The familiar sound , used behind the chant during the dance break, you probably know (being part of an OG dance group and knowing breakdancers/hiphop dancers) is an interpolation of the theme used in "Planet Rock" by Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force from 1982. They actually sampled it from the 1977 track "Trans Europe Express" by the German pioneering Electronic/Synth group Kraftwerk. (Planet Rock also samples Kraftwerk "Numbers", Babe Ruth "The Mexican" , ORCH5 "Fairlight CMI" and Super Sporm "Captain Sky"). Planet Rock was innovative as it the first ever hip hop track to use Roland 808 beats and MC Globe invented "mc popping" for this track which is rapping off time. This track became a forerunner of the "Electro" sound. Bambaataa said this song was more influenced by Gary Numan and Yellow Magic Orchestra than Kraftwerk!! As an OG B-Boy, this Aespa track is amazing to use that interpolation!!
EDIT: One thing that hooked me in the song is the distortion effect in the vocal mix during the chorus. That sound *feels* like they're about to flash into an inferno at any moment.

My 2 cents of the storyline: Theyre all are superbeing from another planet. Came to earth with superpowers. All enjoying themselves with their abilities, except Giselle who just wanna adapt and be normal here. Giselle hesitates to invite them for her birthday. Meantime shes harassed by Karina who breaks her phone, NingNing who burned down her apartment and Winter whos just having fun flying around. She gets angry after her apartment gets burned down, so she turns back time and call up a tornado....and smack them with the TheEnd signboard at the end. And at 15:30 "this sound" you mentioned....i believe its from X-Men.
I think that Giselle hasn’t gone Supernova yet. She says “the explosion within me” so it hasn’t happened yet. Karina is being destructive in the city where Giselle lives, Winter playfully creating a hurricane and Ningning directly antagonizing her is all of them trying to get Giselle to fully go “Supernova” and finally join them.
I’ve watched this MV so many times so with late reactors, I like to watch their faces. You were so overwhelmed! 😂 But you are far from the only one. Nothing can top Drama for me but this comes close. Supernova lives rent free in my head.

Also I'm glad Aespa are sticking 3 minute minimum length for songs, I was getting worried with the growing trend of 2 minute songs in kpop so props to them for not caring about that trend, gives the song progression and chance to switch things up and then bring it back to the chorus. Also always nice that the chorus evolves with each iteration too, introducing new instruments and adlibs each time 😎
Is this my favourite Aespa track so far, even though Drama just got that title? Absolutely yes. Btw, where does 'looking like a doll' come from as a positive comment? I find most dolls pretty creepy and always associated these poor kids on 'Toddlers and Tiaras' type shows with it.
