I really dig the sound and functionality or this, just wish it was more knob per function, less menu control but otherwise seems fantastic for those ok with that! I may have to get one and deal with it as it sounds just great!
On the surface, many would probably agree that they too would prefer to have a knob dedicated for each parameter. And that does work well for rather simple synthesizers. But for the Vectra this would mean you need a panel with nearly 250 controls. With too many controls, you would spend all your time searching the front panel for the right control you need to adjust. And keep in mind most humans I know only have two hands and can adjust no more than 2 knobs at any given time, but to do even that means you have no more hands to actually play the keyboard at the same time. The Vectra interface is different than most synthesizers, and is designed that way to give you more flexibility than other synthesizers. Most synth parameters are one button press away, you simply need to select the parameter page to edit before adjusting a value. But in addition, those 8 encoders can be assigned to any sound parameter in the ASSIGN mode, so all the most relevant parameters for a sound are instantly available. The ASSIGN mode also displays what parameters are assigned to those knobs so it's easy to remember what each custom assigned knob does. In addition, many don't realize that those four joysticks are the equivalent to 10 potentiometers on a normal synthesizer. For instance the Mixer joystick allows you to control the level of all four oscillators with one finger. Or that the Filter joystick controls both the cutoff and resonance. It's so musical (and fast) to be able to adjust those two parameters with one finger, while you are actually playing the keyboard. And that is something you simply can not do with a traditional synthesizers, unless you intend to play the keys with your toes. I've been playing the Vectra for months now and can honestly say, nothing else in the studio is this fun to use, fast, and expressive.
