This has been a passion project of mine for a LONG time and I'm glad to finally complete this challenge. I completed this challenge on original hardware! I streamed the entire run on my Twitch channel :)

As someone who beat all the rounds of Orre Colliseum good luck. I did that once and I have no interest in doing it nor will ever do it again. You ever twist a controller so hard you manage to crack it? not just the plastic casing but the actual circuit board. And this was a GameCube controller.
This is the only video I have seen of yours but it was really solid. Long enough to fully go through everything but not dragged out like some content can be. I subbed and would love to see an XD video. The only piece of advice I would give is that if this does start to take off for you to get a better microphone to prevent some of the popping in the audio as well as having a cleaner sound, but it's nowhere near something that is a problem though.
This game was quite possibly the start of my crippling addiction to pain when I play video games.
Literally every single Pokemon battle has a recoil inducing move. It takes the pressure of capturing Pokemon before they struggle themselves to death, then puts it in AT THE START OF EVERY BATTLE.
And I love it.

Before watching this video I was 600lbs and only stayed home hating on random strangers online. Watching Cyndoughquil 100% this game gave me the motivation to rethink how I live my life. Now I’m down to 180 lbs, benchpress 355, own my own company which makes billions of dollars daily, and am happily married with a supermodel wife and two kids. Thanks Cyndoughquil for this amazing video which was the catalyst for turning my life around!

Possibly my favorite game of all time. Such a cool and concise retrospective of the campaign and postgame. This has definitely enticed me back into another playthrough.

Something to note about many shadow Pokemon is that they have modified catch rates. That is why the starters(180), the legendaries and Metagross(15) are relatively painless to catch but Skarmory(15) and Tyranitar(10) are more difficult to catch. In XD almost every shadow Pokemon has a either the same catch rate or higher than normal with the birds having a catch rate of 25.
Very good info! At times catching Pokémon early mid game before MB was pain lol and it felt like some of the pokes just did not wanna get in the ball 💀
@@Cyndoughquil Most shadow pokemon have higher catch or identical rates though only a few have lower like Skarmory, Tropius, Tyranitar and Togetic. You can really feel it with Tropius as it when from 200 down to 45. The shadow Legendary beast higher catch rate makes it so that throwing a regular red and white pokeball at full health has the same chance to capture as an Ultra ball at 1 HP on a regular legendary at 2.106%! The legendary birds in XD have a higher chance to catch than 1 hp Paralyzed Bird. XD catch rate are all either higher or the same as the base Pokemon.
That’s interesting about the dogs, Raikou in particular was a nightmare to catch and I almost missed it the 1st time cuz it just wouldn’t get in the ball lmao
XD I feel is the easier game in terms of catch rate, just has more Pokémon to catch
I love this game, and this was a fantastic breakdown and analysis of the game. On the surface it doesn't seem that hard, but oh boy, those sweet summer child, they don't know what they were in for.
This was amazing, I didn't know I needed this in my life.
It was truly a work of passion haha I love Pokémon Colosseum so much and I feel it doesn’t get the love it deserves!
I figured including a story “playthrough” along with the challenge would strike some sweet nostalgia with peeps and hopefully get more ppl to check out the game!

@@Cyndoughquil A lot of people love the game, and its sequel, the only issue is it is a difficult game to actually be able to make content for, it's not as simple as an HDMI capture unit like modern systems use, and many people don't want to emulate it for content, because they respect the game too much. the first group is where I am at, thankfully I do have a necessary hook up system for it
I luckily have my gamecube and both games still so I was in the I need to play on original hardware boat haha
My main issue with emulation is using speed up for some of the tedious sections, the over 40+ hours put into the game were legit and I was proud af for it lmao
XD will be on original hardware as well, so that vid will for sure take time to film etc

The number one problem I hear first timers have with colosseum is the difficulty curve but the best way I've found to countet this the 100 trainer mountain that you mentioned earlier as well as the underground colosseum. Both can be re-challenged as many times as desired offering a endless supply of money and exp.
(Edit) when I said underground colosseum i meant the one you unlock after beating venus in the main game not the deep colosseum in the post game.

This time around I actually enjoyed the challenge so I tried to avoid training as much as possible!
Honestly the hardest thing about Colo for me recently was Mt Battle Jirachi fight, Trainer 90 Registeel and that damn Kyogre on level 100
@@Cyndoughquil I dunno if ya noticed it, but one thing i really enjoyed was Ho-Oh flies closer into the arena the more you have progressed with the quest. At first it just flies off into the distance after stopping the cipher escape, once you catch all shadows it will actually fly around the arena itself, purify them all and it straight up flies INTO the arena and back out again.
Oh na I didn’t notice that, that’s a dope feature tho!

This was a really cool video to watch! The "Orre" games as I call them are my favorite Pokemon games and I've played through both serval times. That said, I actually never knew about the ability to obtain Ho-oh on Colosseum nor that shadow Togetic battle either since I never attempted to fully purifying everything in that game. I did however fully purify everything in XD and discovered the special ending where your character takes off and removes the snag machine, which I thought was cool. Definitely looking forward to watching your playthrough of XD!

This video was the 1st time I ever got Ho-oh and it felt really good haha the togetic is apart of e-mail simulator so it’s easily missed.
I’ve actually started XD, until script is complete I’ll be doing it once a week, once script is done it’ll prob be streamed almost daily so I can get all the footage needed :)

Plussle is a hidden gem in this game. It's a trade Pokémon, so it will gain double the XP. If you give the XP Share and keep it in the back of your party for awhile it will not just catch up with but even outgrow its team mates. I had mine 30 levels higher than the rest at some point.
30 levels is crazy haha but yeah me personally not a huge fan of plusle so I always box it immediately lol
@@Cyndoughquil Plusle with Helping Hand to boost Suicune with Surf and Mystic Water is a huge amount of power though.

Such a good game. I replayed this during quarantine, both games, and it was so nostalgic. Sent everything up right to Home. I really want a Remake, third installment or even an import for the Switch!!!! Best Pokémon games in my opinion.
It’s an amazing game that is under appreciated! The Orre region has so many unique spots and cool characters but sadly I don’t think Pokémon want to do anything regarding Colo or XD In the future :(
The music in Colosseum and XD had the best sound tracks hands down. The towns and the battles are very unique.

Getting the Earth Ribbon from the story mode of Mount Battle is what I consider as 100% completion and you can also transfer Pokemon from Emerald, FireRed & LeafGreen not just Ruby & Sapphire.
Fair point, for my 100% I always just considered completing the dex In Pokémon games
Similar to Hollow Knight I consider ribbons, Battle Frontier etc as the extra 12% for “true” completion

If this was Japanese version, (or if you're proficent enough with the Action Replay stuff) you can hack your way into Virtual Reality room, and hack all the virtual trainer battles via e-reader card pack. You can get 3 more shadow pokémon that way. This was cut in the NA & EU versions.
This game is only half-done really, there's an entire third box empty for no good reason, and there were leftover game files found mentioning a whole lot more pokémon than what's available. I hope this game gets a Wind Waker HD treatment and gets re-released with all it's cut content and e-reader content restored, along with the two bonus disc content.
I wish this game would get remastered! I don’t think Pokémon have any plans to ever touch the Orre Region again sadly

@@Cyndoughquil First: Check "Cutting Floor Room" for detailed information about what I've said. My guess is, that if things went as planned, we'd get all those mentioned extra pokémon in the datamined files to fill that third box with...
Yes, the other JP version exclusive bonus disc was Celebi (and a Pikachu holding Light Ball). HOWEVER: If you remember or read about obtaining Celebi requiring all 48 Shadow pokémon being captured and purified, instead of just given out like Jirachi, is because THE EVENT ITSELF IS CODED INTO THE GAME. THAT THE JP BONUS DISC ACTS LIKE AN IN GAME EVENT ITEM! Meaning, if you have a means to hack the game, you can trigger (albeit untranslated) Celebi event in your save file, and legitimately get an english Celebi in your Colosseum save file, and your GBA carts if you have the other necessary hardware (GC, GBA-GC link cable, GBA and same region games). I did so in emulator, so I guess with necessary stuff, it's also possible to do in legit console.
Currently, what's missing in the base game is A Shadow Togepi, A Shadow Mareep, A Shadow Scizor (all 3 are virtual trainer room exclusives), A LightBall Pikachu and a Celebi.

I remember playing this game fairly blindly and ended up learning there was an extra time flute at the top of the battle mountain. I was thoroughly dissapointed to learn this after apending an eternity with Togetic

NO WAY! YOU HAVE TO DO MT BATTLE FROM THE MENU?!? when I was a kid I had long since purified every shadow Pokémon and then traded over a bunch of Pokémon from Gen 3 and beat all of Mt Battle and never got the Ho-oh and I just thought I must've done something wrong. Same thing in XD, I grinded up my team expecting to get the starter or whatever the prize was and beat it in game and never got it. I cannot believe you were supposed to do it from the freaking menu!!!
Yep haha they don’t clarify it in Coliseum but menu Mt. Battle!
Actually only realized it when I was doing this play through for the video lmao. It’s a cruel cruel Pokémon world out there 🤣
I have zero reason why, but every time I play through either Colo or XD my strategy will eventually wind up being "1 STAB move, one double hit/coverage move, Protect/setup move, EQ" on just about all of my pokemon (unless EQ is already the STAB/double hit move, in which case it'll be another setup move or protect). It's probably because so many pokemon have either ground weakness or bad/shit physical defense stats.
It’s a great Strat for these games! Most mons get devastated by EQ. I’ve found special attackers get bodied in these games too often lol

This video is such an oddity to me, because the question that it poses.. is immediately thrown out until the second half of the video. O_o I kinda have to wonder what the intended audience for this video is since most of it is just telling me what a plain old playthrough of what this game is like is. But it also seems like a weird question to ask, because catching all of the shadow Pokemon is like... the point. If you're not going to do it, why even play the game at all? It's not like not catching the shadow Pokemon is that much easier than catching them (especially since you're willing to reuse the master ball)

Colosseum was and still is to this day a timeless classic. Although i'll never forgive Gamefreak for getting rid of The Under in XD, that was my favorite place in the game, the soundtrack of the place goes hard after all these years.

@@Cyndoughquil The sad thing is that you're probably right about that. We might probably never see another Orre game ever again, let alone a remake or remaster of either Colosseum or XD. With Today's Gamefreak's philosophy on how their games are nowadays it's highly likely they'll butcher up these games.
I think GF came out and said they didn’t like the mature setting of the game or something and almost wanna forget Orre exist :(

I used to always save whenever possible in the event i missed a pokemon that can't be re-encountered

I really don’t understand why people say this game is the hardest Pokémon game. Yes it’s limiting with what Pokémon you could capture, but I feel it does good providing good options for you to choose. I’ve never had an issue 100% this game, even when I was younger.

This game for sure deserves attention especially with how Ehh the newer Pokémon games are! For me, I usually tried to purify shadow Pokémon when I got them and would switch out Pokémon that could level up so I was always under leveled stuck with just Shadow rush, but I enjoy the challenge.
Shame we’ll never see a mature Pokémon game like Colo and XD again tho 😞

No one has ever made a video about truly 100 per centing Pokémon Colosseum by importuning and recorded every Pokémon on the in game Phone by trading.
As a big fan of the Orre games, I say you should go for XD! It has a lot more shadow pokemon, but more quality of life improvements. No cool secret like Ho-Oh, but at least the shadows have unique moves.

Lugia is arguably the best legendary so getting that is worth! Plus I overall think XD is the better of the 2, more areas and content!
@@Cyndoughquil It sucks that it's more of a defensive pokemon, and therefore, a weak shadow to use. Especially if you don't save a slot for it against Greevil, the one time where shadow resistance matters to it.

Even a game with only 48 catchable pokemon feels like it has more post content than Pokemon post XY(Scarlet/Violet might be different, didn't get to beat those yet)

Scar/Vio have decent postgame stuff but it’s mainly just 6/7 Star raids

It's really not that hard once you get the Master ball, because you can use the glitch to keep reusing it by switching it's item spot on your second command after selecting it on your first. Infinite Master ball glitch. You get the master ball right before a lot of the very hard high level encounters happen in the game.

I thought you had to beat all 100 trainers without dying so I never bothered.
So that’s true, but you get continues and each trainer you beat gives you 1 continue. But if you run out then it’s a full reset

Would you consider doing the two big mods for XD (XG:Next Gen) and Colosseum (grand colosseum)? They're huge improvements on the base game, the difficulty is definitely there, and XG actually has a post game legendary hunt unlike XD
100% would be down to do those! After the XD 100% they sound like a good time
@@Cyndoughquil oh yeah they were, played through them both (without 100%) and they were fun, a ton more shadow Pokemon in XG, plus Wailord gets drizzle. Budget Kyogre is a blast.

Howdy! I recently caught and purified all the shadows (yet to go for Ho-Oh).
When I did the battle for Shadow Togetic, I easily caught it but would go on to lose the battle. I saved over my old file being excited that I finished all the Pokémon, but I’m finding it impossible to rematch the guy that pretends he’s you. I know it’s not the biggest deal but it feels wrong to consider the file 100% when people still act like they hate me for attacking them with a shadow togetic 😂
Did you run into this problem or have any suggestions?
I was able to fight him again even after catching togetic and losing the 1st time.
All I had to do was speak to him again at Outskirt but if that isn’t working for you, I’m not too sure then 💀

Re interacted with the tv and everything, what I’ve decided to eventually do is download a nearly complete save of the game on PC, play up to that point and PKHEX my exact team into the game to fight him. If it’s a glitch I can’t help I at least want the satisfaction of knowing I beat him
That’s fair! That’s also odd the game does that, wonder if it checks for him to have shadow togetic in his party and if he doesn’t it just despawns him lmao
@@Cyndoughquil if you re-fought with no issue, I think my problem was that I basically purified the Togetic right after I got it. The guy might despawn if the game sees I have everything purified.
But yeah, I still want the satisfaction of beating him with my team so I think I’ll try to just do the battle on another file

Isn't there Japanese e-Reader exclusive Shadow Pokémon like Sizor?
There is, but I played on the original hardware so I didn’t have access to the super pricey E reader cards to get Scizor, Togepi, and Mareep as I would if I had emulated. I’d consider them more like DLC since you don’t need them to get Ho-oh :)
