I’m from Dallas, my great grand mother moved here from Houston. We have always celebrated Juneteenth since I was little. We all barbecued and she told us stories of living in the 1920s. Her mother was first gen free, born in Galveston. So our family always knew and appreciated this time of the year! And they had like 2 lines about it in the Texas history books in school 🫤It’s sad and victorious at the same time 🥹✊🏾 it’s always been a Texas thing to celebrate Black Independence Day ❤

You're right. It happened to me. Went in the bank with a big check. The teller told me they had to hold the check to see if it cleared for 7 days. Check cleared the next day. She looked like she had been spooked. I told her everybody doesn't scam😅

(July 4th,etc) The origins of America is a tale of three stories- Native Americans, White Colonizers, and African Americans and it does feel good to be recognized because we truly were not free on July 4th 1776 so what were we ever celebrating? I'm from Jersey and we always celebrated Juneteenth in church and in the community. It's a start of recognition that we are a separate nation within a nation. More will come from this in terms of the restitution we deserve.😊

My great grandparents had 12 acres of land & told all of us years ago don’t let the city take the land. Over the last 10 year the city have made several attempts but my family said no. Most of my extended family built homes on the land & refused to allow the city to open the road from a dead end street.
