  • In this episode, I interview LJ Luciano, the owner and operator of ATX Beach, the largest beach volleyball facility in Austin, Texas. We discuss LJ's journey into volleyball, the growth of the Sand Wannabes Facebook group, and the challenges of starting a beach volleyball venue.
LJ shares his experience in raising money through crowdfunding and emphasizes the importance of having a site before seeking investors. We also discuss the significance of building a comprehensive business plan and understanding the costs involved in running a facility.
I highlight the importance of alcohol sales in a bar with a volleyball setup and the challenges of running a restaurant alongside a volleyball venue. We talk about the need for a solid business plan, understanding the competitive landscape, and adapting to different revenue streams. We also touch on income streams in the beach volleyball industry, including leagues, tournaments, private events, and merchandise sales. 🌟

It must be hard to build a real community in a sport like Beach Volleyball because it is much more a coexistence of many small friends circles and groups that usually only interact when they play on the same level. I barely see the best players in my local BV place interact with the people from lower levels with few exceptions where these people belong to their social circle.
I would call it "performance level communitys". B players interact with other B players and AA players usually only interact with A, AA or above. Why would they play with the Bs or below (except the B player is an attrractive female.. ;) )
That's my observation here in Berlin / Germany.

Hi there, I have a problem, I find it very hard to set a ball when it's coming from high above me (talking about hand setting) the ball comes with such a high speed, making it very hard to get the ball in the exact place, and even if so then completing the movement. although I do use my wrists I feel like it's slamming on me hands to hard when it's coming from 5M or above. It's completely different from when it's 4 m or below. I'd like to have some tips please, thanks you
