@@Techformative557 yup. kinda like the tech lottery, at least the chances beat the actual lottery, and it's more fun as well. 😆 at least you get a nice bit of art for the shelf if it is dead though
It’s because of the hbm2 Vram is different from GDDR. High delay for small or switching files. But excels at bigger files = higher resolution. Has 1tb vram bandwidth per second absolutely shreds DDR. Which also made it great at mining.
I picked a vii up when it was new i like collecting gpu and i fill it will be kind of rare in the coming years because of its short shelf life. Its a fun card to tinker with, you can fix most of its problems with a good undervolt. I actually love the build quality and the way the card looks i like the all metal design. I also have a 2080 and 5700xt in my collection and the vii is on par with these gpu’s and pulls ahead of the xt at higher resolutions. My main gaming gpu’s now are a 3080ti and 4090 but want to get a red devil or nitro 7900xtx early next year. Im hoping they might drop the prices by a little by then I just wanna play around with the new architecture. But its crazy what the vii was selling for 1-2 years ago I almost sold mine but i never get rid of anything i might be a hardware hoarder.🤔 Its just an interesting cars first to 7nm and having 16gb’s of hbm2 memory
if im not mistaken the 2080 performs worse at 4k because of a vram bootleneck which means that the game is taking up all of the vram, the 2080 has 8gb while the radeon 7 has 16gb and since most games dont use 16gb of vram even at 4k it out performs it :D great vid btw
Ohhh I see, makes sense. And also it maybe abit better now cause AMD cards age better in many ways. I dont have a 2080 to compare. Speaking of bottlenecks, gotta build a new pc to make full use of this card cause the old 4770k isn't gonna cut it anymore haha
i dont think they made more because this is the radeon instinct mi50 that was failed as a server card i think instead of scraping them they wanted to make money for them as a high end gaming card
Damn I never knew about the Mi50..just googled it and holy shit there was one pic of the die on TomsHardware for a company called Sugon, looked exactly the same :o
Good card, I got one myself and I've been using it daily since I got it (March 2019). The only issue I've ever had with it was ultimately a windows issue. I've been using it for gaming and some image editing, big guy still works like a dream.
Good video. Shame the VII was so problematic for owners and how AMD left those that purchased out to dry. After 3 years mine has failed. Card powers up, fans spin but PC, no boot, not able to get into BIOS, no display. MB debug led remains lit. Off to the scrap heap it goes or maybe to EBAY for parts.
But you think people are stupid.. you dont show anything how you fix the board.. the card was broken and you clean it do a simple reflow and fix a screw and the card miraculously works...You think a pair of blue gloves is all it takes to make it look like you're fixing something. This is scam video.
If you know anything about graphics card repair, you'd know that literally the first thing you do when a card won't post is reflow the main chip, if that doesn't work you go onto other things. I just got lucky on the first try.
@@Techformative557 found a cheap one seller says that it shows up in device manager when booted up with integrated gpu, shows bios screen but fails when loading windows. also spins fans and such. could it just be broken port, bad cable or corrupted bios?
You inspired me to look for a cheap Radeon vii. Picked one up for $70. It was ‘broken’ I just cleaned it and it worked!
wow, that's one heck of a deal for one heck of a card. congrats on finding such an amazing deal!
Indeed..it was a huge risk tho, I also bought a GTX 970 for $16 and its dead as a rock..its always 50/50

Yep definitely..after the Crypto crash i've been actually looking for ultra cheap unrepairable stuff for the collection haha
Yeah $16 is worth it

I find these types of videos really relaxing please do more
For sure! More on the way!
Praise the fact that miners lost money from the crypto crash ~
More cheap components for us!

This card in the future will probably be very very rare only 5000 were made
Wait I thought the 5000 unit thing was only at launch? didn't they make more later?

You can't put that kind of music in your video and expect people to subscribe to your channel. Omfg this music.
A collectors piece :3
I've been told this thing is still highly sought after for the floating point calculation stuff

What do you guys think of this repair video? Do you own an AMD Radeon VII?
Let me know down below!

Many of those broke because of BS cyto miners and gamer who don't know how to use that card. It a must UNDERVOLT. 115C will cook that card.
280 ? taking apart portion ??? you mean the 2080 , and the disassembly ?
Damn that poor card was tortured
Yeah am actually still having trouble wrapping my head around this cards history
Great video! Quick question, what's the specs of your machine?
4770k, 16gb ram, 6tb storage..the processor bottles this thing badly but am collecting for a new pc soon
Just bought one for $82. Heres to hoping it still works!
The person that sold you this card has no business ever buying/owning a GPU ever again.
lol, look like someone use that gpu as weapon.... that gpu had alluminum shroud...it is very hard to crack that alliminum 😆
samsung memory or hynix? if samsung you got gold for dirt cheap
