The response to the announcement of our new album has been wonderful, thankyou so much to everyone for the support! We thought we'd go ahead and release track 4, the trilogy of the album to give you a taste of what's to come! We've got a single and a music video coming soon, but we thought the first taste of this record should be something more indulgent to say thanks for being patient and letting us finish this wild prog album!

SKY SAILING
The Lavender Fox descends, and scampers beside me
A pouch of petals fastened under its throat

The wind’s riddle resolved, our flightpath revealed
As passenger, I hurl a handful

At the whim of the wind

Maneuevring, eye on our shepherd, our petals of pink

In awe, we land before the fragrant veil
Our first steps treading technicolour

What lies here, beyond Umbra’s bloom?
Though I could burn away

I sheathe my blade

Rapturous blackness

The murk of the gravewood
It vastly encumbers my senses
And yet, I feel sure of a presence that mirrors our stride
The Lavender Fox, it whips around
As if to accuse a wilting shrub
But there is nothing there
Naught but the shade
Lustre illuminates
As soon as I brandish, it is gleaming
I am led by the blade
Deep in the false night,
Tendrils of ghost-wood start clinging
Every step forward, the bracken resisting our stride
I feel it crawling my shin, cut it back - it coils again
Why must you persecute
Wraith of the glade?
Do we approach the core?
Or do we die here in the strangle
As the plantlife contorts?
The smother continues, but still I slice against its grasp
I strain ‘til my eyes sting - ahead I see the source!
Just a little more! This web will not be my grave!
Just as we reach the core,
I turn to see the Lavender Fox
Poor thing, ensnared by its wing…
How much will be severed
By this blade if I…?!
My one-winged companion,
Abandons, in gruesome mistrust
And I’m left alone with my deed
With eyes too inflamed to be fuddled by glamour
I sink my friend-stained blade into the palun
And it sings, as it siphons
The bloom above begins to die

Petal on fox-blood, my new sheath
As all around me
Colour rains, the sun prevails
Yet harm is all I care to deal and dwell on
If I had thought that it would end this way
That every bloom was due its wilt
I would have scorched the opulence
No flower should be worth more than a wing
How could I have known
I lie alone, entombed
In what remains of something beautiful
This shedding, never ending
Keep me buried
Help obscure my crime

From the first moment this song resonates in my mind, transporting me to a fantastic and metaphorical story. It's incredible how the lavender fox and the protagonist face different challenges in each tune, clashing with the temptation to destroy the beauty around them to avoid a dark fate. The combination of guitars along with the piano is essential to give flight to the emotions and atmospheres from beginning to end of this song. I can't wait to continue listening to Fym's other narratives. This new album is wonderful guys. 🦊🍃🌠

WHAT A SONG! Incredible how you keep improving with each release, since i discovered the band i caught myself thinking about the lore, imagining and theorizing stuff in my mind like a conspirator, trying to catch the motifs through the songs (i know, i know what you did with that "sea and sky, wind and tide" pls tell me i'm not crazy and it's real).
3 days for me to digest the song since the structure seems to be a bit different than the things you've done before, a lot of new elements and i'm loving it, wilder and organic. Now i'm humming and singing "LUSTRE ILLUMINAAAATES" while i take a bath or wash the dishes lmao. The hype for the album increased A LOT!
Ah it means a lot to us that you're digging into the lore and the lyrics and the imagery! We put a lot of time and effort into that side of things (at this point Chris has already released a novel haha), so it's nice to hear it's being appreciated! Hyped for you to hear the record!

Pre-ordered. This is going to be a challenging listen. But for all the right reasons. I do not know if this track is representative but I note a change in musical direction. Almost a jazz feel. Anyway ,can't wait.
Glad to hear this has got you excited for the record! There's definitely a lot of different jazz influence going on, especially with the guitar solo at the front of the track! Had to sit down and learn some 4 note per string legato technique and learn a bunch of sax lines to get across the frantic sax sound Chris was after from me for that section.

I've been listening to this song since it came out. I was so excited since I've been really waiting for the new album. To be honest, I had trouble getting into this song. I didn't really like it at first. But it's been steadily growing on me. As I've started recognizing the main melodies without getting lost in the long instrumental runs, I've really started to appreciate it. It's definitely not the same as a more catchy song like Mistress (still probably my favorite), but leans more towards Spark Madrigal with dizzying passages, some dissonance, focus on telling a story, hiding the melody a little. Not sure why I'm writing this all down, but I honestly can't wait to get my hands on the full album. I hope some of the catchiness of Mistress, Redtail and some of OBAAB stays, but I'm with you guys either way :).
Ah appreciate you taking the time to appreciate the more dissonant approach on this one. Don't worry there's plenty of catchiness (and some further dissonance too) on the record. It sort of runs the whole gamut. We wanted to release one of the more harmonically out there tracks first just to make sure people know what they're in for basically haha!
We'll have a music video for one that's a little more straight ahead (by our standards) coming out Friday!
@@azure2176I'm really looking forward! I always loved Mistress's video, in my head the rain and weather really fit the theme.
I'm happy about the catchiness: to me it's always felt like your strong suit. I was super impressed with OBAAB how each song has a very distinct hook, and it's not always "just" the sung chorus melody. Same thing with Redtail which I find some of your absolute best work, I can listen to it every single day and never get bored.
That said, Spark Madrigal really has me hoping for the future, because there it's the more "weird" middle part that I really love. Anyway, essay over :P.
Just want to say that it's amazing to be able to communicate with one of my favorite modern bands. Really awesome!
@@FrigoEU Ah glad you dig that stuff! We just make the stuff we want to hear with no real sense of duty to anyone else's sense of taste other than our own. But we're big enough lovers of songwriting for that to never really escape the purview of our style, so if that's the music you're here for, it'll likely remain a prominent element.
This album in particular was written as a concept narrative front to back before we ever wrote a note of it. So everything on the record is evoking the emotions of the story beats. So there's gonna be some elements where the music reflects some of the darker parts of that story, and some of the more peculiar parts of the story! But yeah, there's also some bangers, excited for you to hear it in full and really appreciate you sticking around for the ride as we go a little off the rails on this record hahaha!

I'm really curious for the book and the story of the record. Normally I'm not a huge lyrics guy but I plan to pay special attention this time around :).
