I always had the impression that Uematsu wanted to have the sound of medieval folk music with this theme and this cover nails that tone, this could pass on a medieval fair or something.

I've never played FF9 before, so I wasn't familiar with this song. From the perspective of someone who had never heard it before, I must say that this was incredibly beautiful, and I'm very impressed.
FFIX was Uematsu's masterpiece IMO. It was a culmination of all of his experience and talent. It is some of the most profound music in the series and the entire soundtrack, which is massive, is tied together by themes that you can pick out all throughout the game.
It's like a classical concerto with many movements that all share a similar theme. There may be some better tracks in the other games but there isn't one complete soundtrack that is so well rounded.
I believe Uematsu said it's his favorite work.
That's a really nice and interesting thought. But now please do yourself a favor and play that game!
@@BlackWingGenesis I think Uematsu's favorite is VI, but I still find that IX was the underrated pinnacle of the series in its classic formula.
