  • In just over a month, I'll be setting off to attempt to run 2,000 miles in 70 days along the Danube from sea to source. It's a mixed-terrain run that'll follow roads, trails and who knows what else. Making the right shoe choice is a big deal. So I've been looking for a shoe that can cope with road-to-trail conditions. Something soft and protective enough to help my feet handle the miles but durable enough to go the distance. Not too heavy, or too grippy but able to handle the off-road.
    In this video, I run close to 20 miles - swapping shoes every 5 miles - to test four new commuter trail shoes built to do just that. On test The North Face Vectiv Enduris 2, Hoka Speedgoat 5, carbon-plated Hoka Tecton X and the inov-8 Parkclaw G280 with its graphene-infused midsole. Hit play to see which shoe made my Danube river running shortlist.
    CUT TO THE CHASE:
    0:00 - Intro
    2:37 - Trail shoe 1: Hoka Speedgoat 5
    3:51 - Trail shoe 2: Hoka Tecton X

    13:38 - Trail shoe 4: inov-8 Parkclaw G280

    Some great information about all of the shoes you reviewed, thank you. Having already purchased the Hoka Speed Goat 5's one thing I would say is that the soles on them do wear out quickly. Within 3 months of light training and a ParkRun every week all the grippy lugs on the heels were gone, leaving them very slippery in the mud. At 160.00 pounds a pair to replace frequently, that could get an expensive year of running.

    I'm always pleased when I watch Vlogs and the experts select a shoe that I have, the SG5's. Most of my walks/hikes/runs are in a mix of terrain so having a shoe that work for both is very important. Thank You for your Review

      @@Manvmiles It REALLY is as I need a pair of commuter running shoes myself and I like highly cushioned running shoes. BTW I’ve seen others complain about those North Face ones rubbing on the little toe also. I’ll be following your epic journey with great interest!! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

    I have never seen a review done like this, and I enjoyed it, I can see a pair of speedgoat 5 coming to my rotation this year, although will need to watch sizing. I have the atr6 which i use for cross over and long runs/ultras, the only thing I should of done is gone up 1/2 a size as they are just a touch narrow in the toe box but like you found the enduris. Great work, subscribed 👍

    Very nice test and so uncommon among youtubers who just sit in a studio talking about technologies instead of 'the feel'.
    Tecton doesn't really fit into this comparison. Being the plated shoe it was bound to have completely different results. I have two different options. Adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 Low - they have very similar ride and cushioning to Speedgoats, while having more responsive boost midsole and excellent continental rubber on the outsole. Unfortunately thy are heavier than Hokas.
    The second is New Balance Hierro - very soft, cusioned ride, plushy and comfortable upper. And quite light compared to traditional trail shoes.

    I’m really enjoying the Tecton X! - I wanted something light and quick on the trails, maybe for marathon+ distance (just maybe not every day for 70 days!).
    The twin plates work, I’d really like that feel in a road shoe.

    • @Manvmiles
      @Manvmiles  2 роки тому +1

      I enjoyed them as well. And would definitely consider them for single days where I want to move fast. They're kind of perfect for 10km - 42km on the kind of forest trails I'd usually run. Will do a full review of these separately too.

    Just bought the parkclaws and did a 30k trail road in them. Roads and moorland. Legs and feet were battered in them not very forgiving and cushioned. But very small too.

    really looking forward to trying the Tecton X. I have two runs in the SG5....love them when there is not a lot of off camber.... but the upper gets a little sloppy in my opinion when there is.

    • @Manvmiles

      I have tried the Cloudultra and the Cloudventure. Liked the Cloudultra, not a fan of the Cloudventure so much. Cloudultra run firmer than many trail shoes, particularly the HOKAs.

    My 2 cents on the Enduris II: a ton of foot-shaped support midfoot that shoves you forward onto your forefoot where there's NO padding. Weird. I love the colors though.

    • @Manvmiles
      @Manvmiles  2 роки тому

      When I first ran in them on their own for another test, I was really surprised by them and liked the ride. But it's interesting when you get a comparison like this, changing shoes every hour. Really get to see how different they all feel. And have to say, though I still don't mind the Enduris, I prefer the Speedgoat for a more natural ride. But then I'm quite old school in liking a more traditional run underfoot.

    im new to trail running, and just signed up for a 21k trail race in Sept (lol🙃. thats the only non-virtual race available right now above 10k of any surface in my country).
    For road running, i like Rincon3 and Rebel2 for my dailies + lil bit of speed work. So in Trail realm, which trail shoe models are close to these (+a lil more cushioning)?
    Currently i have shortlisted SG5, as i had good success w/ Rincon3 and Clifton6. But i dont want to limit myself by brand.

    • @Manvmiles

      Speedgoat 5 definitely. Nike Peg Trail 4 might be worth a look. Also the Hoka Tecton X for shorter trails. North Dave Flight Vectiv perhaps.

    I have the SG5’s and the Tecton X’s. I’ve been wearing my Tecton X’s more mainly because I cannot stand the colors of my SG5’s. I have the same color way that you have.

  • @Huxley555

    I have the sg4 and tecton x and love the latter for its speed and comfort. But after taking them out for a 45 mile ultra and noticed some things.
    The rubber on the tongue comes away, so I'm having to glue it back.
    Also didn't like doing road miles, found them a bit hard.
    But they are fast, responsive and a lot of fun to run in.
    Truth be told I'll use my Olympus 4's for my next one, they are more comfy and run faster than my sg4 despite bring s touch heavier, plus they're geared up to use gaiters which haves a lot of bother on those trails.
    The tecton x was good for me, but if I was going further I'd look for something more sturdy and cushioned as it's less about speed then.
