I use dawn only when I’m getting ready to do a full buff/polish/wax job at the beginning of each season, then use a boat soap from star-brite for general cleaning after that. Dawn is great for stripping off old wax and other oils and junk for a fresh start
100% correct way to use dawn!
I love the 303 products. The marine aerospace protectant does great on the vinyl, makes it easy to keep clean.
I also use the quick wax and speed detailer. I also use their multi surface cleaner. It’s pretty mild. Works great on the vinyl when you need something a little stronger. For spot removal I’ll use the multi surface cleaner with a leather cleaning brush. But you have to put protectant on the vinyl immediately after.
Most of the new “chill touch” vinyl comes with a manufacture note to use 30/1 water to dawn dish soap tp clean the vinyl. Then rinse with water. They say other soaps can strip away the cooling features of the product. Just relaying what I just found out this season

The soap works well for flushing out an engine.
The problem with all the “boat soaps” is they simply don’t clean hard to clean spots.
Exactly, starbrite is trash. Don't know any that are good
You can break out the harsher products on the tough areas as needed, just be cautious of using them as your primary every wash soaps... and re-wax/protect as needed
@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon as it is I mostly simply rinse down with water, water works just as good as any of these “boat washes”. If it’s really dirty I use some very diluted Dawn dish soap. That actually cleans. I haven’t seen a hint of a problem with my finish in years.
I don't use Dawn to clean the boat, but I do use it sometimes to flush out the engine. It has the same active ingredient as salt away. My boat is ceramic coated, so Dawn shouldn't affect it. What are people using for getting rust stains out?

Captain Matt, what do you reccomend for Pontoon boat fencing that's hazing and has lost it's shine? My guy at Cabelas actually told me to use Dawn dish soap😂

What brand of boat?
Where are you located?
Where/how is it stored (in sun, salt water, covered, indoors)
Could the hazing be oxidation build up?

I don’t think any of this info is accurate! Dawn soap will not remove gelcoat or damage it
No, Dawn does not remove the gel coat… It removes the wax protectant layer, and the sun damages the gel coat.
