I really like Soldera’s no spitting policy! And with such epic wines, I wouldn’t be needing the spittoon either. 😁 Thank you for this excellent presentation of Gianfranco Soldera’s story including his meticulous viticulture and vinification methods and practices. He definitely had a passion for perfection and his standards were very high. Also appreciate your discussion of his wines which clearly shows why they are justifiably some of the most collectible and sought-after wines in the world. You are so lucky to have tasted his wines! Glad you decided to make this video and share your Soldera knowledge and experience with us. Cheers, John!

Thanks very much, Margaux! I’m a huge fan of that policy, provided the wines are good! 😂 Glad you enjoyed the video! Such incredible wines! Cheers!

I live in Boston and the Eataly here has a few bottles that sell for at least $700. How does Soldera compare with the Biondi - Santi wines you've tried? Love the channel. Keep up the great work!@@AttorneySomm

@@edwinbelete76 Thank you! As much as I enjoy Biondi Santi, Soldera is a level up. The purity of fruit is truly special!

John, if you haven't already done so, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the best producers of Aglianico, as I feel it's a very underrated grape varietal. I recently had one by Elena Fucci and it was outstanding! Thanks so much!

Thank you! I have mentioned some of my favorites a few times. Most recently in my Italian Wine list review a few weeks ago. I agree it’s underrated.

Interesting tale. Do you know what happened to the (presumably disgruntled) employee?
On a related subject, I have been mugging up on when to start drinking Brunello di Montalcino. Most suggest a minimum of 10 years, at least in good vintages. I drunk my first (of six) 2015s in autumn last year and it was superb. I have some '16s, 18s and 19s in the merchant's cellars, so I thought of opening another 2015 in the next few weeks. Perhaps I should hold off for another year or so. What is your experience of drinking windows with Brunello?
Btw, I am just finishing off the dregs of my weekend bottle: a Fenocchio, Villara Barolo from 2011 - delicious and probably somewhere near its peak. Luckily, I have a few 2011 and 2012 Barolos and Barbarescos from various producers, which I will drink before the 2010s and '13s. I understand the '18s are very fruit forward, so they might get an airing before too long.
Thanks again for a fascinating and informative video - not that I will be indulging, unless the wife strikes it lucky with her Premium Bonds 😂.

      Ha! Fingers crossed! 🤞
They caught the guy soon after and arrested him. He dumped 80,000 bottles worth of wine!
The Il Poggione winemaker tells me he liked them on release or after 10 years. I largely do the same unless in a pinch at restaurants or for off vintages that I open a bit earlier.

@@AttorneySomm what a senseless waste. Talk about dog in the manger!
Thanks for the Brunello info - perhaps hold off for a year or so.
