I've rewatched this several times to get this engraved into my brain and 3:19 gets me every time. Lmao. This is seriously the most helpful video for me. Back in the day on UA-cam there weren't that many skate channels that were as good as yours, thanks for making such great content for skaters. Appreciate it. :)
Thank you for the words of encouragement! We have always believed in teaching anybody and everyone what we have learned over our years of playing skateboards. We are very pleased that you found our videos helpful and we would love to hear any suggestions you may have for future videos!
I feel like this is too aggressive for me. when I'm longboarding, I like to cruise and go with the flow. if I did this, I wouldn't enjoy the "freedom" of it. but that's just me
They over exaggerated it because flexible board. When you turn on toe side, try pushing down on front foot ball of foot, when turn on heel side, push down on back heel a little bit while front foot is used as pivot point. If that makes kinda makes sense. It's basically pre carving before slide while downhill freeride. It does take very much effort, fun once figured out. It's hard carving where the power loaded into the carve will transfer into momentum.
I guaranteed if you learned how to do you wouldn’t feel like it’s too aggressive. It’s just another skill that locks you into the groove with your board. It’s fun. You will not regret learning how to do it
I’m learning to ride switch right now and trying to relearn how to pump. It’s so awkward but I can’t wait to feel as comfortable switch as I do regular
Also if you have a friend with a Carver or another surf training board just hop on that and try it. It's a lot easier and after a bit of practice on that you can get a feel for doing it on other types of boards
Still trying to pick up speed while pumping this board setup. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. It would be great if more / longer explanation is provided.
How to pump 101. Step one: buy a decent pumper, no symmetrical twin tip shit. If you are on budget, you chop the nose of a vanguard and put your fronttruck underneath your front foot. If you own a droptrough board, chop it into a platform (like the loaded phantom prototype) and buy some brackets. Step two: buy a bennett vector 5" truck to put in front. Step three: buy a tracker rts or randal 125mm truck. Step four: play around with some bushing combo's and wedging/dewedging your trucks. Step 5: enjoy the ride! To gain and maintain speed, you should force your fronttruck in it's turn. (Remember how you could propel yourself on rollerskates by pushing your legs to the sides while staying in contact with the ground? Well that is the science of pumping) . You could use your bodyweight to gain some extra momentum as shown in the video.
What model of boards do you use please? At home in the store I only find pintails that are curved like this but I would love to have a board like yours
Dude, symmetrical boards with this much flex and wide 180mm trucks suck. Yes they are pumpable, but no way they reach the same efficiency and top speed as a proper bracket setup or topmount pumper with proper trucks! Although I know a few people who chopped the nose of their vanguard and have put a proper truck underneath their front foot.
You can do either. Typically, having you back foot on the tail allows you to pump deeper at slower speeds, but it pretty unstable at higher speeds. IF you keep your feet within the trucks, it is the opposite effect. You also could start pumping with your foot on the tail to build up some speed and then transition to feet in between the trucks to maintain a higher speed.
In the video you guys are talking about flexi boards; is this possible to do with a board that isn't a flexi board? Mine I believe is just maple and not flexible at all
Can you pump with a drop-thru mount? I ride a flex 3 Tantien on bear grizzlies and 86a fat frees. been trying to teach myself to pump but I feel like my setup is limiting me. I have a set of 77a Kegels and shock pads on the way as well so I can try pumping with soft wheels on a top mount.
I second this, especially if your board is barely pump able with high effort half the time anyways. Even if the road is barely wet enough to be slightly darker in a spot, you can quite easily slide out on a bigger swing
I try this with my loaded tarab flex 2 it is really fun but in a steep carve the edge of the deck scrapes the ground a bit is this something to worry about?
I just bought a Subsonic Pulse 40 board. It's a long distance pumping board. I've been riding longboard for a while and now would like to get more into long distance push/pumping. I got Paris 180mm 50 degree trucks, Otang 83a 72mm wheels and Zealous bearings. Should I get some wedges for my risers? If so, what degree? Should I get some 42 degree baseplates to get my board (my board is a topmount) lower or will the 50 degree be fine? I will experiment for myself of course, but thought I'd ask for some expert advise. Thanks!
You can definitely use some wedge risers to adjust the angles of your trucks to better suit your style of skating. a 42 degree baseplate in the back, and a 50 degree baseplate up front will create a very solid downhill setup, as well as an effective pumping setup (depending on your bushings). You could grab a new baseplate, but to save money, wedge risers will do just fine, as well as add a bit of dampening to your ride. Try heavily de-wedging the back trucks, while wedging up the front truck a bit. Getting a severely split angle setup will give you an absolute pumping machine! We do no suggest wedging your front truck beyond 55 degrees. Make sure to get some squishy and soft bushings too!
Hello Seth, angled risers would help a lot. Get your front truck on a higher degree angle and your back truck on a lower degree angle, that way you get more turn from the front and less on the back and that helps drive the pump. I don't have the Subsonic pulse but I ride the Century and my setup is a 0 degree angle truck on the back and about a 60 degree in the front. Also keep your bushings soft enough so you can properly use the full turn of the angles. Hope that helped, hope to see you on some long distance events.
y’all have other boards that can pump, not just flexy boards - I’m think the Poke, Omakase, maybe Coyote? do you still recommend this same pumping style on stiffer or shorter boards?
Loosen up your trucks a bit, but not to the point of wheelbite. If you board has a pretty short wheelbase (under 24 inches) then pumping won't be too hard at lower speeds. If the wheelbase is significantly longer than 24 inches, then push until about jogging speed and you should be able to start pumping and accelerating. The motion will mostly come from you kicking and pulling your legs. When turning heelside, your front foot will pull towards the heelside edge, while your back foot will push towards the toeside edge. Then vice versa for turning toeside. These movements are subtle and over exerting isn't necessary. Rather, try and focus on finding a rhythm between turning toeside and heelside with these alternating movements.
what confused me: - this is not the (only) way to pump on a long distance pumping setup (think gbomb bracket setup where your back trucks barely turn). doing a horizontal only wiggle totally works on a dedicated LDP setup at certain speeds, and the technique in this video is a bit energy inefficient in comparison to your other options on an LDP setup this video is absolutely the correct thing to do on an Icarus, Vanguard, etc - a flexy board whose deck is strictly above the wheels (no drop) for a stiffer board, like a carver (surfskate) or slalom setup, maybe this works in a modified way - pushing away from your body with your legs does seem to add power, but I’m not good enough at it to figure it out competely.
Yes indeed! There is tons of information out there on how to setup a stiff pumping board! Check out PavedWave.org for some super technical info on how to setup a stiff pumping board. The website is definitely a bit dated, but the information is still very useful today! I appriciate the pumping iron documentary in the backround while you teach pumping lol

I feel like this is too aggressive for me. when I'm longboarding, I like to cruise and go with the flow. if I did this, I wouldn't enjoy the "freedom" of it. but that's just me
We hear you, pumping isn't for everyone, especially when enjoying the feel of the road is the main goal.

any plans from Loaded to play around with the LDP scene? might be fun to mix with dancing moves
based on the toxicity i see in other comments from ldp folks, probably not :(
What is the song called during the "radical skateboard" called??
In the video you guys are talking about flexi boards; is this possible to do with a board that isn't a flexi board? Mine I believe is just maple and not flexible at all
So the longboard can take this then. For how long if you pump often? Does it decrease the life span of your board if you pump?
How deck will be the best for long distance pushing, pumping and carving in the city?
Hey guys there’s so many wheels and I’m relatively new. Would be amazing if you could recommend what my next set of wheels should be.
Depends on what your intentions are, for longboarding, bigger/softer wheels are better. For skateboarding smaller/harder wheels are better
Will this not work on my stiff 38 ? Ill try tomorrow
What trucks are best for pumping?

to carve like this do you need to have really loose trucks?
Don’t pump on wet roads. I learned that lesson tonight on my commute home (it’s not the first time it’s happened, just too fun to resist)

It’s a great way to mitigate lens scratches
Does your board have to be flexy? Because mine... isn't. At all.
I have a pintail longboard so would that make pumping difficult to do?
Hot take: the longboard scooter isn't _that_ bad of an idea.
I feel like I'm watching a tv show 😂 😂
Keep up the great work!
And make a video about downhill setups and freeride setups so people can understand the difference
Abel luque Great idea!!! Thanks!
can you pump with the bassalt tesseract? I heard that it has some flex

How do you go faster on your longboard cuz I push with all my power but it slows down every 5 seconds.
I try this with my loaded tarab flex 2 it is really fun but in a steep carve the edge of the deck scrapes the ground a bit is this something to worry about?
