Bring people on who have been in the industry (Tech sales) for a while. I feel like most people interviewed are fresh. I'd like to see what longevity looks like and what they did to not get kicked out.
Nigga hatin
I’ve got 12+ years in tech sales and am still in it, I’ve been in my current Saas AE role for 7 years currently. Would be happy to come on and talk about it if someone could connect me with who to get with. I’m just finding this page but would be happy to help answer questions about any roles and provide direction!
I agree, I see people quitting after 2-6 months of getting into sales. I want to see someone after 1 year.
@@But.ItsGrowing he did bring someone on who has been doing it 8 years her name is Kayla Burke. She also has a podcast where she has had people on doing more than 3 years
You are such a handsome man ❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
This should be talked about more. I took the IT course. So many folks get hooked by the $$ and perks in tech and not realizing many of the entry level tech job are average pay or not 6 figures. It's a journey to that level. And it takes time. I chose not to settle and had varied work experience and good network in my favor to land a good paying job after 6 mos. Timing wasn't ideal but it's my reality. In the end it was worth it.
Absolutely, the tech journey is a process and success takes time. It's important to be informed and realistic about the path to high-paying roles. Your patience and persistence paid off!
I’m about to start the I.T. Course. Where were some of the places you’ve applied to. Also if you don’t mind me asking, what was your starting salary? I’m in the Gwinnett area of Georgia, hoping to find something starting at around $52,000.
@techisthenewblack I didnt get a six figure salary for the SDR role I just landed however I just wanted to get in the door. Im so confident in my ability to perform based on my prior sales experience that I know I'll be an AE within 6-9 months. So the money will come. It's the long game for me.
Sooooo exactly WHAT was the position? Sdr/Bdr? I'm finishing up course Careers rn. And I KNOW I'm not accepting anything under 80k. ALSO if you get with a company that's based out of any of those places you mentioned I'd ask for whatever THEIR base pay is in that city! A gentleman on your panel said that and I was blown away! 😳 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 SMART AF
Did you end up getting a position anywhere? I’ve been wanting to sign up but am not sure whether or not you’re actually able to get a job from it.
Any updates from your job search?
@Isaiah J still searching. I've had a couple interviews.
@@shephat69dawg it’s been 3 months tf
More than likely it’s a Senior BDR role or AE not an entry level BDR
See what I'm looking at isn't the OTE actually but rather what the base salary is because that's the difference between being able to focus on doing your job well and not worrying too much about the bills and vs doing your job for the sake of forcing yourself to perform in an inauthentic way that shows up in your sales performance. I'd say no less than $50k base salary is doable for most people's situations but $65k in high cost of living areas due to inflation. Tack on an extra 20% if you wanna get technical for the real cost of living cost.
What about people who did the digital marketing course or IT?
Yeah I live in New England, they gonna have to come up with six figures for me or relocate me😂 if you sneeze over here you might get taxed
Haha, taxes can be a challenge! Six figures or relocation sounds like a plan! 💸
The cost of living in Boston is crazy. You're barely surviving making 100k.
Facts I’m taking the course right now bout to get that tech bag 💼 💰#cyrus50
That's awesome! Best of luck on your journey to secure that tech bag!
Update?
Companies are not paying as much now since the influx of people coming in the industry. Realistically today I’m seeing $40k base $55k ote. I could be wrong this seems this is the new norm.
Last year even January of this year yes $50k base $80k ote was a thing, today they’re paying less….
The median base salary is actually up 10% year over year. Source from Repvue. There are still plenty of companies large and startups that are good to great offering 60-80k base 80-100k OTE.
That's pretty low and not in line with what I'm seeing but I set my job search filter to only show 60k and above. So that's probably why
You can set the minimum salary filter (for the lowest you would take). And when you research your companies make sure they are financially sound, have a good product/service etc.
Yeah your right they are paying lower.
Everybody and their momma signing up like it’s food stamps.
Doing course careers right now. About to crush it. Who knows may end up on your podcast interview one day lol. You're inspirational and you are helping people find a way.
That's awesome! Keep up the momentum, and who knows, maybe we'll hear your story on the podcast one day! Keep crushing it!
How did it go?
@@21Nekoda update
I’m gonna be honest, I have done course careers and I have 2 years of previous Tech sales experience. It honestly seems like the industry is decreasing the pay, most of the tech sales jobs I see now are trying to pay either 40k base or 50k base. I have turned down a few of them but the higher paying Tech jobs won’t even hit you up for a interview, it’s like they are getting more selective in who they choose. I think you have a valid point on what your saying though, just wish there was a way to guarantee certain pay In tech sales like there is in Sales Engineer.
Hey! I understand your concerns about the decreasing pay in the tech sales industry and the challenges in finding higher-paying opportunities. It can be frustrating when the job market becomes more selective. However, it's important to continue exploring and networking within the industry to increase your chances of finding the right fit and higher-paying roles. Persistence and staying up-to-date with industry trends can lead to promising opportunities. Keep pushing forward!
65k OTE or base??
This would be most likely base OTE would look more like 90k, at least for entry in my opinion.
I'm in the Atlanta area still accept $65k base? I'm currently in interviews now
Hey! It varies depending on the company and role, but $65k can be a reasonable starting point in Atlanta. Good luck with your interviews!
@techisthenewblack thanks, took course careers but maybe down the line may do careerist for sales engineer
I’m in the outer perimeter of Atlanta (Gwinnett) where were some places you’ve applied to? Were you hired yet?
@shareef4130 not yet, I've applied too many to count frfr, trying not to give up. Last company was Oragami
What is tech sale? Also when I type tech sales and indeed, Jobs, nothing comes up. What’s the actual name of the positions?
Hey! Tech sales typically involves selling technology products or services to businesses or individuals. The job titles can vary but may include positions like Sales Development Representative (SDR), Account Executive, Business Development Representative (BDR), or Sales Engineer, among others. It's a good idea to search for these specific titles when looking for tech sales positions on job search websites.
Can I use this to get a remote job while in Nigeria? Or do I need to relocate?
It can definitely help you gain the skills needed for remote jobs, and many tech roles are open to remote workers globally. It’s worth checking specific job requirements to see if relocation is necessary, but many opportunities might allow you to work from Nigeria.
I am curious, what do these people put on their resumes??
Hey! Individuals in the tech field typically highlight their relevant skills, certifications, education, and work experience. Tailoring the resume to the specific job they're applying for can also increase their chances of success.
I am really in need of a good paying job. I went to college first generation grad in Spanish and my school couldn't certify me at the end they told me and my career counselor said she didn't know me enough to help me tho I met with her and worked with her on events for four years. They only helped white ppl at my predominantly white private college that claimed to value diversity where I faced a lot of racism from peers and professors even. I now underemployed for eight years since them telling me just find a job on indeed and promising to help me but not doing so in the career center. I am stuck with my sweet cat in a toxic and abusive living situation trying to make ends meet.
Hey! I'm really sorry to hear about the challenges you've faced in your career and the difficult living situation you're currently in. It can be incredibly frustrating and disheartening when you don't receive the support you expected, especially when it comes to career guidance. I encourage you to keep exploring opportunities and seeking resources that can help you move towards a better situation. Consider reaching out to local job placement centers, networking with professionals in your field of interest, and leveraging online platforms to search for job openings. It may also be helpful to connect with support organizations or counseling services that can provide assistance and guidance during this time. Stay strong, and I hope things improve for you soon.

Is it not accepting anything less than 65k base salary only or base plus commission
The salary requirements may vary by company, but aiming for a 65k base salary is a great goal when negotiating in the tech sales field. It's always a good idea to negotiate for a package that includes both base salary and commission to maximize your earnings potential.
