    This technique works great to inlay an image onto a part. I took an image and converted it to black & white, then converted to svg. Then i impoted that into Bambu Studio and saved it back out as a 1 mm thick 3mf. Then i imported that 3mf as a modifier part into another project and used it as an inlay. In this case it was a playing card box in black PLA with an inlay image of the dead man’s hand (As & 8s) with skull and bones in copper silk PLA. It looks freaking owsome.

      That's one way to apply an impression to the surface of an object. Personally I'd use fusion and then apply it there as I have much finer control over the parameters and can wrap around complex surfaces.

    This is a really powerful technique, I can think of a lot of applications for this. Presumably one could also start with a vector graphic from say Illustrator or Inkscape and avoid the problems of enlarging a jpeg. Thanks for this walk-through.

      Yes good point, if you have a vector drawing then you can skip the JPEG or PNG resize step. But 90% of the world still operate on JPEG.

    Bahtinov masks!! Rare to hear anyone mention those. I run an 8, 10 and 16. Focusing is the challenge.

      Yep, I have a few videos on how to make batinov masks and where to get the designs.

    Is there a limitation to upscaling the initial image? And will the stl lose detail if scaled down significantly smaller than the resulting conversion?

    • @EmberSkyMedia
      @EmberSkyMedia  9 місяців тому +2

      There are always limits, you’ll see the more more of you scale down significantly than scale up. The main issue with scaling is the computer is attempting an approximation and that will never be as good as 1:1 but you can push it quite a bit if your initial image has 1000x1000 pixels resolution. Less so if it’s 100x100.

    After getting to the "make" stage, the "ok" is greyed out and Ctrl+S doesn't work. The option to save is greyed out too. How do I save what I've done to my computer?? I know you say how in this video but it isn't working.

    could this be used to convert 2d to 3d for laser engraving reliefs in metal?

    • @EmberSkyMedia
      @EmberSkyMedia  2 роки тому +2

      Yes you could easily invert the extrusion on to a surface object to make a 3D engraved solid. At which point you’d have to feed it through whatever software you’d use to run your lazer engraver.

      @@EmberSkyMedia thank you so much, I'm just starting out in laser engraving, and I'm trying to make reliefs, I appreciate you and your advice.

    Can you resize it on the 3D app/sketch?

    • @EmberSkyMedia
      @EmberSkyMedia  Рік тому +1

      Yep. Once you import it into your 3D app you can resize the SVG file in your virtual space.

    • @EmberSkyMedia
      @EmberSkyMedia  3 роки тому +2

      If your JPEG is high resolution, no. If its an icon or small intricate illustration scaling up would be recommended.

      @@fuqorock I use Fusion but a lot of 3D software tools can extrude a SVG file (give me a bit of time and I'll test that later this week and see what free options exist).

    Do you love yourself so much blocking a part of the screen with your face?

    • @EmberSkyMedia
      @EmberSkyMedia  2 роки тому +3

      Back then I didn’t know how else to do it, now I have more knowledge and can put myself to one side of the screen when needed. (I found when there was no face/person talking despite the same audio no one watched it???)
