@@dynasty0019 You have to add the doppler effect LOL!!!
Lol
7:50 now that is a rare catch
Had to take MARC every afternoon last summer, one day we ended up racing a metro right next to each other neck in neck for about 3 minutes straight! Damn shame no one caught that on camera.
That speed difference 🥶
8:05 the Amfleet cars running parallel to the new Acela was pretty cool
Now that's what I'm talking about, finally hitting top speed!
With that tilt on though. I'm tryna see tilt off 220mph
This isn't even close to it's top speed.
We didn’t like the horn when the train was going slow. He had to go over 130 mph for it to be good. That horn is amazing.
It's possibly the most un-American horn that I ever heard. It sounded like a french ambulance or something! Gross sounding in my opinion, but maybe it sounded better in person.
Agree!
@@railroadjim Well it's a French train. The euro trains sound better anyway
That horn is terrible
I like it too, also had no idea it was 2 tone, it’s not an American design so I wouldn’t expect it to have an American style horn, plus it’s high speed and doesn’t encounter any crossings as far as I know
At 7.50, the passage of the Alstom rocket "Avelia Liberty", with the powerful sound of the engines in action. Not even the TGV has this sound when it passes. I am European and Portuguese but I fell in love with "Avelia Liberty", it is spectacular.
jesus that aveila has some real speed
True high speed rail is even faster
@@Someone-wh8hi We dont care :)
This is high speed rail to us
@@Someone-wh8hi I dont see how it looks slow
It looks as fast as the ICE 3
And this case, it’s not though
Acela could do 200+ if we had the infrastructure to support it.
I’m glad Amtrak is improving itself with these awesome fast new trains. A dream come true!
Finally catching up to European passenger rail standards. With the impending arrival of the new ALC-42 Chargers from Siemens, the Avelia finishing up testing and the new Stadler KISS EMU coming soon for Caltrain a whole new era for American passenger rail is about to begin.
As an European ( I´m Portugese) I am glad to know that. Finally the US gets fast, pratical and presentable trainsets. My congratulations.
@Pete Melon in north east cities? no. NYC for example has 40% car ownership and 18% in Manhattan. Trains in the North East are greatly used and people prefer to take them than planes because the total trip time is shorter with a train.
@@rogeriomonteiro760 Thank you for your wishes. At last we now have a small presence of these fast trains that you Europeans were lucky to have enjoyed for 30+ years!
This looks really cool. I hope they make a Lionel version of this train
Or maybe train simulator or train sim world.
If they are smart, they should already be working on all sorts of Lionel and other merchandise. Now that Biden is in, this is the open chance to market...
8:00 vtec kicked in
Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
VTEC-Shinkansen, Renault Turbo-Avelia Alstom
8:02 Avelia gets her revenge from the last race.
Constant catenary tension
time to say goodbye to old school low speed amtrak.
7:55, the Avelia Liberty is definitely a huge step for high speed rail in the US !! 🙌🙌
I always thought that damn those amtrak locomotives drive fast about 200km or even a little more. But then I saw avelia at 8:10 I was completely speachless. In few years trains in US will be as fast as in Europe. Can't wait!
(Insert petty senseless comment from someone who lives in Europe and how America=bad and Europe=good because they got to a high speed network faster)
Well....nah the line still has lots of old bridges and things...it's from the 1930s and there are many speed restrictions.
Eurostar top speed: 180mph amtrack avelia liberty top speed: 220 mph
Have a merry Christmas from one railfanner to another! 😄 🎄 🎁
Merry Christmas to all railfans!
OOO! I was waiting for this!
New Acelas are so good looking!
Its sounds so nice!!!
The only thing I see with this train. So much hope and promise
I can't wait to see this speed during the day.
I live in nj, love that we are getting new HSR!!! Hopefully the regular NJ transit will speed up as well!
Geez those overhead wires just bounce around don’t they
Northeast Corridor Line. Yes?
I love taking this line from Hamilton Train Station to NYC (that is before 2020, of course). It’s also a great line to take to get to EWR. So convenient.
Nice catch!
It does look pretty impressive flying through at top speed with sparks flying
The race between the two trains at 8:12 was cool.
Not even close to its top speed
Most awesome vid!!!!!
8:31 French police car shortly before falling apart.
its the new French TGV wait a minuts its a Amtrak Acela 2
Glad to see America is _finally_ taking steps towards better high speed rail. Really hoping I can make my way out to the NEC this summer to get some footage of the Avelia Liberty!
Given the fact that we've had Acela Express rail travel that was hitting speeds of up to 150 MPH since 2000 it's not exactly a 'new' thing here that we have high speed rail. The project was started in the late 1990's. The reason you don't see more high speed rail on the NEC is simply a capacity issue. It's the same problem in Europe where capacity is choking the rail networks and causing CONSTANT delays and bottlenecks as a result.
The Fact that the Avelia and the Amtrak train were having a race, rare catch. Quick Question: the last local train in the video, why was it on track 1 even tho it was going westbound
The train could have broke down earlier. Many reasons
8:14 nice race!
I agree
That was awesome!
Avelia: Look France! Now we’re as fast as you now!
Love the race
8:32 that's how you play the TGV tones !
today is the year we get the avelia lets goooo
Just imagine how this'll look pulling up next to old MARC or NJ Transit GP39s or Metro North P42s at stations, they'll look like Jurassic fossils by comparison lol
Good shot two amtaks side by side
At 8.00, the sound of the traction machines is incredible.
that's actually the sound of the pantograph cutting through the air.
Phenomenal video @ 8 minutes
I like trains
Awesome
At 7.44, an amazing race.
0:00 Sounds like a tgv passing by.
Im not made of stone, its starting to grow on me a bit
Round 2 of avelia vs acs-64 avelia won again
That train is horn is so beautiful I'm talking about the aveiley Liberty 21
I hope in the future the northeast corridor is upgraded for 200+ mph
That is way faster than the current Acela
they coming back to back
I love that aveiley Liberty 21 horn it sounds very great I love that horn it's better than Aleca express
I didn’t think it existed yet, i thought it was still being built
How do you find out when they are testing? I wouldn't mind heading to a station to watch some time.
I really want/need to know why/what Brecknell Willis has done to their pantograph design because all their highspeed pantographs make this humming sound above 80mph our high speed trains in the uk have the same pantograph and they too make the sound
God. I really honestly hope they change the horn in this thing. I finally got to see two of them in person ar 30th st station
Still and all, there's something about the Silverliners (at 0:44) that appeals to me for commuter service.
What do you use for filming, I have a motorola G Stylus. I can record up to 4K video 30 FPS or switch it to film 1080 60 FPS.
Great
8:07-8:15 was epic!
So is it still in the testing phase?
GONE!!!!!!!💨💨💨💨
Alright! High speed testing for the avelia!
Nice
When are those trainsets set to enter service precisely? I heard somewhere something about early 2021 but given how this year has been I'm not that confident about this date.
I’ve heard late 2021, forgot from where tho.
They’re still saying 2021. I think it’ll most likely be mid 2021. But I do know that they really need to start handing those original Acelas back to Bombardier this year. So I have no doubt about it happening this year.
I have heard late 2021
Either 2021 or 2022
That's all we know as of right now. Amtrak hasn't confirmed when they will start in 2021 yet
I see the ACs 64 beeping the horn to Aveiley Liberty 21
I would imagine if they builted more Amtrak High Speed Trains to connect around the United States
That would be nice. One thing is for sure: If that ever happened, the airlines and good ole TSA would never see my face again.
@@TheChicagoL yeah
@@TheChicagoL Hells, yeah!
Imagine only paying $30 to from BOSTON to DC in 2:30hrs. That's what it's like in Germany
@@Nionix123 Imagine paying the taxes they do in Europe? Actually we'll be paying those taxes soo enough with nothing to show for it.
How do you know when they are testing? I'm relatively nearby and I so badly want to see 165 mph in person.
9pm-3am
Wow.
Are the NJT trains always that long or are they deadheading some equipment? I know there needs to be social distancing space (as there should be) but that seems like an excess number of cars for very few passengers. What is the load during the day?
NJT trains on the NEC and M&E are always long, about 10 cars. Before the pandemic, passenger load was bone crushing but now it seems the trains run mostly empty. The station in my town always had a 5 year waiting list for the parking lot but now it's largely empty during the week. So yeah the passenger load is nil but they're maintaining long trains to keep passengers separated.....my only question is why are they still running so many trains for 10% ridership?
Connecticut Multimodal Transit rush hour those things are PACKED.
NICe
Wow! 155 mph in the USA. Never seen that kinda speed here before.
Europe and Asia- we been doing that speed for years.......
8:32- at least we kept the European sounding horn.
You must not know much about the rail network in the NEC given the fact that we've had 150+ MPH Acela Express trains in operation since literally 2000. The project was started clear back in the late 1990's. As I've explained to others the reason you don't see more high speed traffic on the NEC isn't a speed issue but rather a capacity issue due to huge public demand and the operational consequences that go along with higher speed operations.
That said I'd note boast too proudly about European rail travel speed when capacity issues are literally choking the networks over there causing historically terrible constant delays as a result. To the point some trains are literally NEVER on time any day of the year and the problem only continues to get worse. On top of that the self sabotaging laughably terrible bureaucracy of the way the EU is handling the issue (along with about every other issue for that matter) is only slowing down forward progress that much more ensuring the problem won't be remedied anytime in the near future.
Having been to Japan and seen the rail traffic flows around the nation you see the same pattern there as here in the US. A very select few high speed operations sprinkled around here and there with a overwhelmingly huge volume of slower speed trains to handle the bulk majority of the population needing to be ferried.
This is all easily found information and common sense. Try learning some of it before spouting off online or in general for that matter.
@Ploke Newo78 TGV and Eurostar trains go at 200 MPH now (320 km/h). A decade ago many went at 186 MPH 300 km/h)
@@samuelitooooo The Eurostar does not go 320 km/h. The trains themselves can go 320, but the highest speed limit along any of the routes is 300 km/h.
@@OntarioTrafficMan That is totally correct. I have been on the Eurostar many times and the Eurostar hardly ever hits 300km/h. The more typical speed is between 280-290km/h, which is still great
European horn sounds terrible
How many new train sets arrived in total on NEC this year?
2 one at pueblo and one on nec.

@@IndigosClothing its cool
3:57 that NJT has a strange horn, sounds like a melbourne comeng train.
:o
Shit, I never even knew that a train could ever reach that speed. And I kinda still don't believe it.
1:45 wow
Who gives a SHIIIT about the horn when you got THIS?! 8:07
Just needs to go 6mph faster 😬
I love trains but new train lines will never be built unless train prices are lowered.Amtrak’s prices are higher than Jet Blue and other airlines.
idk if putting train going 170 next to a track that has a train going like 50 is a good idea.
Not like the other train is gonna cut off the faster one
8:02 (behind the scene)
1:42 what is that
5 amfleets with a baggage car
90
@@FanRailerThe train with these cars is called the “Carolinian” Most of the time they have 5 cars and a baggage car in the back.
9:40 Isn't the train on the wrong side?
its not like roads
No. These trains have the ability to travel in either direction.
but the Avelia was more faster 220 mph vs 170 mph
First bullet train in U.S ? ...why.....
This is not a bullet train
Because our infrastructure is old and outdated.
Why amtrak trains are so short?
I mean, we are in a pandemic right now. Usually the trains range from 8 to 14 cars. Typically around 12 during the holidays.
The pandemic. Reduced ridership means less equipment needed, I assume.
They aren’t. The units are longer than the old Acelas but each car is shorter. The Avelia’s can also be configured with 12 coach’s in the future vs. their current 9 if demand requires it.
because of the pandemic?
They're not except for a couple
No offense, but the new Acela has the ugliest horn on any American consist! Horns like them only belong to Europe, not America..
I love it it's a nice change of pace.
Dude literally stood in the station watching trains 🚆 go by!! WHY??? Guess you don’t need a stimulus check Huh??? 😳 Choo Choo
