- Historical, rustic winter encampment with the 1820 Living History Group the US 5th Infantry.
Follow along on our fun at this reenactment as we gather firewood using two man 6 foot long cross cut saw; transport the logs on sleds; split the wood using two bladed axe.
We patrolled the area on traditional snowshoes in the wood and across a frozen lake.
Meals cooked over the fire in a Dutch oven.
Reenacting, cabin, wood stove, adventure
Hell yeah this is some excellent stuff right here.
Glad you enjoy it!
Stew looks delicious.
its was pard!
Looks like a lot of fun!
Nice video, lots of hard work and the food looks incredible.
This is the most physical event of the year for our group .. giving a a small taste of what past generations did daily. THANKS pard for the comment.
HARD WORKERS
after the wood details we did have down time :-)
Winter Camping in the northland. Temps under freezing; but kept very warm with all the firewood. Sending you an invite to follow our group here on youtube and also facebook.com/1St.Minn.Sharpshooters
that's a bit of back breaking work fellows.
Love seeing you hard and hearty native northerners do the duty up there. Excellent video as always, and thanks for putting in all that work to all of you. God bless y'all.
Ps: Do y'all call a two man saw a misery whip up there too?
thanks pard! I have not heard the expression "misery whip" .. but I can see where it came from :-) The weekend was all work - we did have a lot of downtime visiting around the fire... cups in hand.
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 beautiful LT. That's a special and satisfying kind of fatigue to unwind from. Y'all be safe brother.
Nice video. I'll bet those two dutch oven of food din't last long after all that work.
we did eat well after all that work.. we could have used your "strong back" at this event pard. :-) or perhaps you are now retired from these duties.
Would’ve loved to come and see. But sadly for me, I’m already in Minnesota having to say goodbye to grandma. She passed and tomorrow we hold the service. At least I can see Fort Snelling now…
I can see by your comments the world lost a great person. Hazzza for your grandmother and whos lives she touched.
Do you find that the extra flap of fabric on the greatcoat makes a difference?
For cold weather it does add another layer; if you are more stationary (like on guard duty for several hours) it helps. In cold weather, I'll use it when sleeping to pull over my head. thanks pard for the comment!
