I suffer from MDD, at 70% VA rated disability. I’ve been complaining about my symptoms and work related incidents. My attendance has changed drastically. I’m at the point where I can no longer relax, concentrate, and perform my duties. I have an FMLA case for some of my disabilities. From your experiences do you think I have a strong case ? With proven medical evidence as well as decline work performance, attendance and relations?
It sounds like you could have a case for Federal Disability Retirement! You must be unable to perform at least one of your current job duties and have a service deficiency, which it sounds like you do. We would love to learn more about your case, give us a call at 877-226-2723 for a consultation.
I have been in treatment for depression and anxiety since before 2002 when i became employed with DODea.I have been a Fers since 2002 with worsening symptoms due to stress and on meds for many years. I will be 62 this April. Any advice?
At age 62 you should be able to qualify for a regular retirement from the government. At this stage, Federal Disability Retirement may not be worth the stress of applying unless you have been out of work due to your medical condition and qualify for backpay. Your FERS retirement package will provide you with an annuity, your TSP, and social security benefits, which will support you through retirement.
Your provider does not have to be a medical doctor, but they do have to be licensed in their specialty. Therapists, psychiatrists, neurologists, physicians’ assistants, etc. could all provide statements to support your Federal Disability Retirement case!
Yes! You can use VA medical documentation as supportive documentation for your Federal Disability Retirement case! Having a VA Disability rating can help support your case along with supportive medical professionals, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
Great question! You can be approved for both SSDI and Federal Disability Retirement, but there will be an offset. If approved for both, SSDI will become your primary benefit, and your Federal Disability Retirement annuity will be reduced by 100% of your SSDI benefit for the first year and 60% of your SSDI benefit every year after.
@@DisabilityRetirementwhen you say your federal annuity will be reduced by 100%. I’m taking that as the person receiving both ssdi and federal disability. Will NOT receive federal disability at all. Am I right ?
@@Linxs718 The first year you will receive your full SSDI benefit plus your Federal Disability Retirement minus your full SSDI benefit. So it's SSDI+(FDR-SSDI). This can definitely be confusing, but you will end up receiving more money than with one benefit alone.

Does this pertain to DODEA employees?
If you are a FERS career employee with at least 18 months of creditable service, you could qualify for this benefit with a mental health condition.
