Funny....well, write and sing one about a forgotten Clydesdale. My newest, Pete, was looking for a buddy when he found me. And now he has found his home...for good.
Pete is one of the very lucky ones then! I do have a song with a verse about Clydesdales; it's called Heavy Horse Song" and it's also on my HoofBeats CD (12 horse songs including the ones you've heard here), but I haven't had time to do a video of it. I'd also love to write more songs about horses -- but again, it's a matter of finding the time!
Hi! do not know how I got here, was looking for the story of the beginnings of the myth of why chestnut mares are regarded as fierce and ornery and happened upon your song. I am not a country music listener usually, nor do I go out of my way about horses generally. Honestly I LOVED your song! I was glad it was not the Byrd's cover but instead a lovely spirited song with heartfelt lyrics thank you for making my day! I wish you every success in life and family!
Thank you for your lovely comments! Not sure where the myth began either, and I have certainly known some chestnut mares that did not fit the myth, though the one I wrote the song about actually did. :-)
I love your song! I have a chestnut Oldenburg mare; she is such a diva that this song could have been written about her. She does wonderful 2nd/3rd level dressage ... when she isn't busy being... dramatic. Thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you made a video :) I downloaded the song last summer from your website because it suited my TB Chestnut Mare to a T. She's in my profile photo ;) Best wishes with your pretty girl
Not sure if I responded to this or not, but I am still working away at the HoofBeats CD- waiting for a singer friend to find time to do harmonies on a couple of tunes; other than that we are almost there!
Thanks MadMareStudio! Note there are two versions of the lyrics. (This is the original version. In the second version, I cut one verse and rewrote another.)
Glad you like the song! The HoofBeats CD isn't out yet...still finishing up recording, then have to design the CD cover etc. Also have to work to raise the funds to pay as I go. Fans can help by ordering in advance, you can go to my website for details and to read about the other horse songs - but no obligation of course. :)
Susan 10093, thanks for the comment! Glad you like the song. Now I do know a couple of chestnut mares who aren't like this, but at my old barn, we had THREE chestnut divas, lol! (Note BTW I took out the verse about God for my HoofBeats CD version of this song so as not to unintentionally offend anyone religious...)
Oh, she sounds like she fits the song perfectly! Penny, the mare that inspired this song (and Toots, the Arabian mare too) are also sweet - when not being naughty!
NZ! Well isn't that just the coolest thing about UA-cam and Facebook etc - finding things in common with people halfway around the world. :) Give your naughty chestnut mare a big pat from me!
Can you go to my website, then click on Connect in the column on the left side and you'll see where to send email there. But I have a feeling UA-cam isn't allowing the website URL to show up. So google my name, Marie-Lynn Hammond, and you should find my site pretty quick. :)
Cool! If you like, you can email me through my website a decent size version of your profile photo (or any other photo of your mare) and your name I'll re-edit the video to include her -- I decided not to "steal" images off the Net but only use photos I'd taken or had permission to use, so I can always use more pics!
what a wonderful song I love all of your song!
this reminds me of my chestnut mare flora 😉
Thanks so much! I love writing songs about horses. :)
That's just a mare......gotta love 'em! Sounds like my Annie! Perfect song, thanks!!!
Ha! I just replied to another comment of yours and mentioned this song -- I see you've found it already! :D

Keep it up. Your equine songs are delightful....and capture how we horse-lovers really feel about them. Thank you.

If you saw his eyes, you'd have no choice! But I get it....time (sigh)

Beautiful song and video!
GREAT SONG!
Thanks, Diana! I have more horse songs from my 'HoofBeats' CD on UA-cam and at least one on SoundCloud. :)
Really i used to have six of them not all at once though I miss them so much used to ride every day after school.

What a lovely song and voice! Thank you so much for having the lyrics on your web site.

Love it!!! Happen to own a chestnut mare ;-) Has your Hoofbeats CD been released yet?

No worries! Whenever you can do it is fine. :)
No kidding! Is the Penny you know north of Toronto and about 18 yrs old by any chance?
@kelly888ize Is she a naughty little horse like the one in my song?! because I do know they aren't all like that. :)
