He even broke the national record with a wounded leg . His competitors were jealous of him and they stabbed spikes in his leg. It could have been a permanent injury but he still willed to run and who knew that he may break the national record .
Milkha Singh's record in 1960 was actually broken in 1998. He still continues to inspire Indians. RIP

He is true legend 🇮🇳
Milkha Singh is most infamously known for an Olympic race where he was pegged to win, but at the moment of the final sprint he turned around to look back, resulting in him not winning the race.
This movie draws a comparison between this race and when as a kid, during the partition, his family had to flee Pakistan Punjab to reach Indian Punjab.
And during that escape his parents and family were slaughtered.
So the comparison here is that his mother was shouting out to Milkha "BHAG" (Run) while the rest of the family was being killed and the race. The movie tries to present Milkha's though process, that while running in that race he was brought back to that same mental state of mind when he was escaping the raiders slaughtering his family, and he had to turn back to see them.
dude that part isnt true because during that olympic race he ran faster than the indian national record but still didnt win. that scene was just filmy af.

Alright, Milkha Singh's story started during the India-Pakistan partition. He was a little boy in Pakistan then and had to escape to India (because he is Sikh, not Muslim) while he lost most of his family. He spent a major part of his life in refugee camps and learnt to steal to survive. Fast forwarding to the future, he has joined the Indian Army and learns that he likes running. That scene where you think he was"told" to run, that was in the room of a fellow competitor, trying on HIS India blazer. He is slapped because he had to earn it. He is asked to go to Pakistan for a friendly game, but finds it difficult because that was home, but also the place his family was murdered. That's just the background. Watch the movie! It's long, but quite inspirational.

His life wasn't threatened, it was because he was running in Pakistan against the Flying bird of Asia Abdul Khaliq, and if he lost Indians will never forgive him, but he had to because he was born on the Pakistani side in Muzaffargarh where his family was slaughtered, and he had a point to make. So it may have been his last run if he had lost. He won and President Ayub Khan gave him the title of The Flying Sikh.
Pakistan didn't even exist when he was born .. so my friend he was born in India and always be a Indian.
Ironically, The legend Milkha Singh died recently in 2021.

He is such a kind man, he is 90 years rn. When i saw the movie it motivated my to be an athelete, i was in 1st grade at that time, my eyes started sparkling . I went to his house as my aunt knows him personally, the meeting was on 28 August 2013 , i still has his autograph. I have heard his interview where he was upset that since more than 40 years, i haven't seen another milkha singh till now.
I am practicing for that moment.

this movie is sick! I actually watched it when I was on my trip to my state level athletic meet. and my event was the same as him...400m and you have no idea how much this movie inspired me. I mean seeing the trailer I would have never watched the movie cuz I'm not usually into such kinda movies..but I was on the bus with all my friends..(co athletes) and our sir put it on the TV and watched it. I literally was crying! watching this movie. soo inspirational!

The most emotional scene was when young Milkha came back home and found that his entire family had been killed and piled up in their backward.

Milkha Singh had a phobia of pakistan. His family originally hailed from pak but during separation of countries in 1947 communal war broke out. He ran ("bhaaga") for his life, as he turned back to look, he saw his family being butchered by swordsmen on horsebacks. He was just a child, age less than 10. He grew up to be an excellent runner & represented India in international competitions. But his phobia never left. He could still feel shadows of those swordsmen on horsebacks coming for him.....
It is the only movie I have watched twice in a theatre! The best biography ever made in India!

This movie touched me so much. I cried watching the movie. Cz i can relate what it is to struggle with ur dreams. Though our story is not same but the thing that he might had felt while going for his dreams. I feel it now.

i am a pakistani, and i am deeply sad at milkha g s story, partition ruined both sikhs and muslims, only punjab did bleed, there was no fault of milkha g s family as there was no fault of many muslims who died., there are millions of conclusions, but no single can be said guilty., The knowledge the education that is the power which was absent then and we both acted brutally and killed but our ownselves..... 💔💔💔 i pray that may sense prevail and we are able to accept our mistakes and be sensible from now on as we are one.
The sad thing is after this legend we haven't had any great track athlete 😩 lots of love, respect and nostalgia for Milkha Singh the flying Sikh 😊

Actually .... his struggle from childhood made him run and he is very poor and he joins army ..... where he finds out that running can bring him great food and he first runs for just a glass of milk .... then seeing his capabilities his captain selects and train him for the race...... he never gets his love....... its a movie that inspired a lot of us......

I'm writing this comment so late but I couldn't help it,moumita absolutely ruined it for these foreigners making the story sound so blank and purposeless,not even touching the partition thing which was the most important part of that story. Also the part where the lady goes like"okay so he's like the underdog" well no he's not,he's the favorite but that race isn't just with his opponent,it's so much more,it reflects the past from which he's running and just can't help but look back his loving family being murdered brutally, that's why he said he won't be able to run it Pakistan
PS- sorry for such a long comment,I really tried to keep it as short as I possibly could,but it's absolutely unfair that she so inaccurately described the movie which is a great man's hard and inspiring journey of life,I really suggest you all to watch this movie as it is a classic portraying so many aspects of human life from funny to emotional covering the happy moments of life as well as tragic,it's truly one of a kind movie
