  • In this video we take a look at the Brightwell Aquatics Xport NO3 Brick and Bio Plate. In short, bacteria starts to grow it consumes nitrates and produces nitrogen gas and exits the aquarium in gas form. In turn you can reduce Nitrates in your saltwater aquarium without doing a water change.
The Brightwell Aquatics Xport Brick and Plate is a great way to reduce nitrate and phosphate in your saltwater aquarium.

Just got both bricks and the MB7, my questions are.
    1. Do i return the water used to soak the brick back into the Aquarium ?
    2. How often do i replace these bricks or rinse them, what kind of maintenance on them.
I am new to the hobby, but i am having good success so far and want to keep my nitrates on the low side.
    Thanks.

No maintenance needed. Soaking them is bacteria before hand can help out a lot.

My tank is 110gallon. I have 2 NO3 bricks in my sump. My nitrates measure < 2 ppm. So Im pretty happy with them. I dont have them in a low flow area. I have them stuffed behind my socks in redsea 525XL. FYI they fit perfect. Thats why I got a second one.

What guidelines would you use to do water changes? Running 5 tanks. All a little different. Four of them in the 30-33 gal range. One 5 gallon.
All inverts, corals, fish look well and happy. Despite instant ocean reef salt start up and exclusivity used. Each take has slightly different but all stable. Nitrates from 10 - 60. Phos 0.25 to 5, ph from 7.8-8.1. Salinities from 1024-1027 / 33-35 ppm.
Had been testing and checking frequently with 15-20% water change every 1-2 weeks. Now just redone after 1 month running, last check 1 month ago and last water change nearly 1 month ago. Everything is almost identical to last month.
All tanks with pretty heavy bioload for their sizes. So what guidelines then for water changes?

I found a lfs that sold vibrant and was going to pick up a bottle. Seen Thai brand for $10 cheaper so I gone ahead and got microbactorclean. Let me tell you that I have had algae growing everywhere. I was carbon dosing for at least 2 months and nothing. I just put this stuff In my tank yesterday at the minimum recommended amount and this morning my sand bed was clean. All my rock looked clean and even my water was damn clear. I also got some of those bricks but smaller but was actually in the lfs system with live bacteria. I would check my nitrates but these API test kits I have tell me I’m at 160ppm and my local lfs told me way less after they tested so can’t get test results for nitrates

Wish the plate had the dimples on one side, I'd use it for a reverse flow sand plenum. Push 2 gallons per day thru it.
Would make a good base for the main display and if anything fell keep it from breaking the glass.
Wonder if they can customize it for large orders like marine pure can?

so how do you reduce them if you dont have a sump? My first corals wont eat and from me trying to feed them reef roids is causing algae on my rocks and now high nitrates! I also took out seachem matrix, i had perfect parameter when I had that in my aquaclear 30. I only have a 10 gallon, no skimmer. I just read that seachem is good for nitrates, I took them out a few weeks ago but saved them, would it be dangerous for me to put them in? I am filling a 36 gallon next week so I will make sure to get his other product. Should I put an undergravel filter in my 10 gallon. I was alsmot thinking of shutting it down beacuse my nitrates are around 60 I think. This just started as well and I dont know how to lower it! Just changed almost 50 percent water 4 days ago and I already have algae on walls and now I see it in sand! Has to be from the reefroids and these corals not eatting it and maybe removing the matrix contributed. I may have high phosphates as well but cant find color chart! Also I started using chemipure elite which is gfo and carbon, says to use for months but carbon is supposed to only be effective for a few days! Seems this stuff is worthless than. My water is always yellow now too!

How often do you have to change them

  • @karennation3580

I think I may be in trouble. I have a 4 to 5 month old tank. I just added 18 frags at once. I won 1,000.00 from unique(dont be hatin) and some came from my other tank that had a crash, from aslinity to low and adding someone elses live rock that was in a bucket for 3 weeks with no ammonia source, and added about 14 frags then too. So not sure what caused it but lost all my lps. so I took my time evn turning lights on in this 36 gallon then I went and spent a bunch more of my credit and added about 14 frags again! They were working ona problem and holding my corals and just kept seeing more and adding more...lol long story short. my nirtaes shhot up from 10(no skimmer was hooked up) to 30 did 2 water changes close together, much better so added the corals. I also got 2 fish. I hooked up skimmer, but its leaking and it overflowed gunk 2 x's in my sump I changed water about 5 days ago. I change it weekly and now its up to about 60! I have a ton of marine pure balls that arent doing anything. Tomorrow we are going to seal the skimmer, because the leak is worse and not collecting just wattery stuff. I went and placed another order since they sent my corals and hadnt corrected my credit and they had a live sale, a memorial sale and ebay auctions. So Ihave about 14 more coming in! My alk dropped to 6. My phosphates last checkeked were low like between 0 and .25 so chemipure elite works! The corals wil be here in 4 days. I can do 2 waterchanges. I have no pox as well. Should I wait and see how much the skimmer effects nitrates. I am scared to start adding additives, since I never have. If I dont feed the frags for a few weeks this will be better right? I am sure this spike is from the reefroids! Although they never spiked that high in a 10 much less a 36. I waited to long to do my very first water change because I used live rock and wasnt sure whenit cycled. so I have had higher nitrates all along in this tank even without feeding corals or having any. I practice same husbandry! My nassarius snails I rarely see. I thought of getting some turbo. Ijust finished battling hair algae in the 10. Its now a nuvo 20! Its freshly cycled I think. Not sure if it totally recyled after the crash. nirates are just above 0. Sometimes I wonder if its cycled but there has been a snail and a hermit in there for weeks and I have added bacteria and amonia drops here and there. I have a damsel in there for a few days. Pretty sure its cycled but hate to add corals so soon. I never had algae before the crash because I wait 3 months to turn lights on and now I may rush it because I dont want this other tank that has the high nitrites to crash. What should I do? Sorry so loong! Thanks

Thanks for making this video. We're starting our 1st build (90 gal display tank with 30 gal display refugium & 26 gal sump). Understanding that this is an affiliate company, we would still love to know the results of using these products. 1. These are supposed to be better than the Marinepure because they have the addition of sulfur, have a larger surface area and don't add aluminum to the system. Have you tested for any aluminum? 2. We've read in other forums that the NO3 Brick has bad tendency of breaking down into a mushy block that disperses murky coloring into the water if handled after a period of time. Is that true from your experience? 3. Did you any different or the same results from the Bio plate when handling it after it had been in the sump for a period of time? How long did you keep the brick & the plate in the sump? FYI... This company is only about 2 hours from our home so we would love to consider using their products as way to support the local business but that issue of breaking down and making the water cloudy disturbs me.

I have a question for you... I have a 4 part sump, it goes... 1- Intake, filter socks, 2- Protein skimmer, 3- return pump area, 4- is a RO/DI area for my Auto top off. 4-is not connected to the other three (only through a pump hose). Now I don't have much room in the skimmer area, but I do in my return pump area. Could I add some MarinePure 1/2 cubes around/in my return pump area. My pump has a intake protector and since the MarinePure doesn't restrict water flow. Could I utilize that area. I know the command practice is to leave that area just water and nothing else. But again I don't have much room for a bigger sump and this was the sump that came with my system. I see it as a waste of space where I could add more surface area. Thoughts???

i had a saltwater tank over 10 years ago and the only thing i ever found that kept my nitrates at zero was an inch or two of very find grained sand at the bottom of my tank. I went an entire year without having to change any water and nitrates never went above zero. Im no rocket scientist but it should not be this hard and this many years later that there is still no product on the market that can replicate the anaerobic region of a 2 inch fine sand bed. Please bill gates or elon musk solve this problem so we dont have to do so many water changes just to keep a saltwater aquarium without elaborate setups.
