Dismantling the old and installing the new bridges each took up a day. How long was Church Road closed to traffic in total? Those lifting cranes don't come 'ready for use'!
From what I can see from Googlemaps, it looks like this bridge will carry train traffic. Or did they move down the rail so they road can expand. I see the murals under the road, and the new bridge is over a red brick that you can see from Street view. Cool video.
Nasty sight of the wire cable untwisting under the load @ 2:55... the lift should have been shut down. The strain is unbalanced on the wire cable which is designed to work as a unit.
I am sitting here quite horrified by what I am seeing. There are 8 lifting points available on that span yet only four of them are put to use and without any attempt to defend the cables. I guess the designers only gave them 8 for a laugh. Right? All it would have taken was a suitable sling on each corner to bring all of those lifting points into play and reduce the risk by 50%. The stress on those cables. You can see they have been peramantly deformed. Seriously. What the f**k? Who is in charge of this job? Murphy? Not good. They need to use this video for training purposes.
Planned? Whoever "planned" that shouldn't be in charge of planning anything. As the site safety officer it wouldn't have gotten past me. I don't know what you do for a living but I hope it has nothing to do with construction or safety. When there are EIGHT lifting points YOU USE THEM and you use them in conjunction with an appropriate hitch. That's why the ENGINEERS who designed it put them there. It's not the responsibility of some crane operator in a high vis vest to please himself. Would you get into an elevator car if it was hitched to its cables like that? Do you think the official manufacturer's cable UTS specifications apply when they are mistreated like that? Ridiculous comment. And it's a "Highlighted reply". What for? Its stupidity?
i could watch thngs like this all day. thanks for documenting this event.
Thanks for sharing
Very interesting video. Wonder why they didn't place the span straight in with the crane instead of using the modular transporter.
Overhead power lines

This video quality seems noticeably better. Sun came out.
Paul, was the overhead catenary de-energised during this operation??
No it was left connected.

No it’s still used by freight traffic going on to the docks
knowledgeable voice over would have added a lot to this.
No, there's nothing worse than people babbling on when just watching and hearing machinery is so much better.
How are the sections of the bridge joined together ?
its all one piece

I agree, and I am a no-body, but believe like you. That don't look very cool!
Not untwisting, just spreading out.
How heavy was the new span?
150 ton
What a waste of cash this crain was...that mobile crain could have done this same job..rip off Britain
It was the over head cables that stopped the crane doing this lift.

I’m a nonce

Agree, very unsafe. How sometimes vids like this winds up on world's dumbest
If you are looking for a defintion of dumb look no further than the H&S officer in charge of that project. They need their ar5e kicking.
the other mounts are just spares for the future, 4 slings (obviously) exceed all lifting specifications.
a lift plan would have been devised weeks or months before the lift. Personally, I do not see anything untoward here.
