So this video inspired me to go and watch the film. I ended up with a full-fledged interpretation. The boy (let's call him Noah, as he recounted the tale of Noah's Ark) is an agent of the apocalypse, his divine purpose to ensure these eggs are cracked open at the peak of their maturity so that the trees can grow to hold the eggs of the giant birds every time the structure descends from the heavens and into the ocean. Usually these eggs are kept by a guardian (hence the sheer amount of statues on the structures), and once the egg has been cracked, their duty has been fulfilled, and so he must lead them to their demise (which is why Noah stood on the other side of the ravine with his back turned to the girl, who I've taken to calling Angel because the name of the film is Angel's Egg). And every time the structure ascends once more, it takes with it the likeness of the most recent guardian whose purpose was fulfilled. The reason why Angel's statue is different from the others is because all those before her treated it as a duty to uphold. She treated the egg as though it were her own child, and thus her statue is depicted in a more motherly manner. That's how I interpreted the film.
Angel's Egg is a good fit.
I'm glad someone drew the same comparison as me when seeing The Greatest Living Show! Would love more anime with similar art styles!
I recently saw this movie and felt The greatest living show really fit it’s vibe, feels great that you and other people think so too!
