I'm 9 months late to this, but does anyone remember U.B. Funkeys? This was where I initially saw this take place, before Skylanders was even conceived. It was by no means a big thing from what I could tell at least at the time, and the base game didn't have much to offer. Each little toy ended up being glorified cosmetics, while others were just expensive dlc (before DLC became more common/very expensive).
I used to have quite a few, but i sold most of them, save for the characters that often don’t have any merch otherwise. Snake, falcon, fox and samus were the ones I valued the most (until the recent metroid revival)
I remember in the beginning of 2019 I’ve collected a good amount of the smash bros amiibo (both from smash 4 and ultimate) and now since it’s 2024 my resolutions is to collect all the remaining ones I don’t got.
I had many amiibos just sitting in my desk, mostly splatoon and Zelda ones. I even have the yoshi’s wooly world Ones. It’s sad that whenever I go to stores i only see like very few amiibos and it’s always the same exact amiibos
I personally think they should have used the amiibos for more crossovers. Example: fire emblem fates let you scan Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin to recruit them but what if you could use ALL of the smash bros amiibo and recruit Link, Cloud, Samus, and the rest of the smash bros cast? I feel like it would have a bigger impact in-game.
I have one, Snake, because I have a massive Metal Gear collection. Never used any of the ones I’ve owned over the years, other than some of the Animal Crossing cards to get some villagers I wanted.

If nintendo did make 400+ figures for every animal Crossing character, you know there would be the typical amiibo addicts buying all of them lol. Doesn't matter if they're useless, worthless, unpopular, etc. Amiibo addicts WILL complete the full collection
Smash Bros. Amiibo are awesome. I really hope Sora gets one like the rumors suggest. I have Cloud and Plan to get Sephiroth as well. Lord knows if I win the lottery I'll buy the whole smash roster lol.
As someone who’s collected them since 2014, I’ve enjoyed using them in game or displaying them in a glass case.
Amiibos still sell really well. Nintendo just isn’t relying on it like they did during the dark days of the Wii U.

In my opinion, I really love the Splatoon amiibo functionality even though I have only used them (the ones I currently own) in Splatoon 2

You're so lucky. I tried to get the joker amiibo, and to this day, joker is massively overpriced. Its now 100 usd plus shipping to get OUT OF BOX.
