to what Dirrell's own comments after the fight "He fought smart, I take nothing away from him", sure the point system is a little iffy, but GGG won this fight as a matter of fact.
Dirrell wasn't robbed. at :24 seconds when the commentator said "he only got one credit for that" he went from 9 points to 11, two credits. GGG smothered a lot of Dirrells punches by meeting his attack and stopping clean shots. Remember the white part of the glove at the front of the glove has to make contact for it to score.
Asyk aMan you just made yourself sound completely stupid. those are the athen games. they fought at middleweight. as a matter of fact golovkin never fought at 168 of his life. only light middleweight and middleweight.
You should watch the fight again then. Golovkin had about half of his punches not counted for(12) most of them in the 2nd & 3rd round while Dirrell was had like 4 or 5 that weren't counted for. Dirrell was clearly outclassed & didn't let his hands go.
i am a golovkin, but I am not sure about this one. judges missed to score for BOTH of them, not only direll. so it's difficult to make a statement. maybe G really won it, maybe not. it looks really close , hard to pick a winner.
even here GGG was able to cut the ring well and this video is old. Imagine if the head gear was taken off. man I actually want to see this fight in the pros. GGG vs Dirrell lets do this!!!!!
Golovkin's very fan friendly, cant wait to see him fighting the likes of Martinez, Pirog and Geale. I cant see Arum putting Chavez jr in with this big hitter, Arum will keep on milking the Mexican fans that follow because of race rather than ability. True Mexican fans will love Golovkin as he fights in the traditional Mexican style really excited about this boxer & i'm not even East European.
***** Shows what you know about boxing. It's not about hurting, it's about landing shots. His jab landed in target zones and should have been scored. Most people don't know shit about boxing...
+Adam G what these casuals don't realize is the moment Dirrell switched his stance, Teddy picked it right up and said "Dirrell has switched from power punching to what he's doing now" which was his was of not saying dirrell was outright running for his life at that point.
And this is why Golovkin fights at Middleweight, but stay tuned, his fight with Alverez may be his last at 160. Wonder who he will face first if he beats Canelo.
I like both these fighters but the scoring was ridiculous. IMO Dirrell clearly should have won this fight. Many times especially in the 3rd and 4th Dirrell hit G not once, but two or three times and wasn't given credit. G would hit D once and get credit every time.
Minute 0.43 how did golovkin get a point from a blocked biddy punch, minute 0.53 direll lands 3 fast punches to the head after a jab from golovkin but no credit smh.
Yeah a lot of those punches went uncounted for. And I'm saying it because I'm black. You none boxing fans make it about race. Real boxing fans and boxers only care about skills , not the color of someone's skin.
Dean McAndrew I actually left out a few words. I like GGG he's very good. Like I said it's about skills not skin color. Andre did get cheated here tho.
Dean McAndrew You're maybe right my friend. I know I like him and I'm African-American he has good very good skills. Most blacks in the U.S. aren't into boxing. Football and basketball is the only sport blacks really pay attention to in the U.S.
I saw Dirrell get robbed in this fight. GGG was getting points every time he moved his hands wether a punch landed or not. A lot of Dirrells punches went uncounted. And I'm white from the UK, not that it matters...
See even Teddy Atlas is pointing out the points that are not being counted, the Olympics is a joke now, atleast two or 3+ points weren't counted and that was just from the commentators
This video seems to lends credence to the idea that Golovkin's pro resume is still somewhat flimsy. Interesting to see how much difficulty he had with a guy like Dirrell, who has range speed and power. He hasn't see anything remotely close to that skill set as a pro. I thought Dirrell had the slight edge over GGG during these two short rounds. The judging is absurd.
@ImElvis666 Back up form what Im saying? Now way! Im not saying Bute would win for sure, what Im saying is that what happens in the amateurs doesnt mean much once in the pro ranks. Ask Librado Andrade!
Olympic boxing is very bias in favor of eastern european, cuban and russian boxers. Not taking away on how good some of them are but they get a lot of credit from just swinging punches. Also, to get credit for landing is even tougher, as you could see in this video. Even though Dirrell was letting Golovkin to smother him he did pretty good when he let his hands go. Olympic boxing seriously needs to change that horrific scoring system.
scoring speed is too difficult in amateur boxing. Golovkin def the stronger more aggressive boxer but Andre's speed a lack of power to affect golovkin lead to the judges not to register a lot of his punches but I think he won based off points. In a pro fight it goes to gennadiy. Amateur judges should be tested of their eye speed annually to score blows
I checked this out because I read Dirrell saying he won this fight. It wasn't a robbery, but maybe he did, maybe not. Dirrill didn't say he won here. In any event, Golovkin has achieved more as a pro so far. Interesting how these comments divide on racial lines. I think Golovkin is talented, and I enjoy his fights, but would agree he hasn't faced anyone as good as Froch who Dirrell arguably beat (he held too much in that fight though so it's hard to get too worked up over the decision). There is something about boxing though that makes people identify with the fighter most like them. Even though GGG is a half Asian foreigner who doesn't speak good English a lot of American white people prefer him to Ward who looks better to me (I think the only Americans GGG's fought as a pro are Stevens, Rosado and Lajuan Simon, could be wrong) and a lot of black people don't want to give him any credit. Monroe ends the knockout streak I think because he's pretty good and its just time. No one beats Golovkin before Ward probably.
Will Walsh I am a big fan of Triple G, and I'm not from Kazastan. His swagger, his bombs, his angles he throws his punches, his broken english, he is one of few boxers I enjoy watching, even when he fights lesser guys(BUMS). But I'm a big fan of boxing too. I scored a bit more more for Dirrell.....he landed more shots. And there were a few times when Triple GGG didn't landed anything and yet the scores were registered. Dirrell threw many flurries that actually snapped Triple GGG head back, and nothing scores....Watch this fight on mute, and count the significant punches yourself. I thought Dirrell edged Triple GGG in this one. But the knockout of Lucian Bute is gold. I'm a former amateur champion myself, I always said that if you get knocked out in the amateurs, better get another career, cuz you gonna get knocked out as a pro.
+mcentepede It's close and Dirrell's corner (with the sound on) is obviously not happy with him, but maybe Dirrell did better like you say. I'm awful at amateur scoring--does the strength of the shots landed make them count more? I sure was wrong about Willie Monroe. Monroe fought pretty well, but he was outgunned and knew it right away. I boxed enough to know I wasn't any good, lost a "tough man" contest once so I envy you your talent. I've promoted three cards in my hometown as a grownup and love the sport. It occurs to me that Dirrell might not love it that much, just something about how he looks. He's talented, but he's not been a busy pro. Bute was wrecked by Froch in the pros, but acted like a gentleman afterwards which is itself a victory, so I respect him though he looks finished to me now. I'm going to the Lemieux fight in October! He'll confront GGG with something I don't think he's seen yet in the pros, but I suspect Golovkin will have Lemieux measured.
+Will Walsh I think you're being too tough on yourself, I can tell by your words that you have very good boxing knowledge, and you signed up for a "Tuff-man" contest, which takes balls anyways(I competed and won one such contest called "So You Wanna Fight" it's on youtube somewhere). Triple GGG should knock out Lemieux inside of 5 rounds. Lemieux is made for him, should be an exciting slugfest though, but Triple GGG takes a great punch, Lemieux does not, that is why he was protected like a new-born baby in his career. I'm a big fan of Triple GGG, Terrence Crawford and Nicolas Walters.
Thats bullshit. If you would have followed him since the beginning of his career and the promoters he was working with then you wouldnt say that. Every boxer under german promoters has been hidden from any opposition. And at the end of the day, the promoter is the one who is making decisions.
Way too many points given to GGG for the body taps. Those aren't even supposed to be scored in Olympic style boxing. Close fight either way but too many free points to GGG towards the end
I like 3G, but a lot of his fans can't be objective. He'll walk thru this one, he'll walk thru that one...can't we have him walk thru a "someone" first?
@ImElvis666 Like you just said....in the amateurs! I mean, FLoyd Mayweather lost to some random dude you've never heard of in the amateurs, does that mean they could beat him today in the pro ranks? I doubt it!
Dirrell threw a lot of punches that landed but never registered. I'm glad that this type of Olympic scoring has been revised.
and tbf I think there was times when dirrel through slaps and they were scored
Finessed Analyzer, you are probably used to pro scoring where they score Mayweather or Andre Ward slaps in order to help the hometown American star fighter win. At 3:10 I don't see how he connected with that left hook I slowed it up gennady missed it should have still been 15 17 not 18 to 15 for golovkin
You're absolutely right.
I think that Americans have not included all the points, but he would not have enough to win, but Golovkin looked more confident.
Well, i was wrong about his handlers.

that's because they knew the score but A blind man can see he didn't get points for punches landed and they gave GGG points for bs
Joseph Carter I'm not black I'm just boxing educated, you obviously Are looking into race
Isn't Teddy Atlas American????
hell no dirrel just felt the power of ggg inside and was scare to death
This was interesting :D
So many of Dirrell's punches didn't register on the board, boxing is very crooked sometimes!
ГЕНА КРАСАВЧИК!!!!!!!!!!!!! НУ ВОТ ЖЕ ПОСТАВЬТЕ НА ЭТО МЕСТО УОРДА И ВСЕ!!!!!!!!!!!
damn what a nice fight. i´d say up to the 05:01 min it´s a draw and genadi scores with 2 points at 5:03
if this scoring system continues, there would be less robberies. everyone would see who won
damn GGG has a great Resume already
Robbery might be to strong a word but it's quite clear Dirrell didn't get credit for some obvious landed punches.
They wasn't scoring his shots.
SKILLvsPILLS jabs dont do anything
***** Shows what you know about boxing. It's not about hurting, it's about landing shots. His jab landed in target zones and should have been scored. Most people don't know shit about boxing...
SKILLvsPILLS i dont care what you think, i live and breath boxing bro. I rather be in the gym than fuck the hottest piece of ass.
***** I think I read that right. I'll take the hot bitches if they come free. lol
SKILLvsPILLS they're never free lol
"holding" "grabbed me" lol that was dirrel, pathetic excuse for a fighter, never be remembered, thank fuck
ggg stole that medal
Direll felt golovkins power in the 2nd and started running and fighting scared. Throwing and missing punches. Golovkin would ko this guy Eazy.
Гена красавчик!
Who was judging this fight Stevie Wonder? Dirrell clearly won this fight.
I don't think so. He is the most terrified boxer in MW.
wow who was the ref? did he forget his fucking glasses at home there were at least 5 pts unaccounted for
Olympic boxing has the greatest robbery in the games and if athletics was boxing they would've found a way to rob Usain Bolt of his victories also.
Damn they wasn't giving Dirrel credit for anything
I like both these fighters but the scoring was ridiculous. IMO Dirrell clearly should have won this fight. Many times especially in the 3rd and 4th Dirrell hit G not once, but two or three times and wasn't given credit. G would hit D once and get credit every time.
I had Dirrell up 1 point they didn't give him a lot of deserved points and gave GGG a few blocked shots
you bias
Good Fight!
Dirrel won bro. They wasn't counting his shots
Minute 0.43 how did golovkin get a point from a blocked biddy punch, minute 0.53 direll lands 3 fast punches to the head after a jab from golovkin but no credit smh.
TEDDY ATLAS TRIED TO HELP DIRRELL
Dean McAndrew I know he's dope because my man Cotto doesn't want any parts of him, and I've seen Cotto give and take some beatings.
I saw Dirrell get robbed in this fight. GGG was getting points every time he moved his hands wether a punch landed or not. A lot of Dirrells punches went uncounted.
And I'm white from the UK, not that it matters...
+Leonard Coleman what black americans love boxing.I never heard that before
See even Teddy Atlas is pointing out the points that are not being counted, the Olympics is a joke now, atleast two or 3+ points weren't counted and that was just from the commentators
Who gives a fucks about this. As a professional. He's GGG is 36-0 and knocking everyone out
genius
dirrell only knows how to fight like an Amature
who is the fighter who could blow away GGG?
@ImElvis666 Back up form what Im saying? Now way! Im not saying Bute would win for sure, what Im saying is that what happens in the amateurs doesnt mean much once in the pro ranks. Ask Librado Andrade!
@thebone420
I would like to se them fight. Sergio thinks he's the only big shot in the middleweight division. I think golovkin could prove him wrong.
golovkin is a damn good fighter. He beat andy lee, andre dirrell, matt korobov and knocked out lucian bute in the amateurs!
GGG lost final fight because of this fight. It took to much of energy
Dirrell won that
Olympic boxing is very bias in favor of eastern european, cuban and russian boxers. Not taking away on how good some of them are but they get a lot of credit from just swinging punches. Also, to get credit for landing is even tougher, as you could see in this video. Even though Dirrell was letting Golovkin to smother him he did pretty good when he let his hands go. Olympic boxing seriously needs to change that horrific scoring system.
базар нет жігіт!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""
scoring speed is too difficult in amateur boxing.
At like 0:25 seconds
golovkin would win he is a very smart fighter almost as fast as dirrell, but more powerful.
Yeah that last round was a straight robbery.
what darrell doing at 3 and 4 round? this is no boxing!
The judges or punch scores defeated Dirrell. Thats why amauter boxing is what itis . In the gar Barg
And at the end of the day, the promoter is the one who is making decisions.
this just reminds me how bad the judging in this was terrible A.E. roy jones jr. in korea smh
you must be American, scoring in this fight wasn't bad. everyone hates olympic boxing scoring, pro scoring isn't better either
Way too many points given to GGG for the body taps. Those aren't even supposed to be scored in Olympic style boxing. Close fight either way but too many free points to GGG towards the end
I like 3G, but a lot of his fans can't be objective. He'll walk thru this one, he'll walk thru that one...can't we have him walk thru a "someone" first?
name someone" in his division that isnt running away?
wtf was darrelle doing dancing wtf
@ImElvis666 Like you just said....in the amateurs! I mean, FLoyd Mayweather lost to some random dude you've never heard of in the amateurs, does that mean they could beat him today in the pro ranks? I doubt it!
such pro american!!
This guy would be ripped by Ward
Ggg got point for jabs to the body what
