I remember when dealerships based their prices off of the MSRP, and supply and demand didn’t play any part in it. I was just at a Dodge dealership in the summer talking to a salesman about the price of a Hellcat, and he said they keep going up because some people will pay whatever the price tag says.
Vehicles are also way overpriced here in Canada with all the extra taxes we have to pay. If a vehicle is worth more than $100,000, there’s a “luxury tax” (because the sales tax of 12% isn’t enough on $100,000). And it’s based on the fuel mileage.

Bruh… you ever heard of predatory capitalism?
I worked for a carpet company once that also sold ornamental rugs. They would lie and say they were imported from Nepal, made by monks with only the finest wool from Himalayan sheep. In reality, they were made from garbage recycled materials in Detroit by some asshole working minimum wage who hated his job. They would get them for $120-150, tag then for $3500-3800, then say they’re running a “40% OFF HOLIDAY SPECIAL!”, and then even have the slick salesmen tell individual customers “I’m not supposed to do this but I can use my own employee discount for you”.
In the end, they’d pay $120 for this piece of junk rug but con people into dropping $2300 on it. Welcome to reality man.

And also find the exact keys to those exact cars out of probably hundreds. I worked at a dealership for years and those key boxes are hard to get into and even get the key to unlock to pull it out.

Facts. But is also makes me wonder about the tracking systems. When I worked a dealership in 2021 before we could sell a car the alarm and tracking system had to be turned off for the customer. If not then the cars wouldn’t start up again after turning off. I wonder if that’s how every dealership works. Only the finance managers were able to turn them off I wonder if these challengers had the same systems. Definitely an inside job though in my opinion

It's late at night. You're stuck working night shift security at a Chrysler dealership, bored out of your mind. You go to use the toilet, sit down, and start scrolling through Twitter, Reddit, or whatever. Five or ten minutes in, you hear the sounds of car doors closing, and six Challenger Hellcats starting up. You wipe in a panic, and rush out to the showroom floor, only to see the taillights of the last one dissappear around the corner. Admitting defeat, you go "Ah, fuck this." and get in your '92 Corolla, driving off, and never looking back.

I know owners of car dealerships. I promise you these aren’t random thieves. They are paid to do this by the owner. There was a dealership a couple years back that claim to have thieves come and steal a bunch of rims off of a bunch of pick up trucks. Obviously, it was a great insurance claim. They get way more money from insurance, and they had to pay to have the stuff stolen.
