    I understand some of the animosity he may hold for certain artists in this, especially Manson. Reznor is a god himself tho. To say NIN is a ripoff of SP is insane. Every NIN album is completely different. i always thought it was hilarious at the fact some of his music videos were to obscene to air. besides SP is fucking awesome, the whole cult aspect is what makes them for me. i heard they even toured together once.......i'd shit and die

      NIN's later albums definitely show a creative bankruptcy (although he seems to be heading in a better direction now through film work), and trent to some degree undeniably sold out the counter-culture that made him for the mainstream.

      Such as who? That's a bullshit statement without anything backing it up. Typical...and I'm a huge Puppy fan ....much more than Nails. I really don't like NIN that much but I have never seen the comparison. Why? Because they used distorted synths and drum machines to construct music with? Nails seemed closer to Depeche Mode to me with more of a "pop" structure. Easily sung verses and choruses. Puppy was much more abstract and there were plenty of dark industrial acts at that time that you could say NIN were more influenced by. I could see his first few albums had these influences but his more recent material definitely has its own stamp. I really don't see who he is blatantly ripping off these days. We all have influences but they are way less obvious now apparently.

    If anyone actually took the time to fully listen to or read all the lyrics to this song, and not just watch and pay attention to the video and nothing else, it's fairly obvious it isn't about Manson, Reznor, Eminem, and dissing them for whatever reason people would like to imagine, It's about Ogre acknowledging certain feelings of bitterness, resentment, and jealousy for not being more popular and having as much notoriety and fame as these other artists in Industrial music, despite being one of the main artists responsible for developing and popularizing the genre, and rightfully so, to an extent, and thinking about miming or aping their style to gain more popularity, being frustrated that he can't understand these artists, their music, and/or why it is so popular or how to be popular like them, expressed in the lyrics, "Feeling blind to all important scenes", then, despite these feelings, ultimately realizing he shouldn't care about such things and should "give it up," because "it's unoriginal," to try and copy other artists' style, as the song puts it, and should ignore these thoughts and focus on staying true to his own artistry.
    I mean, everybody knows about how Trent straight up just admitted he ripped off "Dig It" for "Down In It", If anyone has the right to feel that way, it's him. I mean, how would you feel if someone admitted to straight up lifting your work when you helped develop and flesh out and establish a genre more and getting more popular then you? Wouldn't any normal person feel at least the slightest hint of resentment? Can you blame him? And despite that, Ogre still acknowledges these feelings are wrong in the lyrics and he shouldn't care and just focus on doing his own thing. So ultimately this song is Ogre introspecting more than anything else and it sounds to me like he isn't being critical towards other artists for selling out to appease a broader mainstream audience as many people might be led to believe as much as he is criticizing himself for even thinking about doing just that, hence the lyric, "Still sucking life from the mainstream?" Ogre realizes that he "thinks he's evil" for thinking about ripping off these artists, "but you're not," but he's not, realizing it's okay to feel that way as long as you don't dwell on these feelings to much and sell out and move on and continue upon your own personal artistic venture. Lecture/rant over. Now could we all just move on and enjoy the music with proper context?

      It was like he was "Can I just have my moment for fucks sake?"

      William Morrison directed the video and a few other Ohgr videos, he also directed Skinny Puppy's killing game music video. he also happens to play live with Skinny Puppy and Ohgr when they tour.

    Underground FTW. DOWN WHITH THE MAINSTREAM-ERS!!! NIN is dead too... Atleast SP and OhGr dosen't do the music for money, and this is definetly Electro/Industrial!

    They put shit on Eminem which Is really funny to me. "ooOOh Im a rap God!!" nah you can sing fast but that's all you have you're just a flexer XD I'm not a fan of rap and while I have respect for that guy with his talent It's not for me. This however, this Is what I like.
    Also small edit I get It's not actually about that but I'd like to imagine so
    Another edit: I just realized there's the minotaur that shows up near the end losing his damn mind. And at the end there's the labyrinth. Pretty cool symbolism for what this song's about.

    @plasticsmile231 No one is more entitled to their opinion than another. No matter how ignorant they are.
    And everyone is also able to translate the music into whatever meaning they want. Some people cry when hearing a song, when others get riled up by it. But Shoogle is pretty much right on, regardless. :) personal vendettas against anyone... who gives a shit, just enjoy the music.

    @Armagon9177 nothing wrong with his music today. he's just gettin old and wants to explore and do different things other than that hateful music all the time. not to mention, but when he stopped doing drugs, he lost a lot of animosity that he has for things...i think anything reznor touches is gold...and i actually was listening to nine inch nails when PHM came out..before they got all "trendy"...doesnt matter...if they are or not...nin still beats the shit outta most music today

  • @b-spot
    @b-spot 14 років тому

    @OrbitZombie The Fragile outsold PHM and it was released under his own lable. I'm pretty sure he made alot more money off it then PHM. That and PHM's ownership rights are all fucked up and currently owned by a bank, Trent essentailly makes writing/performance royalties off of it whenever it's printed. I'd assume he probably made a decent amount off of The Slip aswell, seeing as how he got to pocket everthing (minus overhead). And once you factor in the tour revenue that each album generates...

    Well if you listen to interviews it doesn't seem like anyone really likes Trent all that much. I'm not trying to stand up for the guy, I think this kind of thing should be beneath Ogre though, it's more something you'd hear hip-hop guys do. I'm not a fan of NIN in the slightest,but I don't love everything Ogre's done either. Cevin Key on the other hand is the man and can do no wrong. Duane was pretty great too RIP.

  • @apheks242

    Are you serious who cares if he covered a sp song during the ministry show. The only reason Trent was singed was because he ripped off a sp song. Down in it was a clear rip off of dig it. If you don't believe me look it up he openly admits it. Either way sp owns nails any day hands down. Look at Manson have you seen his live show? It looks a lot like an sp show you would see in the 80s.

    The point the video is making is that Everything in the music industry is pretty much diluted, how bands are trying to be controversial and they aren't(slipknot,Korn...blahblahblah).
    It also has undertones of how everyone sells out.
    You don't have to dig deep too understand the concepts here.
    (the NIN thing is a take on a common phrase "oh ohgr???you mean that guy that sounds linke reznor???"

  • @scraperindustry
    @scraperindustry 17 років тому

    Well, just because it is mainstream, doesn't mean it's good. Likewise, a lot of independent musicians are also sucky.
    It's just that sadly, a lot of mainstream lately has no talent to offer. Good examples are record label creations like the Pussycat Dolls who have no talent except look hot for the camera. A lot of rap vids do the same by filling the screen with gyrating dancing girls... Everyone just seems to be after the sex appeal while music comes secondary...

  • @cyberskelet0n

    There's nothing wrong with listening to underground music, either. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad. Infact, all of that horrible generic rock that they play on the radio isn't even half as good as the more complex things, such as those with better playing (Dream Theater) or meaningful messages (Skinny Puppy).

    skinny puppy, kill thrill kult, ministry, girls under glass, all in my eyes started industrial,.. without them there would be no mainstream crap people hear of today, rammstein, das ich, psyclone nine, cruxshadows, so on. of course theres one hero who started industrial and "goth" PETER (fucking) MURPHY

  • @EyesofNeurosis

    the problem is not so much trent, but these kids who worship him when equally or more so talented artists do not get credit. Yes, every musician has influences, but Trent has literally stolen music, as well as Led Zeppelin and others. Than claimed originality.

  • @morbidlyxyours
    @morbidlyxyours 14 років тому

    Um... for everyone who doesn't know the history/who Skinny Puppy is, the reason Trent Reznor is in this, isn't because he failed musically or anything, it's because he royally ripped off one of Skinny Puppy's song (Nivek Ogre AKA ohGr)

  • @Hematemesis

    True Adam is Bipolar and in his new book admits everything fucked up thing he did very openly~ but he did it to himself. Trent's thing was just wrong,there is a youtube video out where Adam now on proper meds openly says "hear is a song you might know by NIN that I wrote and Trent stole with out rights,royalties or credit" ~ I know Trent's story but it's a fact he came from money.
    Another sad issue is that of Rozz,was friends with him we kept in contact sadly he did kill himself

    Entirely you opinion.
    And I was not saying ANY of those groups you've mentioned sold out. I like Sister Machine Gun,Throbbing Gristle,Ministry,NIN,Skinny Puppy,Ohgr,FLA and Rammstein.
    Trent Reznor hasn't sold out. Hes been giving away MP3s for FREE and if you want a Vinyl or CD version pay. He has not been making near as much money as he used to. He cleaned up from drug addictions,got buff and started making new music which you don't like because its not the same psycho stuff he used to make.

    No need to get spikey. Personally I don't think that not seeing the point means being part of the problem. I don't read celebrity magazines, nor do I worry too much about musician's lives :) Don't assume just because I don't agree with you, that I'm what you are complaining about. Why worry about what other people say or think anyway? As long as you are happy with not caring about the irrelevant histories of artists, what do you need to holler about it? =)

Hard to suffer when you've been handed everything

    Actually the lyric goes "Still sucking life from the mainstream."
    I think the message of that part is along the lines of "I wouldn't have a problem with mainstream music if greedy assholes didn't get paid millions to write shitty unoriginal unintelligent uninspired music." But thats just my guess. ^_^
